Why Xiaomi only loads in Fastboot and what to do about it
You turned on a Xiaomi or a Redmi or a POCO smartphone, but instead of the usual lock screen, you saw a hare in a hat on a black background? This is Fastboot mode, an engineering tool for firmware and restore the device. 90% of the time, it was random: just press the volume button when you turn on or interrupt the system update. But how do you get the phone back to normal?
In this article, the only relevant in 2026 algorithm for exiting Fastboot for all Xiaomi models, including the new Xiaomi series 14, Redmi Note 13 and Xiaomi. POCO F6. We'll look at both the soft (no data loss) and the hard (complete reset) methods, and explain why the phone can stick in this mode. Method 1: Standard button exit (works 70% of the time)
The easiest method that works if the phone hits the Fastboot by accident (for example, because of button clamping) is suitable for all models, including the Xiaomi 13T, Redmi 12 and POCO X5.
You need to:
- Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds until the screen goes out.
- After vibration (off signal) immediately press and hold the power button + increase volume.
- Hold both buttons until the MI logo appears (usually 5-8 seconds).
If the phone is loaded back into Fastboot:
- 🔄 Repeat the procedure 2-3 times (sometimes it works with 2-3 attempts)
- 🔌 Connect charging and repeat (some models block output when low charge is involved)
- 🕒 Wait 10 minutes – sometimes the system restarts itself after a timeout.

⚠️ Warning: If the screen flashes after pressing the buttons and returns to Fastboot again, this is a sign of a damaged bootloader. In this case, proceed to a hard reset or firmware via PC.
Method 2: Exit through the Mi Flash Tool (for power users)
If the buttons don't work, you'll have to connect the phone to your computer, which requires drivers and special software from Xiaomi, but it's guaranteed to work even on bricks, and it works for all models, including the Xiaomi 12S Ultra and Redmi K60.
