A forgotten password from a Xiaomi app can be a serious problem, especially if it comes to banking services, instant messengers or work accounts. Unlike unlocking the screen, where the Mi Account helps, restoring access to individual programs requires a different approach. In this article, we will discuss legal methods (through MIUI functions and application services) and technical methods (for power users) that work on models from Redmi Note 10 to Xiaomi 13 Ultra.
It is important to understand that if an application uses server authorization (for example, WhatsApp, VKontakte or SberBank Online), the password is stored on a remote server and can only be restored through official channels. Local passwords (for example, from archivers or some games) can sometimes be extracted using system tools. We will not consider hacking or circumventing security - this is contrary to Xiaomi policy and can harm the device.
Before you start, check:
- 🔍 Do you have a backup of your data (e.g., in Mi Cloud or Google Drive)?
- 📱 Is your smartphone connected to your Mi Account (this will make it easier to recover)?
- 🔑 Do you use a password manager (e.g. Google Password Manager or Google Password Manager)? 1Password)?
1. Password recovery through the “Forgot password?” function in the application
Most modern applications have built-in access recovery, and this is the most secure and recommended method.
- Open the application where the password is forgotten.
- On the login screen, find the link Forgot your password?, Restore access or similar (usually located below the password input field).
- Follow the instructions on the screen. You'll need to do it most often: 📧 Specify the email or phone associated with the account. 🔢 Enter the verification code from SMS letter. 🔄 Invent a new password.

⚠️ Note: If the application requests two-factor authentication (2FA), a access to the backup code is lost, recovery may not be possible, in which case contact the service with proof of account ownership (for example, a check for payment or screenshots of correspondence).
2.Using the MIUI or Google Password Manager
Xiaomi smartphones based on MIUI 12-14 automatically store some passwords in the system storage.
- Open Settings → Passwords and Security → Password Manager.
- Sign in with a pattern lock, PIN-fingerprint.
- Find the app you want in the list, and if you save the password, it'll be displayed as dots, click on it to see it.
If the system manager is empty, check the Google Password Manager.
- Go to passwords.google.com (sign up with the same account as your phone).
- In the list, find the application - the password will be hidden behind the stars, but it can be copied.
- 🔄 Restore backup (if available in Mi Cloud or Google Drive).
Critical: Using password cracking software (such as Hashcat or John the Ripper) on mobile devices almost always results in data loss or account locking.These tools are designed for PCs and require the extraction of a password hash, which is impossible without root on Xiaomi.
6.Extreme measures: Resetting the phone to factory settings
If access to the application is critical and other methods have not worked, then you will have to reset completely, which will remove all data from the device, including passwords, photos and settings.
- Back up important data (contacts, photos, documents) via Mi Cloud or Google Drive.
- Go to Settings → About Phone → Backup and Reset → Reset settings.
- Choose to erase all data and confirm the action.
- After you reboot, set your phone as new. Some apps (like WhatsApp) will allow you to reset your account via SMS.
⚠️ Note: On Xiaomi devices with a locked bootloader, the reset can activate Factory Reset Protection (FRP). After the reset, you will need to enter the login and password from the last Mi Account associated with the phone.
