Are you tired of the intrusive voice that says "Incoming Call from [Name]" every time you call your Xiaomi? This feature may be useful for people with disabilities, but it only interferes with most users - especially in public places or at night. Fortunately, there are several ways to turn off voice calls on Redmi, POCO or Mi smartphones, and we'll go through each of them in detail.
The problem is that in different versions of MIUI (12 to 14) and Android firmware (10 to 14), the path to settings may differ. Some options are hidden in the special features menu, and some in the settings of the Phone app. We have collected current methods that work on most models, including Redmi Note 10/11/12, POCO X3/X4/X5, Xiaomi 11T/12/13 and others. If the standard methods do not work, do not worry: at the end of this article there are alternative solutions for difficult cases.
Why is Xiaomi’s smartphone making incoming calls?
The voice-based call alert feature was introduced in MIUI as part of a special feature system that was originally designed for users with visual problems to identify the caller without having to look at the screen, but by default, it is often activated even on new devices, which is annoying for many owners.
Here are the main reasons why your Xiaomi might be voicing incoming:
- 🔊 Special features: Voice prompts or Call voice enabled in accessibility settings.
- 📱 Phone app: in some versions MIUI The option is hidden in the settings of the standard call.
- 🤖 Voice Assistant: If you’ve ever activated Google Assistant or XiaoAI, they could have automatically enabled voiceovers.
- 🔄 Update of the firmware: after the update MIUI Some settings are reset to factory settings, including voice notifications.
Interestingly, on some models (e.g. Redmi 9A or POCO M3), this feature can work even if it is disabled in the settings due to firmware bugs, in which cases additional manipulations will be required, which we will discuss below.
Method 1: Disconnection through “Special Opportunities” (most reliable)
This method works on 90% of Xiaomi devices with MIUI 12-14.
- Open the settings (cog icon on the desktop).
- Scroll down and select Special Features (on some models, Additional Features or Universal Access).
- Slip on the section Voice prompts or voice calls.
- Turn off the slider next to the voice incoming calls or voice alert.
- Confirm the action if a pop-up window appears.
On some firmware, the path may be slightly different. For example, on a POCO F3 with MIUI 13, you need to go to Settings → Special Features → Hearing → Call Voice.
☑️ Verification of voice-over disconnection
⚠️ Warning: If the voiceover continues to work after the shutdown, check if the feature is activated in Google Assistant. To do this, say “OK, Google” and ask: “Disable the voiceover of incoming calls».
Method 2: Settings of the Phone application
In some versions of MIUI (especially older models like the Redmi 5 or Mi A2), the voice option is hidden in the standard call settings.
- Open the phone application (pipe icon).
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Settings.
- Scroll down to the Sound and Vibration section or Call Notifications.
- Find the option to voice the name of the caller or Voice Alert and turn it off.
If there is no such item, try another way:
- 🔍 In the phone settings, type in the search “voice” or “voice».
- 📌 The system can give a direct link to the hidden setting.
On the POCO X3 Pro with MIUI 12.5, this option was called Voice Contact Advertising and was located in Phone Settings → Sound and Vibration → Call Voice.
💡
If there is no search bar in your phone settings, install the Google App from the Play Market – it adds global search across the system.
Method 3: Disable via Google Settings (for Android 11+)
On Xiaomi smartphones with pure Android (such as the Mi A3 or POCO X4 NFC in European firmware), voice acting can be controlled via Google services.
- Open Settings → Google → Manage your Google account.
- Go to the Data and Personalization tab.
- Scroll to the Voice Control Settings section.
- Turn off the call notifications option.
If this section is not available, try an alternative path:
- Start Google Assistant (long-term press on the Home button or voice command).
- Slip the profile icon in the upper right corner.
- Select Settings → Phone → Call voice.
- Turn off all associated options.
⚠️ Note: Some devices may stop using voice dialing after Google disables voice dialing. If you need this feature, use Method 1 or Method 2.
Method 4: Reset the settings of the Phone app (if nothing helps)
If the voiceover continues to work despite all attempts to disable it, the problem may be the failure of the settings of the standard call.
- Open Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Find your phone (or contacts) and tap it.
- Select Warehouse. → Clear the data.
- Confirm the action (this will delete the call history!).
- Reboot the phone.
After the reboot, check if the voiceover has disappeared. If so, reset the call (import contacts, favorite numbers, etc.).
| Method | Works for MIUI. | Requires a reboot. | Data resetting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Special facilities | 12–14 | No. | No. |
| Phone settings | 11–13 | No. | No. |
| Google Assistant | 12.5–14 (Android 11+) | Sometimes. | No. |
| Resetting the call | All versions. | Yes. | Yeah (challenge story) |
On Xiaomi models with MediaTek processor (e.g. Redmi) 10C or POCO M5) The reset of the call may result in temporary loss of communication with SIM-In this case, restart the phone or turn on/off flight mode.
Method 5: Use ADB (for advanced users)
If standard methods have failed and voice calls are still active, you can use ADB commands. This method is suitable for users who are ready to work with a computer.
You'll need:
- 🖥️ Computer with Windows/macOS/Linux.
- 🔌 USB-cable (preferably original).
- 🛠️ Installed Xiaomi drivers and platform ADB.
Instructions:
- Turn on the phone to debug by USB (Settings → About Phone → MIUI version – tap 7 times, then go back to Additional settings → For developers).
- Connect the phone to the PC and confirm the debugging permission.
- Open the command line (or Terminal) and type:
adb shell settings put secure tts_enabled_for_calls 0
adb shell settings put secure tts_enabled_for_phone_calls 0- Reboot the phone.
If the commands don’t work, try an alternative:
adb shell pm disable-user com.android.server.telecom/com.android.server.telecom.settings.TtsSettingsActivity⚠️ Attention: Misuse of the right ADB If you are not sure about your actions, you should contact the Xiaomi service center.
What if the ADB does not recognize the device?
Additional advice and possible problems
Even after you turn off the voice calls, you may encounter some nuances. Here's what to do in non-standard situations:
- 🔄 Voiceover returns after update: MIUI Sometimes it resets after the update. Check the settings after each update.
- 📵 Not working on the second. SIM: On some models (for example, Redmi Note 11 Pro) voiceover is controlled separately for each model. SIM-Check the settings for both slots.
- 🎧 Voice in headphones: If the voice is heard only with connected headphones, turn off the option to voice calls in the headset in Bluetooth settings.
- 🔕 Quiet mode doesn't help: Call voiceovers can ignore silent mode.In this case, use Method 5 (ADB).
If you use custom firmware (like LineageOS or Pixel Experience), the path to settings may be different. In such cases, look for the option in the Sound → System Events Voice menu.
💡
On devices with MIUI for Russia (e.g. Redmi 10 2022), the voice calls are disabled by default, and if it suddenly appears, check if someone else (e.g., a child or colleague) has activated it.
