Xiaomi AirDots are some of the most popular wireless headsets, thanks to a combination of price, sound quality and convenience. However, even with such a technique, sometimes there are problems: headphones refuse to connect to a new smartphone, do not sync with each other or βforgetβ the previous device. If you encounter this situation, do not rush to carry the headset to the service center, in 90% of cases, the problem can be solved by yourself in 5-10 minutes.
In this article, we will look at all possible scenarios, from basic reconnection to another phone to resetting settings and fixing rare bugs. Instructions are suitable for all models of the series β AirDots Basic, AirDots Pro 2/2S, AirDots 3/3 Pro, as well as for Redmi AirDots and Haylou (which are often confused with the original Xiaomi headphones).
1.When do I need to reconnect AirDots?
Reconnecting the headphones is not always necessary, but here are the typical situations in which this procedure is necessary:
- π± Change your smartphone β you bought a new phone (even of the same brand) and want to use AirDots with it.
- π Resetting phone settings β after returning to factory settings, the device βforgetsβ all paired gadgets, including headphones.
- π§ Synchronization problems β headphones are connected separately but do not work in pairs (for example, sound is only in one).
- π₯οΈ PC/laptop connection β AirDots may not be defined as a headset for calls to Zoom or Discord.
- π Discharge headphones βto zeroβ β after a deep discharge, some models reset the connection settings.
If the headphones simply do not connect to the already paired device, first check:
- π Is Bluetooth enabled on your phone/laptop.
- π Headphone charge level (the indicator on the case should burn white or green).
- πΆ Distance to device (maximum 10 meters without obstacles).
2. Basic reconnection to another device
If the Xiaomi AirDots headphones have already been paired with another gadget, they must first be βuntieβ from the previous device.
- Turn off your old device: On Android: Go to Settings β Bluetooth, find AirDots in the list, and click βForget Deviceβ (or βDisableβ). On iPhone: Settings β Bluetooth β icon βiβ next to the headphones β βForget this device.β
- Return the headphones to the case and close it for 10 seconds β this will reset the current connection.
- Activate mating mode: Pull both headphones out of the case. On AirDots Pro 2/3 and Redmi AirDots 3, pairing starts automatically. For older versions (AirDots Basic, Pro 1), press the button on the case for 5-7 seconds until the indicator flashes red and white alternately.
- Connect to your new device: On your phone, turn on Bluetooth, search the Mi AirDots Basic (or your model) list, and confirm your connection. On Windows 10/11, you may need to select Headset instead of Dynamics for the microphone to work properly.
βοΈ Preparation for reconnection
Important! On AirDots 3 Pro and Redmi AirDots 3 Pro models, you may need to update your firmware through the Mi Home app after a reset (see section 5).
3. Reset AirDots settings to factory
If the headphones don't connect even after a basic reset, you'll have to return them to the factory settings, which removes all the paired devices and resets the audio settings.
Instructions for all models (except AirDots 3/Pro):
- Put both headphones in the case and close it.
- Open the case cover and press the pairing button (on the back) for 15-20 seconds until the indicator starts flashing red 3 times in a row.
- Close the case, wait 10 seconds and reconnect (see section 2).
For AirDots 3/3 Pro and Redmi AirDots 3:
- Get the headphones out of the case.
- Press and hold the touchpads on both headphones simultaneously for 10 seconds until you hear the reset beep.
- Return the headphones to the case, close it and wait for the automatic restart (the indicator blinks white).
β οΈ Attention! After reset, AirDots 3 Pro headphones may require a firmware update. If they don't connect to the phone, install the Mi Home app and check for updates in the Profile section β My devices. β Headphones.
| Model | Resetting method | Sign of successful discharge |
|---|---|---|
| AirDots Basic, Pro 1/2 | The button on the case (15-20 seconds) | Red indicator flashes 3 times |
| AirDots 3, 3 Pro | Sensors on both headphones (10 seconds) | Sound signal + white indicator |
| Redmi AirDots 2/3 | Case button (10 seconds) | Blinks red and white alternately |
| Haylou GT1/GT2 | Case button (8 seconds) | The indicator goes out and lights up again. |
4. Solving problems with headphone synchronization
A common problem after reconnection is that the headphones connect separately, but do not work in pairs.
Reason 1: Headphones are not synchronized with each other
- π Return both earphones to the case and close it for 30 seconds.
- π§ Pull them out and wait for automatic synchronization (the indicators on the headphones should flash at the same time).
- π± If there is no synchronization, reset the settings (see Section 3) and reconnect.
Reason 2: One earphone is broken or broken
- π Check the charge of each headphone in the Mi Home app (Battery Status section).
- π οΈ Clean contacts on headphones and in the case with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol.
- π If one earphone does not make sounds, try to connect it separately (see spoiler below).
How to connect one headphone separately?
Reason 3: Firmware problems
On AirDots Pro 2 and later, the settings sometimes get lost after the update.
- Remove the headphones from the list of Bluetooth devices.
- Drop them (Section 3).
- Connect through the Mi Home application, wait for the suggestion to update the firmware and confirm.
1. Activate Developer Mode (7 times click on the Build Number in Settings β About Phone).
2. Go to Settings. β System system β For developers and disable Bluetooth Audio Codec (select) SBC instead AAC).-->
5. Connect AirDots to PC (Windows/macOS)
Xiaomi AirDots headphones can work with computers, but there are nuances:
For Windows 10/11:
- Turn on Bluetooth on your PC (via Control Panel or Settings β Devices).
- Activate the mating mode on the headphones (see section 2).
- In the list of devices, select Mi AirDots and click βConnectβ.
- Important! After connecting, go to Control Panel β Sound, select your headphones and set them as Default Device.
For macOS:
- Open System settings β Bluetooth.
- Click "Connect" next to AirDots in the list.
- If the sound is only in one headphone, open the Audio MIDI Setup (via Spotlight) and select Stereo mode.
β οΈ Attention! On Windows, headphones can be defined as "Phone" instead of "Headset", which causes the microphone to fail. To fix: 1. Go to Device Manager (Win) + X β Device Manager). 2. Find AirDots under "Sound Devices." 3. Update the driver manually by selecting "Bluetooth General DriverΒ».
π‘
On a Windows PC, for the correct operation of the microphone in Discord/Zoom, you need to manually select AirDots as an input device in the application settings.
6. Frequent errors and their solutions
Even after resetting and reconnecting, there can be problems.
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The headphones are plugged in, but there's no sound. | No "Hearthpiece" profile selected | In Windows/macOS audio settings, install AirDots as the default device |
| One earpiece is quieter than the other | Dynamic pollution or different charge levels | Clean the speaker mesh with a toothpick; charge both earbuds to 100% |
| The headphones are turned off in 5-10 seconds | Power saving mode on the phone is activated | Turn off Bluetooth battery optimization in Android settings |
| The microphone in the bells is not working. | Headphones are connected as βDynamicβ, not βHearthsetβ. | Reconnect them and select the Headset profile in the sound settings |
If nothing helps:
- π Check the headphones on another device (like a friend's phone).
- π¦ Make sure the case is charged (the indicator should be green when connected to the charger).
- π§ Update your firmware through Mi Home (even if the app doesnβt show updates).
7. How to avoid problems in the future
To avoid having to constantly reconnect AirDots, follow these tips:
- π Do not discharge headphones "to zero" - put them in a case at a charge level below 20%.
- π΅ Turn off Bluetooth on your phone if you donβt use headphones β this will prevent accidental connection breaks.
- π§Ό Clean contacts regularly on headphones and in the case (once every 2-3 weeks).
- π± Do not connect AirDots to multiple devices at the same time β it can knock down settings.
If you switch between devices frequently (like your phone and laptop), use Quick Switch (available on AirDots 3 Pro and later):
- Connect the headphones to the first device.
- Turn on Bluetooth on the second device and select AirDots from the list.
- Press and hold the touch panel on the right earphone for 2 seconds - an automatic switch will occur.
