Why Xiaomi Smartphone Is Voiced Incoming Calls and How to Fix It
Voice alerts for incoming calls on Xiaomi are a feature that should help users with disabilities or in situations where it is impossible to look at the screen. However, for most owners of Redmi, POCO or Mi, this feature becomes an annoying factor: the phone loudly announces βIncoming call from [subscriber name]β even in quiet rooms or in meetings. Worse, after MIUI updates, voice settings can be reset or hidden in new menus.
In this article, weβll look at all the ways you can disable voice notifications, from standard MIUI settings to hidden developer settings. Note that on some models (such as the Xiaomi 13T Pro or POCO F5), the path to settings may differ due to the firmware version. If your smartphone runs on naked Android (without the MIUI shell), some methods will not be available, which weβll mention as well.
Before you start settings, check if the feature is activated accidentally through the voice assistant XiaoAI (it often includes alerts after updates). It is also worth remembering that on some firmware for the global version of MIUI (for example, Mi 11 Lite) and the Chinese version (Redmi Note 12 Pro+), the paths in the menu may differ.
Method 1: Disconnection through special features settings
The most obvious and safe method is to use the standard feature menu, which works on most Xiaomi devices with MIUI 12-15 and Android 10-14.
- Open the Settings app (cog icon).
- Go to the Special Opportunities section (sometimes called Universal Access).
- Select Voice Support or TalkBack (if active).
- Turn off the slider next to Voice incoming calls or Voice prompts.
- Confirm the action if a warning appears.
If you donβt have Voice Support on your menu, try an alternative path:
- π Settings β Sound and vibration β Voice control
- π Settings β Additionally. β Special facilities β Rumor
- π± Settings β System system β Advanced settings β Voice.
β οΈ Note: On some firmware (for example, MIUI 14 for Redmi Note 11) Voice alerts can be linked to Google Assistant, in which case it must be disabled separately in the Google app settings.

Method 2: Deactivation through the settings of the βPhoneβ application
In some versions of MIUI, voice alerts are hidden in the settings of the standard Phone app, a method that is especially relevant for owners of POCO X3 Pro, Redmi 9 and other models with Android 11-12 firmware.
To turn off voiceover:
- Open the phone application (pipe icon).
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Settings.
- Go to Incoming Calls or Call Notifications.
- Find the Voice Alert (may be called Voice the subscriberβs name) and turn it off.
If there is no such item, try an alternative path:
- π Phone. β Settings β Additionally. β Voice prompts
- π Phone. β Settings β Sound and vibration β Voice incoming
On some models (such as the Xiaomi 12 Lite), voice tracking can be tied to In-the-Car mode. Check the Bluetooth headset settings if alerts only sound when connected to the car.
Method 3: Disconnecting through Google Assistant settings
If standard methods don't work, the problem may be in Google Assistant, which sometimes takes over voice-overs of incoming calls, especially after Google Play Services updates, to disable the feature:
- Open the Google app (or download it from the Play Market if removed).
- Click on your avatar in the upper right corner and select Settings.
- Go to Google Assistant β Assistant.
- Scroll down to the Devices section and select your smartphone.
- Turn off the voice notifications or voice alerts slider.
If there is no item, try:
- π€ Google settings β Voice search β Voice alerts
- π Google settings β Services β Search, Assistant and Voice β Assistant settings
β οΈ Note: Some Xiaomi firmware (for example, MIUI 13 for Redmi K50) Google Assistant may conflict with the company's XiaoAI. If the problem persists after turning off the alerts in Google, check the XiaoAI settings (see Method 4).

Method 4: Deactivation of XiaoAI Voice Assistant
The branded voice assistant XiaoAI (or Mi AI in global firmware) often causes unwanted voiceovers. On Chinese versions of Xiaomi (such as the Redmi K60), it is activated by default and can include alerts after updates.
- Open Settings and go to the Apps.
- Find XiaoAI (or Mi AI) in the list and open its settings.
- Click Disable (if the button is active) or Remove Updates.
- Go back to Settings β Sound and vibration and check if XiaoAI Voice Alerts appears.
If the assistant does not switch off:
- π« Go to Settings. β Accounts and synchronization β XiaoAI and turn off synchronization.
- π B Settings β Battery and productivity β Auto-Run: Stop XiaoAI from running automatically.
- π΅ Remove the application through ADB (Requires unlocking the bootloader: adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.voiceassist
On some models (e.g. Xiaomi 13 Ultra), XiaoAI is integrated into the system and not removed completely, in which case only disabling through the developer settings (see Method 5) will help.

If some features (such as voice search in the gallery) are lost after the XiaoAI shutdown, install an alternative assistant, such as Siri (for iPhone users) or Bixby (for Samsung).
Method 5: Using Developer Parameters
If none of the previous methods worked, then we have to go to the hidden settings of the developer, which is suitable for power users and requires caution - incorrect changes can disrupt the system.
To disable voice alerts via Developer Options:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone and click on MIUI Version 7 times.
- Back to Settings β Additionally. β For developers.
- Find the USB Debugging option and activate it (this is a must for some commands).
- Scroll down to Media or Sound and disable: Voice notifications Voice prompts when calling Use text-to-speech (TTS)
If the necessary items are not, try to disable TTS-engine:
- π€ Go to Settings. β Annexes β All applications.
- π Find the Google Text-to-speech Engine or Pico TTS.
- π« Click Disable or Remove Updates.
β οΈ Attention: Disconnection TTS-The engine may disrupt other functions, such as navigation voiceovers in Google Maps or Yandex.Maps. If you have problems after the changes, return the settings to the original state.
| Xiaomi model | MIUI version | Working way. | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10 Pro | MIUI 13 | Method 1 (Special Opportunities) | It may need to be rebooted. |
| POCO F3 | MIUI 12.5 | Method 2 (Phone settings) | The item is hidden in the submenu "Additional" |
| Xiaomi 12T | MIUI 14 | Method 3 (Google Assistant) | Conflicts with XiaoAI |
| Redmi 9A | MIUI 12 | Method 4 (XiaoAI) | Required to disable autostart |
| Xiaomi Mi 11 | MIUI 13.5 | Method 5 (Developer settings) | We need to turn it off. TTS-engine |
Additional Methods: If Nothing Helps
If all of the above methods did not work, the problem may be related to:
- π± Custom firmware (such as LineageOS or Pixel Experience) where settings are available MIUI absent.
- π System failure after update (will help reset settings).
- π§ Third-party applications that intercept notifications (such as Truecaller or CallApp).
In these cases, try:
- Delete the system cache: Turn off the phone. Press the Power button + Volume up to log into Recovery. Select Wipe cache partition.
- Disable notifications for third-party applications: π± Go to Settings. β Annexes β Management of notifications. π Find apps like Truecaller and turn off their permission to show notifications.
- Perform a reset: This is a last resort! Pre-backup data. Way: Settings β About phone β Resetting β Reset all settings.

If voice alerts only appear when you connect to a Bluetooth headset, the problem may be in the device settings. Check the headset settings in the Settings menu β Connected devices β [headset name] β Call settings.
