Xiaomi Mi Band 4 remains one of the most popular fitness bracelets even years after its release. But what if the device started to glittle, does not sync with the smartphone or you decide to sell it?
In this article, we will discuss all possible ways of resetting, from the standard (via the Mi Fit or Zepp Life app) to the hidden (hardware button, forced reset via charging), and you will learn how to avoid the typical errors that can turn the bracelet into a βbrickβ, and what to do if the Mi Band 4 does not respond to commands.
Important: the reset procedure deletes all the data β steps, pulse, alarm settings and notifications. If the bracelet is still working, first make a backup through the app.
1.Resetting preparation: what to do before the start
Before you drop the Mi Band 4, take a few critical steps to save you from data loss and re-assignment issues.
- π± Update the app (Mi Fit or Zepp Life) to the latest version. Older versions may not support reset for Mi Band 4.
- π Charge the bracelet to at least 50%. With a low charge, the reset may be interrupted, which will lead to loss of communication with the Bluetooth module.
- π Write down your current settings: screen order, notification priority, sleep settings, and you'll have to reset them.
- π Untie the bracelet from your account (if you plan to sell), this can be done in the device settings in the app.
If you're dropping the bracelet because of constant hanging, try reloading it first.
- Connect the Mi Band 4 to the charger.
- Wait for the vibration (start charging signal).
- Press and hold the touch button under the screen for 10-15 seconds until the bracelet reboots.
β οΈ Warning: If the bracelet does not respond to the touch of the screen, do not try to reset it through the app - this can lead to a synchronization error.
2. Backup of data before resetting
Resetting to factory settings completely erases all data from the bracelet, including:
- π Activity statistics (steps, calories, distance).
- β€οΈ Data on pulse and blood oxygen levels (SpOβ).
- π Sleep history and sleep phases.
- β° Alerts and reminders settings.
To retain this information:
- Open the Mi Fit or Zepp Life app.
- Go to the Bracelet Profile (Profile) β Mi Smart Band 4).
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select Data Export.
- Select the period (e.g. Last month) and format (usually) CSV or Excel).
- Save the file to your phone or to the cloud (iCloud, Google Drive).
If exports are not available, take screenshots of key statistics screens.
- π Weekly report on steps.
- π€ Sleep schedules for the last 7 days.
- β€οΈ Average pulse rates.
β οΈ Note: Training data (running, cycling) is stored in the Xiaomi cloud and is not deleted when the bracelet is reset.
π‘
If youβre using Zepp Life, check if sync is enabled with Google Fit or Apple Health, which will allow you to recover some of the data after the reset.
3. Method 1: Reset via Mi Fit or Zepp Life
This is the safest and most recommended way if the bracelet works properly and synchronizes with the smartphone.
Instructions for Mi Fit:
- Open the app and connect to the bracelet.
- Go to Profile. β Mi Smart Band 4.
- Scroll down and select Disable the device.

- Get in the Devices. β Mi Band 4.
- Click on the gear icon (Settings) in the upper right corner.
- Select Untie the device.
- Confirm the action and wait for the reset.
Once untie, the bracelet will automatically reset, and you will see the Xiaomi logo on the Mi Band 4 screen and an offer to connect to the new device.

|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Fit | Profile β Mi Band 4 β Disable the device | 10-20 seconds | Yes. |
| Zepp Life | Devices β Mi Band 4 β Settings β Untie. | 5-15 seconds | Yes. |
| Notify & Fitness (side) | The device β Additionally. β Reset | 15-30 seconds | No (sometimes) |
β οΈ Warning: If the bracelet doesnβt appear in the list of available devices to connect after reset, reboot Bluetooth on your phone or try connecting from another smartphone.
1. Update the application to the latest version
2. Charged the bracelet by at least 50%
3. Exported data (if necessary)
4. disconnected the bracelet from the account (if I sell)
5.Made sure the phone sees Mi Band 4 in Bluetooth-->
Method 2: Hardware reset via button (if bracelet does not respond)
If the Mi Band 4 is getting stuck, not turning on or not syncing, use a forced reset via a physical button, which works even if the screen is not responsive to touch.
Step-by-step:
- Remove the bracelet from your hand and place it on a flat surface.
- Find the touch button below the screen (not to be confused with the charging connector!).
- Press and hold the button for 20 to 30 seconds until the Xiaomi logo appears on the screen.
- Release the button. The bracelet vibrates and starts the reset process (it will take a while). ~1 minute).
- After the reboot, a Chinese/English greeting will appear on the screen, which means that the reset was successful.
If the bracelet does not vibrate or react:
- π Try plugging it into charging for 5-10 minutes, then repeat the procedure.
- π Check if the bracelet has been in water (if the bracelet has been in the water).
- π± Make sure there are no Bluetooth interference sources nearby (microwaves, other gadgets).
Video instructions (if not):
If the text instructions are unclear, check out the official video from Xiaomi (available on YouTube).
What to do if the button does not work?
5. Method 3: Resetting through charger (hidden method)
Few people know, but the Mi Band 4 can be reset by manipulating the charging cable.
- π The bracelet is getting stuck on the Xiaomi logo.
- π« Does not respond to the button and touch.
- π΅ Not defined by the annex.
Instructions:
- Connect the bracelet to charge (use the original cable!).
- Wait for the vibration (start charging signal).
- Turn off the cable for 2 seconds and reconnect.
- Repeat the disconnection / connection 5 times in a row (with an interval of 2 seconds).
- For the 5th time, hold the bracelet on charge for 10 seconds - a white screen with the inscription Reset should appear.
- Let go. The bracelet vibrates and starts resetting.
This method works by activating the service mode through a power interruption. If after 5 attempts nothing happens, try another cable or USB-port.
β οΈ Warning: Do not use non-original chargers - they can damage the battery. Also do not interrupt the reset process, otherwise the bracelet may stop turning on.
π‘
Resetting via charging is the only way to bring the Mi Band 4 back to life if it doesnβt respond fully to buttons and the app, however, this method doesnβt guarantee 100% success if the problem is in hardware (such as a burnt-out controller).
6. Method 4: Reset via engineering menu (for advanced)
If standard methods don't work, you can try to reset the bracelet through a hidden engineering menu, which requires accuracy, because improper actions can lead to loss of communication with the Bluetooth module.
How to open the engineering menu:
- On the Mi Band 4 home screen, swipe up to open the menu.
- Find the Settings icon (cog) and tap it.
- Scroll to About Device and press it 5 times in a row.
- A hidden menu will appear with the words Debug or Engineer Mode.
How to reset your settings:
- In the engineering menu, find Reset or Factory Reset.
- Confirm the action (usually press and hold the screen for 3 seconds).
- The bracelet will reset and return to factory settings.
If there is no Reset option in the menu, try:
- π Find Clear Data or Erase All.
- π§ Select Restore Defaults.
Warning: There are options on the engineering menu that can permanently disable Bluetooth or erase firmware.Do not change settings unless you are sure of their purpose!
π‘
If the bracelet stopped connecting to your phone after resetting through the engineering menu, try resetting Bluetooth settings on your smartphone or using another phone for initial binding.
7. Method 5: Reset via third-party applications (alternative)
If the official methods did not work, you can use third-party applications, for example:
- π± Notify & Fitness for Mi Band (Android).
- π± Mi Bandage (Android).
- π± Amazfit Toolbox (for advanced users).
Instructions for Notify & Fitness:
- Install the app from Google Play.
- Connect Mi Band 4 via the Connect Device menu.
- Go to Settings β Additional β Reset to factory.
- Confirm the action and wait for the completion.
Advantages of third-party applications:
- β They work even if the official software does not see the bracelet.
- β Offer advanced settings (for example, changing fonts).
- β You can reset certain parameters (for example, only alarm clocks).
Risks:
- β οΈ Possible synchronization errors.
- β οΈ Some features may require root rights on the phone.
- β οΈ Applications may contain advertising or paid features.
β οΈ Warning: Before using third-party applications, disable official software (Mi Fit or Zepp Life) to avoid connection conflicts.
8.What to do if the discharge did not help?
If the Mi Band 4 still doesnβt work after reset, check out the following points:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The bracelet is off. | Battery discharged | Connect to charging for 2-3 hours |

| Constantly rebooting. | Firmware damaged. | Update the software via Mi Fit or manually re-flash |
| Not vibrating. | Vibrator engine is out of order. | Check in the settings (Vibration) β Test) |
If the bracelet does not show signs of life:
- Check the charging cable and port on the bracelet (possibly contact oxidation).
- Connect to another power source (e.g., power bank).
- If nothing helps, contact the Xiaomi service center.
The cost of repairing the Mi Band 4 (2026)
- π§ Battery replacement: ~1 500β2 500 β½.
- π§ Sensor repairs: ~2 000β3 000 β½.
- π§ Flip-flashing: ~1 000β1 500 β½.
In most cases, repairing the Mi Band 4 is not economically feasible β it is cheaper to buy a new bracelet (such as the Mi Band 7 or Mi Band 8).However, if the device has sentimental value or unique features (such as Always-on Display), the repair can pay off.
