Why would you want to reset the Mi Band 4?
The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 smartwatch, despite its reliability, sometimes requires a complete system reboot, which can be due to an interface freeze, sync errors with the phone or preparation for sale. Resetting to factory settings deletes all user data: steps, training, alarm clocks and binding to the Mi Account.
Most often, owners face the need to reset in three cases:
- π The watch stopped syncing with the smartphone after updating the firmware
- π« The screen does not respond to touches or buttons despite a charged battery.
- π± Transfer of the device to another user is planned
It's important to understand that resetting is a last resort, and 80 percent of the time, it's either rebooting the device (holding the 10 seconds button) or reinstalling the Mi Fit/Zepp Life app, and if those methods don't work, start resetting completely.
Method 1: Reset via mobile application (recommended)
The safest method is to use an official app, which is suitable if the watch still somehow responds to commands and is connected to a smartphone.
- Open the Mi Fit or Zepp Life app (depending on the firmware version)
- Go to the Profile section β Mi Smart Band 4
- Select Untie the device or Remove the bracelet
- Confirm the action - the system will offer to reset the settings to the factory
It takes 1-2 minutes. Once completed, the watch will automatically reset and show the greeting screen, as after the purchase. Important: before unloading, make sure that the data is synced with the cloud, otherwise the activity history will be lost forever.
Synchronize data with the cloud
Charge the bracelet by at least 50%
Ensure a stable Internet connection
Remember the password from Mi Account (required to re-assign)
-->
β οΈ Note: If the clock is not determined by the phone after reset, try it:
- π± Reinstall the Mi app Fit/Zepp Life
- π Reboot your smartphone
- πΆ Turn Bluetooth on/off
Method 2: Hardware reset via button (if the clock doesn't respond)
When the Mi Band 4 screen is not responding to touch and sync with the phone is not possible, there is only a physical reset.
- Remove the bracelet capsule from the strap
- Find the touch button on the back (under the charging contacts)
- Connect the watch to the charger
- Hold the button for 15-20 seconds until the vibration and the Mi logo appear.
If the clock does not turn on after that:
- π Check the cable and power supply (use the original adapter) 5V/1A)
- β±οΈ Wait 10 minutes β sometimes after a deep discharge it takes time to initialize
- π Repeat the procedure. 2-3 once
What to do if the button does not work?
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The clock is not turned on after resetting | Deep battery discharge | Charge 1-2 hours, then repeat the reset |
| The screen flashes and goes out. | Damage to the display plume | Service repairs |
| Not defined in Mi Fit | Conflict of firmware versions | Update the app and firmware of the clock |
| Vibration without touch response | Touchscreen failure | Hardware reset + flashing |
Method 3: Reset via engineering menu (for advanced)
This method requires access to hidden settings and is suitable for power users, and can help if standard methods donβt work, but there is a risk of completely locking the device if you do not do it properly.
Instructions:
- Hold the button for 5 seconds until the menu appears.
- Scroll to Factory Reset (use swipes)
- Confirm the choice by pressing the button
- Wait for the reboot (can take up to 5 minutes)
If the engineering menu does not open:
- π΄ Check the firmware version (on older versions of the menu may not be available)
- π Try to update the software via Mi Fit before resetting
π‘
Before using the engineering menu, back up your data via the Mi Fit app β Bracelet settings β Backup. This will save a history of sleep and activity that can be restored after the reset.
What to do after resetting: setting up from scratch
After a successful reset of the Mi Band 4, you will need to reconfigure the process, identical to the initial activation.
- Install Mi Fit or Zepp Life (for firmware after 2021)
- Create a Xiaomi account or sign in to an existing one
- In the Add Device section, select Mi Smart Band 4.
- Follow the instructions on the screen for pairing over Bluetooth
Pay particular attention to:
- π Application permissions (access to notifications, location)
- πΆ Internet connection stability during synchronization
- π Bracelet charge level (minimum 30%)
π‘
Once reset, all previous notification, alarm and activity profile settings will be deleted and reset via the app.
Common mistakes and their solutions
Even after a successful reset, users often face problems, and here are the most common ones and ways to fix them:
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Cannot be linked to the account | Xiaomi servers are not available | Check VPN/proxy or wait 1-2 hours |
| The bracelet shuts down in 5 minutes. | Heart rate sensor failure | Turn off heart rate monitoring in settings |
| Not showing notices | There are no permissions for the application | Reinstall Mi Fit and give all permissions |
If the clock starts to discharge faster than usual after reset, this may indicate:
- π Battery wear (typical after 2)+ years)
- π± Conflict with the background processes of the smartphone
- π Incomplete reset (repeat the procedure)
β οΈ Note: If the Mi Band 4 stopped vibrating when notified after reset, check: In-app profile settings (Notifications) β Vibration) Do not disturb mode on the bracelet (screen retention 3 seconds) Physical state of the motor (when falling, it can move away from the contacts)
How to save data before resetting
Many users are unaware that the activity history can be saved even after a complete reset.
- Open Mi Fit and wait for full data synchronization
- Go to Profile β Settings β Export data
- Select the format (CSV or JSON) and save the file to the device
- After reset, import data through Settings β Import
Please note:
- π Only activity data (steps, sleep, training) are exported)
- β° Alarms and screen settings will not be saved
- π± Importing will require the same Xiaomi account to which the bracelet was tied.
π‘
If you plan to sell the bracelet, untie it from your account via Mi Fit β Device Profile β Untie before resetting. This will save the new owner from problems with binding.
