Why Xiaomi 9T Call Records Are Hard to Find
You turned on the call recording on Xiaomi 9T (aka Redmi K20), but after the call is over, you canโt find the file? This problem is familiar to many users of Xiaomi smartphones. The fact is that the manufacturer does not always transparently tell where the recordings of conversations are stored โ the path depends on the version of MIUI, the settings of the Phone application, and even on the recording method (automatic or manual).
In this article, we will look at all possible locations for storing records, learn how to search for them through the file manager and standard MIUI tools, and how to transfer files to a computer or to the cloud, and pay special attention to common errors that cause records to disappear, such as improper permission settings or conflicts with battery optimization.
If you are using Xiaomi 9T on MIUI 12-14, the information below is relevant to you. For older versions (MIUI 10-11), some paths may differ, as we will mention.
1. Standard location of call records on Xiaomi 9T
By default, conversation records on Xiaomi 9T are stored in the deviceโs internal memory along the following path:
/storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/Alternatively (depending on the version of MIUI):
/storage/emulated/0/Recordings/CallRecord/The files are formatted.m4a or.amr and named by template: CallRecord_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS_XXXXXXXXXX.m4a, where XXXXXXXXXX โ telephone number of the interlocutor (if he has decided).
โ ๏ธ Note: If you are using duality SIM-cards, records can be divided into folders CallRecord_Slot1 and CallRecord_Slot2. Check both!
- ๐ folder MIUI/sound_recorder โ standard-place MIUI 12โ14. It also stores recordings from the recorder.
- ๐ Format.m4a โ It is used by default for high sound quality (bitrate) ~96 kbit/s).
- ๐ฑ Recordings folder โ appears if you manually changed the save location in the Phone app settings".
๐ก
If the folder call_rec empty, check the recording settings in the Phone app - you may have disabled file saving or chosen another path.
2. How to find records through the application "Phone"
You don't have to go through the file manager -- Xiaomi 9T lets you listen to and manage your records directly from the standard Phone app. Here's how to do it:
- Open the phone application (pipe icon).
- Go to the tab "Journal" (watch icon in the lower menu).
- Find a call in the list marked "Recorded" (mic icon) ๐ค near-room).
- Tap on the record โ the player will open with the ability to listen, delete or send the file.
If you don't have a log entry, but you're sure you did:
- ๐ Check the filter in the log: click on three dots (โฎ) โ "Show the tapes".
- ๐ฅ Make sure that the record is not automatically deleted due to memory shortage (setting up Autoclean in the MIUI).
- ๐ Restart your phone โ sometimes records are displayed after a system restart.
What if the record is in the journal, but not played?
3. Alternative places of record storage
If you donโt have records in standard folders, check these locations:
| Storage area | When used | Example of a path |
|---|---|---|
| Google Drive | If synchronization with Google is enabled | /Google Drive/Call Recordings/ |
| Mi Cloud | When Backing Up to Xiaomi Cloud | Cloud Mi โ Backups โ Application Data โ Phone |
| SD-map | If the settings are selected saving on an external drive | /storage/XXXX-XXXX/MIUI/sound_recorder/ |
| The Dictaphone application folder | If the recording was conducted through a third-party recorder | /storage/emulated/0/Recorder/ |
Important: On Xiaomi 9T s MIUI 13+ Default records are not saved on SD-card โ this option must be enabled manually in the settings of the application โPhone".
4.Why records are not saved: typical problems
If you have enabled the record but no files, the reasons may be as follows:
- ๐ซ No rights to record: B MIUI 12+ You need to explicitly allow the Phone app to access the microphone and storage. โ Annexes โ Management of rights โ Application authorizations.
- ๐ Optimizing the battery: MIUI It can block recording in the background. Add "Phone" to exceptions: Settings โ Battery โ Optimizing the battery โ All applications โ Phone. โ No restrictions.
- ๐ต Conflict with other apps: If you have Truecaller, Call Recorder or analogues installed, they can intercept the recording.
- ๐ฑ Regional restrictions: In some countries (e.g. the EU), recording calls is prohibited by law, and Xiaomi blocks the feature at the firmware level.
โ ๏ธ Attention: On Xiaomi 9T global-fixed (MIUI Global) call recording can be disabled by default. To enable it, go to Settings โ Annexes โ Phone. โ Record calls and activate the option.
Is the record enabled in the settings of "Phone" | Is the right to microphone and storage | Is the battery optimization for "Phone" turned off | Is free memory sufficient (minimum 500 MB) | Is there any conflicts with other applications-->

๐ก
If the automatic recording does not work, check if the number has been added to the blacklist (Phone settings โ Blacklist).
