What Xiaomi models support phone connection?
Almost all Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners released after 2016 support control through the app.
- 🔹 First generation (Mi Robot Vacuum 1, 2016) – requires manual selection of the region in the Mi Home (often “tied” to China).
- 🔹 Second generation (Mi Robot Vacuum 2, Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop) – Global versions are connected automatically, Chinese may require a change of server.
- 🔹 New models (Xiaomi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, Xiaomi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Ultra) – support Xiaomi Home and have an improved pairing procedure.
- 🔹 Budget series (Mi Robot Vacuum Lite, Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop Essential) – may not have some features (for example, virtual walls).
To determine compatibility accurately, check the serial number on the bottom of the vacuum cleaner or in the documentation. Models for the Chinese market (for example, with the CN prefix in the room) often require additional manipulation when connecting.
What's it gonna take to connect?
Before you start, prepare everything you need:
Download the Mi Home or Xiaomi Home app (depending on the vacuum cleaner model)
Make sure your phone is connected to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi (Xiaomi robots don’t work with 5GHz)
Charge the vacuum cleaner to at least 20% (better to 50%)
Prepare data from your Wi-Fi network (name and password)
Check that the phone is Bluetooth enabled (needed for initial synchronization)-->
Pay special attention to Wi-Fi frequency. Xiaomi robots do not support 5 GHz networks, which is the most common cause of connection errors. If your router is dual-band (2.4 + 5 GHz with one name), temporarily turn off 5 GHz or create a separate network for 2.4 GHz.

Step-by-step: how to connect a robot vacuum cleaner to the phone
Follow this algorithm for most Xiaomi models:
- Step 1. Turn on the vacuum cleaner Press and hold the power button on the robot body for 3-5 seconds until you hear the beep. On some models (for example, Xiaomi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Ultra), the button can be touch-sensitive – touch it once, then hold it.
- Step 2. Launch the Mi Home app Open the app and click + (Device Add icon) in the top right corner. Select Smart Home → Robot vacuum cleaner category.
- Step 3. Select a model The app will offer a list of compatible devices. If your model is not, select Mi Robot Vacuum (Universal Option). For new models (e.g. Xiaomi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro), you may need to select Xiaomi Robot Vacuum-Mop.
- Step 4: Connect to Wi-Fi Make sure your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz network. Enter the Wi-Fi password in the app. The robot will beep and flash the blue light, which means it's ready to pair.
- Step 5: Bluetooth Synchronization Allow the application to access geodata and Bluetooth. The robot will emit a long beep - this is a confirmation of a successful connection.
- Step 6: Set up a region, the app will suggest selecting a region (e.g. Russia, China, Europe). For global models, choose your region. For Chinese versions (CN), you may need to choose China and use a VPN.
Once successfully connected, the robot will automatically update the firmware (if a new version is available) and suggest creating a map of the room. The first cleaning can take up to 30-40 minutes, which is normal, since the vacuum cleaner scans the space.

Even if you follow the instructions correctly, you can have failures.

If the robot makes a voice error (e.g., “Wi-Fi connection failed”), check:
- 📶 Wi-Fi network name – it should not contain Cyrillic or special characters (only Latin and numerals).
- 🔒 Wi-Fi Password – Some models do not support WPA3, only WPA2.
- 🌍 Region in Appendix – Chinese models may be required VPN China-bound.
What if the robot is connected but not building a map?
Setting up a robot vacuum cleaner after connecting
Successful connectivity is only half the battle, so now you need to optimize the device.
- Create a map of the room Start the first cleaning in Full Cleaning mode. The robot will build a map that can then be edited: add no-go zones, virtual walls or divide rooms.
- Set your schedule Go to the Schedule and select the days/time of automatic cleaning. To save battery power, it is recommended to install cleaning for a time when you are not at home.
- Activate Voice Control If you have a Xiaomi Smart Speaker or Google Assistant, connect the robot to the voice assistant via Settings → Voice Control.
- Update firmware Check for updates in Settings → Update firmware. New versions of the software improve navigation and add features (such as carpet recognition).
For models with floor washing function (e.g. Xiaomi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro) configure:
- 💧 Water supply level (low to high depending on the type of coating).
- 🧹 The order of cleaning - first vacuum cleaner, then mop, or vice versa.
- 🚫 Areas without washing - for example, carpets or parquet.

After the first cleaning, be sure to save the map in the app (Save the map in the map menu). Without this, the robot will build a new map every time it turns on, which will increase the cleaning time.
How to integrate a robot vacuum cleaner into the Xiaomi ecosystem?
If you have other Xiaomi devices (such as the Mi Smart Band, Xiaomi Smart Lamp, or Mi Air Purifier), the robot vacuum cleaner can be paired with them to automate:

To minimize the risks:
