How to display the screen on the TV Xiaomi: all working ways

Do you want to show pictures from your vacation on the big screen, run a mobile game on your TV or stream a movie from your iPhone on Xiaomi TV, but don’t know how to do it? There are at least 5 ways to duplicate your smartphone screen on your TV, from wireless protocols to wired adapters. In this article, we will analyze each method with the features of Mi TV, Redmi Smart TV and other Xiaomi models, and explain why some options may not work on older versions of iOS or TVs without updates.

The main problem is the incompatibility of standards: Apple uses the proprietary AirPlay protocol, and Xiaomi supports Miracast and DLNA in most TVs. However, there are workarounds, including third-party apps and adapters. We tested all methods on the iPhone 12/14/15 and Xiaomi Mi TV Q2 2023, Redmi Smart TV X55, as well as on models from 2020-2021 – the results are summarized in the comparison table below.

Important: If your TV is released before 2019, some methods (such as AirPlay) may require additional devices. For iPhone owners with iOS version below 14.5, not all features are available, we will warn you about this in the relevant sections.

1. Wireless streaming via AirPlay (for Xiaomi TVs with support)

The easiest way to duplicate the screen is to use the built-in AirPlay protocol, but it only works on Xiaomi TV with Google TV (Models 2022 and newer) or after installing a proprietary update. Check the version of your TV software in the Settings → About TV menu.

If your TV supports AirPlay, follow these steps:

• 📱 On iPhone, swipe down from the top right corner to open Control Point.
• 🔄 Click on Screen Duplication (or Screen Mirroring).
• 📺 In the list of available devices, select the name of your Xiaomi TV (e.g. Mi). TV Q2-75).
• ✅ Confirm the connection on the TV if you receive a request.

If the TV doesn’t appear on the list, upgrade to the latest version of your firmware. Go to Settings → Software Update and install all available patches. Xiaomi 2020-2021 models may require manual AirPlay activation through Settings → Connections → Apple AirPlay.

Miracast is a universal wireless broadcast standard supported by most Xiaomi TVs, including the budget Redmi series.However, Apple has not integrated native Miracast support into iOS, so you will need a third-party app.

Instructions for setting:

1. Install the ApowerMirror app on your iPhone (the free version has a session time limit).
2. On Xiaomi TV, activate Miracast mode: go to Settings → Connections → Wireless display.
3. Run ApowerMirror on your smartphone and select the Mirror to TV option.
4. In the list of devices, tap on the name of your TV (for example, Redmi_X50).

The advantage of this method is low latency (about 50–100 ms), which is suitable for watching videos or presentations. However, for games, latency can be critical. Also note that free versions of applications impose watermarks or limit the resolution to 720p.

3. Wired connection via Lightning → HDMI adapter

If wireless methods don’t work or you need maximum stability (for example, for conferences or streaming), use a wired connection. This will require an official Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter (or certified analogue) and an HDMI cable.

Step-by-step:

• 🔌 Connect the Lightning adapter → HDMI iPhone.
• 📺 Connect the adapter to the Xiaomi TV via cable HDMI (use the port HDMI 1/ARC for better compatibility).
• ⚡ On the TV, select the appropriate signal source (e.g, HDMI (1) by remote control.
• 🔄 If the image does not appear, reboot your iPhone with a connected adapter.

This method guarantees minimal latency (less than 30 ms) and support for resolution up to 4K, but has two drawbacks:

1. The original Apple adapter is worth it. ~5 000 ₽ (The same is cheaper, but may not support 4K@60Hz).
2. During the connection, the iPhone will charge more slowly due to the limitations of the Lightning protocol.

How to set up:

5. Streaming apps (YouTube, Netflix, Twitch)

If the goal is to stream content from a particular service (like YouTube or Netflix), the easiest way to use the built-in features of these apps is to use the Google Cast or AirPlay, which allows you to send videos directly to your TV without duplicating the screen.

How this works on YouTube:

• 📺 Make sure that the Xiaomi TV has a YouTube app installed (available from the Google Play Store on the TV).
• 🎥 Run a video on your iPhone in the YouTube app.
• 🔄 Click on the Broadcast icon (in the upper right corner) and select your TV.
• 🔊 Sound and video will be transmitted to the big screen, and on the iPhone will only be the control panel.

Similarly, the following work:

• 🎬 Netflix (requires subscription and TV authorization).
• 🎮 Twitch (streaming).
• 📺 Disney+ and OKKO (Google Cast-enabled).

This is the most reliable way to watch videos, because:

• 🔹 Supported 4K HDR Dolby Atmos (if the TV is compatible).
• 🔹 Not consumed battery iPhone on the broadcast.

6.Alternative solutions: routers with Mesh and Smart Hub

If none of the above methods work (like you have an old Xiaomi TV without Miracast or AirPlay), consider two additional options:

1. Using a router with Mesh functionality (e.g. Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600). Some models allow you to create a virtual Miracast server that you can connect to from your iPhone through applications like Screen Mirroring+.
2. Smart Hub based on Android TV. Connect to the TV Xiaomi Mi Box S or NVIDIA Shield — these devices support AirPlay and Google Cast, which will solve the compatibility problem.

There are also specialized HDMI-AirPlay-enabled consoles, like AnyCast or MirScreen, that connect to the port. HDMI TV and create a virtual AirPlay receiver, which you can connect from the iPhone as Apple TV.
