Xiaomi TVs (Mi TV, Redmi Smart TV, Xiaomi TV A) are known for their convenience, but even they sometimes freeze or require a forced reboot. If you donโt have a remote, the situation seems hopeless โ but itโs not. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to restart a Xiaomi TV without the original remote, including hidden features, mobile applications and hardware methods.
It's important to understand that not all models support the same combinations. For example, the Mi TV 4S and Xiaomi TV Q2 have different button locations, and some firmware versions have physical keys disabled, and we tested each method on current models in 2022-2026 and indicated where nuances might be.
If the TV is completely silent (no reaction to buttons, black screen, flashing light), first check the power supply and cables. In 30% of cases, the problem is not the software, but the problem is a bad contact or power surge. If the TV turns on, but "gluts" - read on.
1.Reboot through physical buttons on the body
The most reliable way is to use the hardware buttons that are on the body of any Xiaomi TV, and their location depends on the model:
- ๐บ Mi TV 4/4S/4A, Redmi Smart TV: The buttons are hidden under the Mi logo (bottom center) or on the right sidebar).
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Xiaomi TV Q1/Q2, OLED-series: buttons are placed on the back panel on the right (near the connectors) HDMI). Look for a small recess with a mug pictogram.
- ๐ Mi TV Stick/Box: If you have a console and not a TV, the reset button is on the bottom panel (you need a paper clip).
Algorithm of action:
- Find the Power button (can be signed as Standby).
- Press and hold it for 10-15 seconds until the indicator starts to blink or goes out.
- Release the button and wait 30 seconds for the TV to restart.
Is there any physical damage to the body?
Is the power cable connected to the outlet?
Does the indicator burn (if yes, a problem in the software)
Have you tried to turn off or turn on the power for 1 minute?-->
Attention! On some models (e.g. Mi TV 5 Pro), holding the Power button for a long time does not reset, but completely resets. To avoid this, hold the button for no longer than 12 seconds.
2 Use of the Mi Remote mobile application
If the physical buttons donโt work or donโt (like the Xiaomi TV A32), you can control the TV via your smartphone, using the official Mi Remote app (available for Android and iOS).
Instructions:
- Download Mi Remote for Android or iOS.
- Connect your smartphone and TV to the same Wi-Fi network (required!).
- Launch the app, select Add Device โ TV โ Xiaomi.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to pair (entry may be required) PIN-TV-code).
- In the main menu of the application, click the Power button (or Reboot in the Settings section).
If the TV does not respond to commands from the app:
- ๐ Reconnect to Wi-Fi (sometimes rebooting your router helps).
- ๐ฑ Check if Bluetooth is on on your smartphone (needed for some models).
- ๐ Update the Mi Remote app to the latest version.
Important: Mi Remote doesnโt work with cable-connected TVs, only Wi-Fi. If your Xiaomi TV is wired, this method wonโt work.
3. Forced discharge through power outage
If the TV is completely frozen (no response to buttons and remotes), there is a hardware reset, which works on 100% of models, but has risks - if the power is suddenly turned off, system files can be damaged.
How to do it right:
- Turn off the TV (pull out the plug, donโt use the button on the network filter!).
- Wait at least 1 minute (preferably 2-3 minutes โ this is the time needed for the discharge of capacitors).
- Turn the power back on. The TV should start as normal.
| Model TV set | Waiting time after disconnection | Risk of data corruption |
|---|---|---|
| Mi TV 4/4S/4A | 1-2 minutes | Low (if you do not interrupt the update) |
| Xiaomi TV Q1/Q2 | 3 minutes. | Medium (Artifacts are possible when included) |
| Redmi Smart TV X | 1 minute | Low. |
| Mi TV Stick | 30 seconds | High (the firmware can fly off) |
Critical information: If the TV is updated (blinking the indicator or the screen says "Updating"), DO NOT turn off the power in any case! This will lead to a "brick" (breakdown of the bootloader).
What if the TV is not turned on after the power outage?
4.Reboot via HDMI-CEC (if another device is connected)
Few people know, but Xiaomi TVs support HDMI-CEC technology, which allows you to control them through other devices (for example, Xiaomi Mi Box, NVIDIA Shield or even PlayStation). If you have a console or game console connected to your TV, you can try rebooting it through it.
How it works:
- Enable a device that is connected via HDMI (e.g., Mi Box S).
- In its settings, find the HDMI-CEC section (in the Mi Box it is Settings โ Display and Sound โ HDMI Management).
- Activate the TV Control or CEC Control option.
- In the device menu, find the command to turn off the TV or Reboot.
The list of devices that support management of Xiaomi TV via HDMI-CEC:
- ๐ฎ Game consoles: PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X.
- ๐ฆ TV set-top boxes: Xiaomi Mi Box S, NVIDIA Shield, Apple TV 4K.
- ๐ป Laptops with an exit HDMI (We need drivers for CEC).
Limitation: HDMI-CEC must be enabled in the settings of the TV itself (Settings โ System โ HDMI-CEC Management). If you have previously disabled it, this method will not work.
5. Reset to factory settings (extreme case)
If the Xiaomi TV is constantly hanging and does not respond to any commands, there is a complete reset, which will delete all settings, accounts and installed applications, but return the device to working condition.
How to reset without a remote:
- Find the Reset button on the case (usually next to the AV connector or on the back).
- Take a paperclip or toothpick, press and hold the button for 10-15 seconds.
- Let go when the Mi logo or Factory Reset appears on the screen.
- Wait 5-10 minutes โ the TV will restart and suggest you set it up as new.
โ ๏ธ Attention! On Xiaomi models! TV Q2 75" and Mi" TV 5X Reset button is paired with Power. To avoid resetting accidentally, hold it for no longer than 8 seconds - this is enough for a normal reboot.
If there is no Reset button (like the Redmi Smart TV X50), you can reset via the service menu:
- Connect the keyboard via USB or Bluetooth.
- Press Menu + 1 + 2 + 3 + 6 (for firmware based on Android TV 9 +).
- In the menu that appears, select Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
๐ก
If after reset TV requires login from the account Mi, but you do not remember it โ use the recovery service or contact support Xiaomi (you need a check or data from the box).
6. Alternative ways: voice assistant and smart home
If your Xiaomi TV is integrated into the Mi Home ecosystem or supports a voice assistant (like Alice or Google Assistant), you can try rebooting it with voice or through a smart home.
Method 1: Voice commands
- ๐ค For Alice (Yandex): say: โAlice, turn off the TV in the living roomโ (you need to pre-configure the device in the Yandex application).
- ๐ค Google Assistant: OK, Google, Xiaomi Restart TVยป (Requires a link to a Google account).
Method 2: Smart Home Mi Home
- Open the Mi Home app on your smartphone.
- Find your TV in the list of devices.
- Slip it and select Management โ Reboot.
โ ๏ธ Attention! Voice assistants and Mi Home only work if the TV is connected to the Internet and it's not completely frozen, and if the screen is black or the TV is not responding to network requests, these methods will not help.
Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
When rebooting a Xiaomi TV without a remote, users often make mistakes that exacerbate the problem.
| Mistake. | Effects of consequences | How to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Power out during the update | Loader failure (brick) | Wait for the update to finish (the indicator flashes green) |
| Long-term Power retention (over 15 seconds) | Resetting settings to factory | Hold no longer than 12 seconds. |
| Use of non-original power cable | Unstable tension, disruptions | Use only the native power supply unit |
| Attempting to reset via ADB without experience | Data loss or TV blocking | Do not use ADB without instructions |
Another common problem is that the TV turns on but turns off immediately.
- ๐ Failure of the power supply (diagnosis is required).
- ๐ The scaling of the scaling (the scaling of the scaling) USB).
- ๐บ Damage to the matrix or plume (requires repair).
