Xiaomi Redmi 9C NFC is a budget smartphone with good functionality, but the recording of telephone conversations in it is not activated by default. Many users face the problem: how to save important negotiations without resorting to third-party programs? In this article, we will analyze all working methods, from standard settings to circumventing the limitations of MIUI.
It is important to understand that the recording capabilities are subject to firmware version and regional restrictions, for example, in some EU countries the function is blocked at the software level due to privacy laws, we tested all methods on MIUI 12.5-14 (Android 10-12) and identified those that are guaranteed to work on Redmi 9C NFC with model number M2006C3MG.
If you are looking for a way to record an incoming or outgoing call without notifying the interlocutor, we immediately warn you: in most regions this is contrary to the law. Our instructions are only informative for legitimate use (for example, recording a business conversation with the consent of the second party).
Checking the support of call recording in your firmware
Before you try to turn on a record, make sure your version of MIUI supports this feature at all. In some Redmi 9C NFC software builds, the option is hidden or removed.
- Open the Calls app (pipe icon).
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner โ select Settings.
- Scroll down to the Recording of Conversations section. If it's not there, your firmware doesn't support out-of-the-box.
If there is no item, don't despair: below we will look at alternative methods, and in the meantime - the MIUI compatibility table for the Redmi 9C NFC:
| MIUI version | Support for recording | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 12.0โ12.5 (Global) | โ Yes. | The feature is available, but may require activation via the engineering menu |
| MIUI 12.5 (EEA) | โ No. | Blocked due to GDPR (root or third-party apps required) |
| MIUI 13โ14 (Global/EEA) | โ ๏ธ Partially. | In some regions, the function is returned, but it is not stable. |
| The Pixel Experience (LineageOS) | โ Yes. | Requires separate installation of CallRecorder module via Magisk |
โ ๏ธ Note: On the firmware for the European market (EEA) Call recording is often disabled at the kernel level, and trying to activate it through the engineering menu can cause the Calls app to crash, in which case only resetting or flashing the settings will help.
Standard method: activation through call settings
If your firmware supports recording, you can turn it on in 30 seconds.
- Open the Calls app.
- Put it on the icon ยซโฎยป (three-point) โ Settings.
- Select the Recording of Conversations (or Call Recording in English).
- Activate the Record Switch automatically.
- In the Audio Format section, we recommend choosing.mp3, which takes up less space than.amr.
Once activated, all calls will be recorded automatically. MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec They can be accessed through any file manager (e.g., Xiaomiโs โConductor).
Check the version of MIUI in Settings โ About the phone
Clear the cache of the Calls app (Settings โ Applications โ Application Management โ Calls โ Clear the cache)
Make sure there is free space (recording takes ~1-2 MB / minute)
Disable battery optimization for the Calls app
-->
An important nuance: by default, all calls are recorded, including those from spammers. To avoid memory clutter, set exceptions:
- In the Conversation Record menu, select Exceptions.
- Add numbers from contacts that donโt need to be recorded (such as banks or delivery services).
- Activate the option to Record only favorites if you want to record conversations only with important contacts.
โ ๏ธ Note: On some versions MIUI 13+ When you update, you reset your recording settings. Check them after each software update! If the feature is missing, try resetting the Calls app settings through Settings. โ Annexes โ Application management.
Alternative method: Engineering menu (for hidden function)
If you don't have a Record conversation in your settings, but your firmware should theoretically support the function (see the table above), try activating it through the engineering menu. This method works on MIUI 12.5 Global and some MIUI 13 builds.
Instructions:
- Open the Phone app and enter the combination: ##36446337## (code to activate the recording engineering menu).
- If the code doesnโt work, try the alternative: ##6484## (Team Module Test Menu).
- In the menu that opens, look for Call Settings or Voice Call.
- Activate Voice Recording or Call Record (can be called differently).
- Save the settings and restart the phone.
Once rebooted, the Calls app will have a previously hidden recording option, and note that this method may not work on firmware for the European market (EEA) due to hardware limitations.
What to do if the engineering menu is not opened?
Third-party applications for recording calls
If the standard methods didn't work, third-party utilities will come to the rescue, and we tested 5 popular applications on Redmi 9C NFC and selected the two most stable ones:
1. Cube Call Recorder ACR
The most reliable solution with VoIP recording support (Watsap, Telegram calls).
- ๐ฑ Works on MIUI 12.5-14 without root rights.
- ๐ค Records both conversations (unlike Xiaomiโs standard feature, which sometimes only captures your voice).
- โ๏ธ Automatic upload of records in Google Drive.
- โ ๏ธ Requires disabling battery optimization for the application.
How to set up:
- Install Cube ACR from Google Play.
- When you first start, provide all the permissions you request (microphone, call access, storage).
- In the application settings, select Record Source โ Voice Call.
- Activate the option to Ignore battery optimization (the app will prompt you to do this).
2. Automatic Call Recorder
A simple application with a minimalist interface, but with an important feature - it can separate entries by contacts into separate folders.
- ๐ Automatic sorting of files by number.
- ๐ Built-in search by record.
- ๐ Ability to add tags to important conversations.
- โ Does not record VoIP calls (only standard calls).
Both apps are free, but they have premium features (such as cloud storage or ad removal) and a free version will suffice for basic recording.
1. Is Do Not Disturb enabled - it can block access to the microphone.
2. Are there any restrictions on the application in Settings โ Special features โ Applications with special rights.
3. Is there enough free space on the phone (apps need a minimum of 500 MB for a recording buffer).

Solving Call Recording Problems
Even after you set it up properly, the recording may not work, and we've collected common errors and fixes for the Redmi 9C NFC:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Recording ends in 1-2 minutes | Battery optimization kills the process | Turn off optimization for Calls or Cube ACR app in Settings โ Battery โ Battery Optimization |
| Record files are empty (0 KB) | No right to record or crash the microphone | Check permissions in Settings โ Apps โ Permissions. Reboot your phone |
| Only my voice is recorded. | Firmware blocks recording of incoming audio | Use the Cube. ACR with setting source โ Voice call (VOICE_CALL) |
| No file with records. | Calls app failure | Clear cache and application data in Settings โ Apps โ Calls โ Storage |
If neither method worked, the reason could be a modem-level hardware lock, which is true for phones bought from carriers (such as MTS or Beeline), leaving two options:
- Reflash your phone to the Global version of MIUI (instructions are available on the 4PDA forum).
- Use an external recorder (for example, connect a second phone in recording mode).
โ ๏ธ Attention: On Redmi 9C NFC Sometimes the locking of the record is triggered due to the requirements of Roskomnadzor, in which case only changing the phone region to India or Global through the settings will help. SIM-map.
Where records are stored and how to keep them
By default, call records files are stored in the phoneโs internal memory along the way:
/storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/
or
/storage/emulated/0/Recordings/Call/To transfer them to your computer or to the cloud:
- Connect your phone to your PC via USB (select File Transfer Mode).
- Open the folder. MIUI/sound_recorder (or Recordings/Call).
- Copy files with the.mp3 or.amr extension to your hard drive.
For automatic synchronization with Google Drive:
- ๐ Install Autosync from Google Play.
- ๐ Set up the task of copying the folder /MIUI/sound_recorder/ your drive.
- โฑ Set a schedule (for example, daily backup at 2:00).
Important: Record files take up a lot of space. For example, an hour of conversation in.mp3 format weighs ~30-50 MB. Regularly clean the folder to avoid clogging the phone's memory.
๐ก
If you use the record to work, set up automatic deletion of old files through the Files by Google app (Clean Up โ Large Files section).
Legal aspects of recording calls
Before you turn on the record, make sure you do not violate local laws. Most countries have the following rules:
- ๐ท๐บ Russia: Recording a conversation without the consent of the interlocutor is allowed if you are a participant in the conversation (Article 23 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation), however, using the recording in court requires proof of its reliability.
- ๐บ๐ฆ Ukraine: It is necessary to notify the interlocutor of the recording (Article 317 of the Criminal Code), except for fixing threats or blackmail.
- ๐ช๐บ EU: Recording without consent is prohibited in most EU countries (GDPR). Exception โ business correspondence with prior notice.
- ๐บ๐ธ U.S.: Laws vary by state, 12 states (e.g. California) require consent from all participants in a conversation.
To avoid problems:
- ๐ข Always notify the interlocutor of the recording (suffice the phrase: โThe conversation is recorded to fix the agreementsยป).
- ๐ Keep a log of consents (for example, in the CRM note-book).
- ๐ซ Do not distribute records to third parties without permission.
If you record calls for business, be sure to add a notification to your answering machine or a welcome message.
"All conversations are recorded to improve the quality of service, and by continuing the conversation, you confirm your consent."
