Why the smartphone booted in Safe Mode and what it means
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 can suddenly go into Safe Mode after an incorrect shutdown, application conflict, or system failure. In this state, the device blocks all third-party programs, leaving only basic Android features.
The main reasons for activation:
- ๐ Incorrect shutdown โ if the battery is discharged to 0% or you have forced the power out during the upgrade.
- ๐ฑ Application conflict โ virus software damaged APK-files or incompatible programs (e.g. modified launchers).
- ๐ง System Error โ After Failed Update MIUI or reset.
- ๐ Hardware problems โ damage to the power button or charging connector (rarely, but possible).
In most cases, the mode is automatically activated as a protective measure, but if it is activated after each reboot, it signals a deep problem, from a virus to damage to the /system partition.
Method 1: Standard Reboot (works 80% of the time)
The easiest way to exit Safe Mode is to reboot normally, and on the Redmi Note 7, this works if the mode is turned on due to a temporary failure.
Hold the power button 10-15 seconds | Wait for the turn off menu to appear | Select Restart | Wait 2-3 minutes until full load-->
If the mode remains active after the reboot:
- ๐ Check the battery power โ at a level below 5%, the system can activate Safe Mode again.
- ๐ด Extract. SIM-card and memory card (if any) โ sometimes they cause conflicts when downloading.
- ๐ Connect the charger - a discharged battery can interfere with the correct exit from the mode.
โ ๏ธ Warning: If the mode does not turn off after 3-4 reboots, do not continue trying - this can lead to a cyclic boot.
Method 2: Forced shutdown via buttons (for โhangโ devices)
If your smartphone doesn't respond to a standard reboot or the menu doesn't appear, use a hardware reset, which works even when you're deep-hanging.
Instructions:
- Hold the power button and increase the volume at the same time for 10-20 seconds.
- When the screen goes out, release the buttons and wait for the vibration (the start signal).
- If the Xiaomi logo appears, but the mode is activated again, repeat the procedure 2-3 times.
| Symptoms. | Action. | Reason. |
|---|---|---|
| The screen is not responding, but the lights are on. | Keep power + volume up to 25+ seconds | Android kernel software failure |
| Recovery menu appears | Select Reboot โ Reboot to System | Incorrect completion of work |
| Cyclical reboot (bootloop) | Go to Method 4 (Recovery Reset) | Damage to system files |
โ ๏ธ Warning: If after a hardware reset, the smartphone goes to Fastboot Mode, do not try to sew it without experience.

If the power button is damaged, use the volume up + volume down โ this works on some firmware too.
Method 3: Remove conflict applications (if the mode is re-enabled)
If Redmi Note 7 is constantly returning to Safe Mode after downloading, one of the installed apps is to blame.
Algorithm of action:
- Load in Safe Mode (it is already active).
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Sort the programs by installation date (โฎ โ Sort by: Installation date).
- Remove the last 5-10 apps installed before the problem occurs.
- Reset the device.
Typical "culprits":
- ๐ก๏ธ Antiviruses (Avast, 360 Security) are in conflict with the MIUI.
- ๐ฎ GameGuardian, Lucky Patcher).
- ๐ฑ Castom launchers (Nova Launcher, Apex).
- ๐ง Modified APK (hacked versions of applications).

Method 4: Reset settings via Recovery (last chance before firmware)
If previous methods didn't work, reset to factory settings via the Recovery menu, which will delete all data, but will restore the system to work.
Instructions:
- Turn off the smartphone (hold power for 10+ seconds).
- Press the power + volume up until the Mi logo appears.
- From the Recovery menu, select the language (if you have a choice), then: Wipe Data โ Wipe All Data โ Confirm
- After reset, select Reboot โ Reboot to System.
What will be removed:
- ๐ธ All photos, videos and documents in internal memory.
- ๐ฑ Installed applications and their data.
- ๐ Google Accounts, Mi Accounts and Wi-Fi Passwords.
- โ๏ธ System settings (sound, display, fingerprints).
โ ๏ธ Note: If after reset, the smartphone requires you to enter the Mi Account password, and you do not remember it, the device will be locked forever.
๐ก
Recovery is the only way to get back up if Safe Mode is activated because of damage to system files, but itโs an extreme measure: it will require a โswitch from scratchโ setting.
Method 5: Fastboot Firmware (for power users)
If the reset doesnโt work, you have to reflash the device via Fastboot mode, a method that requires a PC, a USB cable, and an official firmware for the Redmi Note 7 (codenamed lavender).
Step-by-step:
- Download the official firmware for your model (Fastboot version).
- Unpack the archive in a folder on the C:\ disk (the path should not contain Cyrillic!).
- Install Qualcomm and Mi Flash Tool drivers.
- Transfer the smartphone to Fastboot mode: Turn off the device โ Press <power button> + <volume down> before the rabbit appears in the eardress cap.
- Connect the Redmi Note 7 to your PC and launch MiFlash.exe.
- In the program, select the folder with firmware, press Refresh (should appear). COM-port, then flash.
Firmware time: 5-10 minutes. Once completed, the smartphone will automatically restart.
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| MiFlash: "Cannot receive hello packet" | Inappropriate firmware or drivers | Check the firmware version (should be for lavender) |
| "Device is locked" | The bootloader is blocked (bootloader) | Unlock with the Mi Unlock Tool |
| The smartphone does not turn on after firmware | Misconception of MIUI version selected | Repeat the firmware with the correct version (e.g. V12.5.1.0 for global) |
โ ๏ธ Note: Fastboot firmware erases all data, including the contents of internal memory. If your smartphone had important files, try extracting them first through the device. ADB safe-haven.
How to prevent the re-enactment of safe mode
To prevent Redmi Note 7 from migrating to Safe Mode, follow these guidelines:
- ๐ Update regularly MIUI โ In new versions, errors that cause failures are corrected.
- ๐ก๏ธ Do not install software from unknown sources โ even APK From verified sites may contain malicious code.
- ๐ Keep an eye on battery power โ donโt let it fall below 10%, it can damage your system files.
- ๐ฑ Use original chargers โ poor quality cables can cause voltage surges.
- โ๏ธ Periodically clear the cache through Settings โ Memory. โ Clear the cache.
If the problem occurs after installing a specific application (such as a banking or gaming app), check its compatibility with your version of MIUI on XDA Developers.
