Recording phone conversations on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones is a useful feature that helps you capture important details of negotiations, confirm agreements or simply save memorable conversations. However, not everyone knows where these records are stored, how to find them in the file system of the device or restore them if they are gone. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to listen to call records on the Redmi Note 12/11/10 Pro, POCO X5/F5 and other models – from standard MIUI tools to third-party applications.
It's important to understand that the ability to record conversations depends on the firmware version, regional restrictions (in some countries the feature is blocked by law), and the settings of the specific carrier. If your device does not have an option out of the box, we will show you how to activate it or how to replace it, and for those who have already recorded a conversation but can not find it, a detailed guide to search for files in the phone's memory.
1. Where are the default call records on Xiaomi Redmi stored
In MIUI 14/13/12.5, the phone records are automatically stored in the secure folder of the system, and the path to them depends on the version of the software and the model of the smartphone, but most often the files are located here:
- 📁 /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/ — standard-position MIUI 12–14.
- 📁 /storage/emulated/0/Recordings/Call/ — Alternative path on some devices.
- 📁 /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.android.providers.media/ — If the records are synced with Google Drive.
The files are.amr or.mp3 and are named by pattern: CallRecord_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.amr. To see them, you will need any file manager (for example, the standard Files from Xiaomi or Solid Explorer). If the folder is empty, check the recording settings - the function may be disabled.
How fast to find the folder:
- Open the Files app (Blue folder icon).
- Go to the tab "Category» → «Audio».
- In the list, find the "Records" or "Call Recorder" section.
- Sort files by date to see the latest records.
⚠️ Attention: On devices with Android 12+ and MIUI 13+ Access to system folders may be limited. If the file manager doesn't show records, try using a Root Explorer (superuser rights required) or connect your phone to your PC.
2. How to enable automatic call recording in MIUI
If your Redmi doesn’t record conversations by itself, it’s likely disabled in settings, and you can turn it on in two ways: through the standard Phone app or through the Security menu. Instructions are relevant for the Redmi Note 11/12, POCO F4/X4 and other models on MIUI 14/13.
Method 1: Through the Phone App
- Open the phone application (green handset).
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner → “Settings”.
- Select “Conversation Recording” (or “Call Recording” on English firmware).
- Activate the Automatic Recording switch.
- Tell me which calls to record: 📞 All incoming and outgoing; 📵 Only selected contacts; 🔕 Delete certain numbers.
Method 2: Through "Security"
On some firmware, the option is hidden in the security menu:
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Find the phone and open the permissions.
- Make sure that the "Audio Record" permission is enabled.
- Return to Settings → Security → Record conversations and activate the function.
Automatic recording is enabled in the phone settings
Permission to record audio for the "Phone" application has been issued
Free memory (minimum 50 MB)
Do Not Disturb mode is disabled (can block the recording)-->
On devices with MIUI Global (European/Indian firmware), call recording may be disabled for legal reasons, in which case changing the firmware region to China ROM or using third-party applications will help.
3. How to listen to a recording through the standard "Records" application
Xiaomi has pre-installed a special application on Redmi called Records, which automatically collects all audio files, including call records, to replay the conversation:
- Open the Records app (if not, download from Google Play for “Mi Recorder”).
- Go to the Calls (or Call Recordings) tab.
- Select the desired entry from the list - it will appear with date, time and duration.
- Click on the file to listen to it directly in the app.
How to set up Cube Call Recorder ACR:
- Download the app from Google Play and open it.
- Give all the permissions you request (audio recording, access to contacts).
- Select in the settings: 📞 «Record all calls or only select ones; 🎙️ Recording format (.mp3 or wav); ☁️ Autoboot to the cloud (Google Drive, Dropbox).
"History"
⚠️ Attention: On Android 10+ Third-party apps can only record your voice (due to Google restrictions), and both will require root access or firmware to record.
💡
If the app doesn’t record calls, check if it optimizes MIUI. Go to Settings → Apps → App Management → Cube ACR → Battery and select “No Limits”.
5. How to recover deleted call records
If you accidentally delete a recording of a conversation, you can try to restore it with specialized utilities. Success depends on how long it has been since you deleted it and whether the phone's memory has been used since then. Let's look at two reliable ways.
Method 1: Through DiskDigger (without root)
- Download DiskDigger from Google Play.
- Select the Audio section and click Scan.
- After the scan is completed, find files with the.amr or.mp3 extension.
- Mark the required records and click "Restore".
Method 2: EaseUS MobiSaver (with root)
For deep scanning, root rights will be required:
- Connect Redmi to your PC and launch EaseUS MobiSaver.
- Select the Android Data Recovery mode.
- Mark the type of audio files and click Scan.
- After analysis, select deleted records and save them to your computer.
In some countries (e.g. Germany, France) illegal recording of conversations can result in fines of up to 50,000 euros or criminal liability.
