Why you should connect Xiaomi to your TV and what you need to do
Xiaomiβs current smartphones (including the Redmi, POCO and Mi line) are able to stream a screen onto a big TV screen, which opens up a lot of possibilities. You can show photos from a family holiday, play mobile games on a 55-inch display, or even use TV as a second monitor to work with. But how do you do it right so that there are no image delays or connection problems?
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways of connecting (wireless and wired), their pros/cons, as well as typical errors that interfere with synchronization. You do not need expensive adapters - most methods work with standard cables or through built-in MIUI functions. The main thing is to know the nuances of settings for your TV model (Samsung, LG, Sony Bravia or Xiaomi TV) and smartphone.
Before you start, check:
- π TV compatibility: TVs should have a port HDMI (for wired connection) or support Miracast/Wi-Fi Direct (for wireless).
- π± Version. MIUI: smartphone-based MIUI 12+ Advanced broadcast settings are available. Update the software through Settings β The phone. β Updating the system.
- πΆ Wi-Fi network: for stable broadcast without lags, the router must support the standard 802.11ac (5 GHz).
If your TV is released before 2015, you may need an external adapter (such as the Xiaomi Mi TV Stick or Google Chromecast).
Method 1: Wireless streaming via Miracast (without router)
Miracast is a wireless image standard that works without an internet connection, built into most Xiaomi smartphones (starting with the Redmi Note 3) and TVs with Android TV or Smart TV (2016 and later), with the main advantage of minimal latency (up to 50 ms), which is critical for gaming and video.
How to turn Miracast on Xiaomi:
- Open Settings β Connection and Sharing β Broadcast (on some models, the path: Settings β Screen β Wireless display).
- Activate the Wireless Display slider.
- In the list of available devices, select the name of your TV (such as Samsung UE55 or Xiaomi TV 4S).
- Confirm the connection on both devices (TV may need input) PIN-code).
If the TV is not on the list:
- π Reboot both devices.
- π‘ Make sure your TV is on Screen Mirroring (Settings menu) β Network β Miracast or Screen β Screen duplication).
- π οΈ Update the TV firmware (relevant to the LG WebOS and Samsung Tizen).
Enable Wi-Fi on your smartphone|Activate Screen Mirroring on TV|Make sure that the devices are at a distance of up to 5 meters|Shut down. VPN on the phone (can block the connection)-->
Miracast's limitations:
- β οΈ Does not work with iPhone and some older TVs (until 2014).
- β οΈ There may be a lag when watching videos in 4K (permit β 1080p).
- β οΈ The sound is transmitted only through the speakers of the TV (on the smartphone there will be silence).
What if Miracast is permanently shut down?
Method 2: Connecting through HDMI-cable)
Wired HDMI provides maximum picture quality (up to 4K@60Hz) and minimal latency, ideal for gamers, video editors or presentations, but you will need an adapter, as modern Xiaomi smartphones do not have an HDMI port.
What you need:
- π adapter USB-C β HDMI (For USB Type C models, for example, Xiaomi 12T, Redmi Note 11 Pro+).
- π Micro-USB adapter β HDMI (For older models, for example, Redmi 5).
- πΊ Cable HDMI 2.0 (for support) 4K).
Step-by-step:
- Connect the adapter to your smartphone and then connect it to your TV with an HDMI cable.
- On the TV, select the signal source β port HDMI, to which the cable is connected (for example, HDMI 1 or HDMI 2/ARC).
- The smartphone will display a notification about the connection to the external display. Select the display mode: Duplicate the screen is the same picture on the phone and TV. Expand the screen - TV becomes a second monitor (useful for multitasking).

If the TV image is cropped at the edges, go to the TV screen settings β Image mode and select Just Scan or 1:1.
| adapter | Compatible Xiaomi models | Max, permission. | Price (2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baseus USB-C to HDMI | Xiaomi 13/12/11 series, POCO F4/F5, Redmi Note 12 | 4K@60Hz | 800 β½ |
| UGREEN Micro-USB to HDMI | Redmi 9/8/7 series, POCO X3 | 1080p@60Hz | 600 β½ |
| Xiaomi Mi USB-C to HDMI (official) | All models with USB-C | 4K@30Hz | from 1,200 β½ |
β οΈ Note: Some adapters require additional power through USB. If the image flickers or disappears, connect the adapter to the charger.
Method 3: Broadcast via Wi-Fi Direct (for older TVs)
Wi-Fi Direct is an alternative to Miracast for TVs that do not support wireless screen duplication, a method that works on most Samsung (2013-2017), LG (with WebOS 2.0) and some Philips. The main drawback is a delay of up to 200 ms, making it unsuitable for gaming.
How to set up:
- On the TV, activate Wi-Fi Direct in the Settings menu β Network β Wi-Fi Direct.
- On the Xiaomi smartphone, open Settings β Wi-Fi β Additional β Wi-Fi Direct.
- Select the TV from the list and confirm the pairing (may be required) PIN-code, usually 0000 or 1234).
- After connecting, start the broadcast through Settings β Connection and Sharing β Broadcast.
How to connect Mi TV Stick:
- Insert the console into the HDMI port of the TV and connect it to power via USB (use the original power supply!).
- Switch the TV to the HDMI source corresponding to the console port.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for setting up Wi-Fi and logging into your Xiaomi account.
- On your smartphone, open the Mi Home or Google Home app, find the console and choose Translate screen.
Advantages of consoles:
- β They are also used on older TVs (since 2010).
- β Support streaming services (Netflix, YouTube, Kinion) without a smartphone.
- β Less lag compared to Wi-Fi Direct.
β οΈ Note: When using Chromecast on Xiaomi, you may need to disable the feature MIUI Optimization in the Developer Settings (Settings) β The phone. β Version. MIUI β Tap 7 times, then additionally β For developers β MIUI Optimization).
Method 5: Connecting via DLNA (for media files)
DLNA is a protocol for transmitting media files (photos, videos, music) over a local network, which does not duplicate the screen, but allows you to view content from a smartphone on a TV without wires.
- π¬ Viewing movies and TV series.
- π· Photo demonstrations.
- π΅ Playing music through TV speakers.
How to set up DLNA:
- Make sure your smartphone and TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- On your TV, activate DLNA in Settings β Network β Home Network (on Samsung it can be called AllShare, on LG it can be called SmartShare).
- On a Xiaomi smartphone, open the Gallery or Music app, select a file and tap Share β DLNA (or Translate).
- Select the TV from the list of devices.
Challenges and solutions:
- π« Files not displayed: Check the video format (DLNA supportive MP4, MKV, JPEG, not MOV or HEIC).
- π No sound: Some TVs need to manually select the audio track in the playback menu.
- π‘ Slow loading: Move files to a memory card β read faster from it than from internal memory.
π‘
For convenience, use the BubbleUPnP app (available on Google Play), which lets you create playlists and control playback from your phone.
