Forgot the password from the Xiaomi router admin panel and can't log in? This problem is familiar to many users - especially if the device was configured long ago or purchased from hand. Unlike the Wi-Fi password, which can be viewed on the case sticker, login data to the web interface (192.168.31.1 or miwifi.com) is often lost without the ability to recover through standard means.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to access the Xiaomi router, from standard login/password combinations to hardware reset and bypass authorization via Mi Home. Particular attention will be paid to the Mi Router 4A, AX3600, 4C and Pro models, since their firmware has key differences, and you will learn how to avoid blocking after unsuccessful login attempts and what to do if the router requires a link to a Xiaomi account.
⚠️ Warning: Some methods (e.g., discharge through UART Or flashing it, it could cause you to lose your warranty or your device to fail. If you're not sure what you're doing, you can contact the service center.
Standard logins and passwords for Xiaomi routers
Before you start resetting, check the factory credentials. Most Xiaomi routers depend on the firmware version and the region of sale. Here are the current combinations for popular models:
- 🔑 Login: admin, Password: admin – standard for old firmware (until 2019).
- 🔑 Login: empty field, Password: the last character SSID (Wi-Fi network names – used in some versions of the Mi Router 4A.
- 🔑 Login: root, Password: password from Wi-Fi - found on firmware for the European market.
- 🔑 Login/password: Device serial number (on the sticker below) is rare, but it’s worth checking.
If the router previously configured via the Mi Wi-Fi or Mi Home app, the password could be synced to your Xiaomi account.
- Application Mi Home (Devices section» → select router → «Settings»).
- Web interface at miwifi.com with authorization through QR-code.
Note: Starting with the firmware 2.28.XX (2022), Xiaomi routers require a link to a Mi Account when first connected. If the device was reset, without the account data of the original owner, access to settings will be limited.
How to Reset Passwords via Web Interface (If Current)
If you remember your current password but want to change it, do it through the Administrator Panel:
- Go to your browser at 192.168.31.1 or miwifi.com.
- Enter your login and password (if requested).
- Go to the System Settings section → User management.
- Select the option “Change password” and specify a new one.
⚠️ Important: The new password must contain at least 8 characters, including numbers and letters of different registers. Avoid simple combinations like 12345678 or password - they are easy to pick up through brute force.
Use 12+ characters
Mix letters (A-z), numbers (0-9) and special characters (!@#$%)
Do not use personal information (dates of birth, names)
Avoid repetitive sequences (Qwerty, 1111)

Hardware reset router to factory settings
If standard passwords don’t fit and Xiaomi account data is lost, the only reliable way is to reset completely, which will return the router to the “out of the box” state, but all settings (including Wi-Fi name, network password and guest access) will be erased.
Instructions for most Xiaomi models:
- On the router turned on, find the Reset button (usually deepened into the case, next to the power connector).
- Take a paper clip or toothpick, press and hold the button for 10-15 seconds until the indicators start flashing yellow/orange.
- Release the button and wait for the reboot (2-3 minutes).
- Connect to the network. Xiaomi_XXXX (without password and reset the router via miwifi.com.
⚠️ Attention: On models AX3600 And the Mi Router 4 Pro Reset button can be touch-sensitive, in which case hold it with your finger until the indicator flashes twice.
What to do if the reset does not work?
Bypassing authorization via Mi Home (if the router is linked to the account)
Since 2020, Xiaomi has implemented reset protection through binding to the Mi Account. After a hardware reset, the router can require the username / password of the original owner.
- 📱 Contact the previous owner and ask to untie the router in the Mi Home app (Devices section» → tap on the router → «Remove the device»).
- 🔧 Use the bypass method (does not work on all firmware):
The circumvention will require:
- Connect to the router via cable (LAN port).
- Open the browser and go to 192.168.31.1/cgi-bin/luci.
- Enter javascript:document.cookie="sysauth=1";window.location.reload(); and press Enter.
- If you have an administrator panel, change the password in the System → Administration section.
⚠️ Warning: This method may not work on new firmware (2023)+ It also temporarily disables some security features, so after changing the password, be sure to update the router firmware.
Reset password via Telnet or SSH (for advanced users)
If you have access to Telnet or SSH (for example, through a UART debugging port), you can manually reset your password, which is suitable for Mi Router 3G, 4A Gigabit and some AX3600 modifications.
Procedure:
- Connect to the router via Telnet (port 23) or SSH (port 22).
nvram set http_passwd=""
nvram commit
rebootadmin
💡 Useful advice: Before working with UART Take pictures of the contacts on the board, which will help to avoid short circuits. UART usually 3.3V, So don't connect directly to USB-PC port (use level converter).
Table: Password reset methods for different Xiaomi models
| Model router | Standard password | Supports reset via Reset | Requires an account for Mi | Alternative methods |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Router 4A | admin/admin or empty | Yes. | From 2022 | JavaScript bypass, Telnet |
| Mi Router AX3600 | Wi-Fi password | Yes (touch button) | Yes. | UART, uncoupling through Mi Home |
| Mi Router 4C | The last SSID symbol | Yes. | No. | Reset after 30-30-30 (hold Reset 90 seconds) |
| Mi Router Pro | Serial number. | Yes. | Yes. | Flashing through TFTP |
| Mi Router 3G/3 | root/admin | Yes. | No. | SSH, Firmware Replacement with OpenWRT |
💡
On models with a binding to the Mi Account (AX3600, 4 Pro), a hardware reset will not help - you will need an uncoupling through the original account or flashing.
What do you do if nothing helps?
If all of these methods fail, radical measures remain:
- 🔄 Flip-through TFTP — It requires a special cable and firmware for your model. 4PDA OpenWRT.
- 🛠️ Flash memory replacement is an extreme case if the firmware is damaged. CH341A.
- 📞 Contact the service center – official Xiaomi centers can reset the binding to the account on purchase documents.
⚠️ Note: Flashing to custom software (such as OpenWRT) is warranty-free and can lead to unstable router operation. Before the procedure, check the compatibility of your model on the OpenWRT ToH website.
💡
If the router is bought with hands, ask the seller to provide a check or box – this will help prove ownership in the service center.
