Why you need a safe mode on Xiaomi smartphones

Safe Mode on Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phones is a diagnostic tool that runs a system with a minimum set of drivers and third-party apps disabled. It helps identify causes of failures when the phone brakes, overheats or spontaneously reboots. For example, if after installing a new application, the screen began to blink, and in normal mode it is impossible to determine the culprit, Safe Mode will show whether the bug is associated with software or hardware.

Unlike factory resets, entering Safe Mode does not delete user data, making it the first step in diagnosing problems on MIUI (including MIUI 14 and HyperOS versions), but it is important to understand that this mode disables all applications except system ones, so you will not be able to use instant messengers, social networks or banking services, but you will get a clean environment for testing.

Ways to enter safe mode on a working phone

If your Xiaomi is turning on and responding to clicks, use one of these methods. They are suitable for all models, from the Redmi Note 10 to the flagship Xiaomi 14 Ultra, regardless of the version of MIUI or HyperOS.

Method 1: Through the off menu

The easiest way to do this is to work on 90% of devices:

1. Press and hold the Power button (usually located on the right) until the turn off menu appears.
2. In the window that appears, tap and hold your finger on the option to turn off (or turn off power).
3. In 2-3 seconds, you'll be prompted to switch to Safe Mode. Confirm your choice.

The phone will reboot and the bottom left corner of the screen will be marked Safe Mode (or Safe Mode in English firmware).

Method 2: The combination of buttons when turned on

Method 1: Forced reboot + button combination

Suitable for phones with non-removable battery:

1. Press the Power and Volume button for 10-15 seconds at the same time until the phone turns off (vibration will confirm the shutdown).
2. Immediately after the vibration, release both buttons and quickly press Power once.

What can and cannot be done in a safe environment

The main purpose of Safe Mode is diagnostics, not everyday use, so many features will be limited to:

How to get out of Safe Mode on Xiaomi

If the phone does not respond to the reboot:
