Xiaomiβs smartwatches and fitness bracelets are tightly integrated with mobile devices through the Mi Fitness app (formerly Mi Fit). This link allows you to synchronize health data, notifications and settings, but sometimes users need to break it β for example, when selling a watch, changing a phone or fixing sync errors. Unlike simply removing an app, completely untying a watch from a Xiaomi account requires several steps to be taken, otherwise the device may remain tied to an old phone or account.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to unblock the device for different models β from Mi Band 3 to Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro, including cases when the phone is lost, broken or the app does not see the watch, and you will learn how to avoid common mistakes, such as locking the device after a reset without detachment from the account, and what to do if the watch requires re-authorization.
1. Untie Xiaomi watches through the Mi Fitness app (main method)
This is the most reliable and recommended method that works for most models: Mi Band 4/5/6/7/8, Xiaomi Watch S1/S2, Watch 2 Pro and others. The main condition is that you must have access to the phone to which the watch is tied, and the Mi Fitness app with an authorized Xiaomi account.
Step-by-step:
- π± Open the Mi Fitness app on your phone.
- π Go to the Profile section β My devices (or devices in older versions).
- βοΈ Click on the gear icon (βοΈ) near the name of your watch.
- ποΈ Select Delete Device (or Untie).
- β Confirm the action β the watch will be deleted from the account.
After that, the device will automatically perform a soft reset and be ready for a new binding. If you plan to sell or transfer the watch to another person, it is recommended to additionally perform a full reset (more about this in the next section).

β οΈ Note: If the watch stops turning on or gives a Device locked error, it means that they were tied to the Xiaomi account through the Mi Cloud Lock function.
2. reset Xiaomi watches to factory settings (hard reset)
If you don't have access to a phone that's tied to your watch, or if the Mi Fitness app can't see the device, you can do a full reset directly on your watch, which is suitable for all models, but has nuances:
- π On the Mi Band. 3/4/5/6 Reset is performed through the settings menu.
- π₯οΈ On the Xiaomi Watch S1/S2 watch 2 Pro β through a combination of buttons.
- β οΈ After the reset, the watch will not be detached from the Xiaomi account unless you do it in advance through Mi Fitness!
Instructions for Mi Band 3/4/5/6/7/8:
- Scroll through the watch screen to Additional (or More)
- Select Settings β Reset (or Reset).
- Confirm the action by clicking the tick (β ).
Instructions for Xiaomi Watch S1/S2/Watch 2 Pro:
- Press the physical button on the body for 10-15 seconds.
- Wait for the Xiaomi logo to come along and the vibration.
- Release the button and the watch will reset.
| Model clock | Resetting method | Is there a need for a Mi Fitness? |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Band 3/4/5 | Through the Settings menu β Reset | Yes, if the watch is tied to the account |
| Mi Band 6/7/8 | Through the menu Additional β Reset | Yeah, for the full slug. |
| Xiaomi Watch S1/S2 | Hold the button for 10 seconds. | Yeah, otherwise, lockdown. |
| Watch 2 Pro | Press the button before vibration | Yes, if there was Mi Cloud Lock. |

If the watch requests a password from the Xiaomi account after the reset, it means that they were blocked through the Mi Cloud Lock, in which case you will need to enter the account information to which they were associated, or contact Xiaomi with proof of purchase.
3. Uncoupling via the web version of Mi Account (if the phone is lost)
If you donβt have access to your phone, but you remember the Xiaomi account data that the watch is attached to, you can try removing the device via the Mi Account web interface. This method doesnβt work for all models, but it can help with the Mi Band 6/7/8 and Xiaomi Watch.
Instructions:
- Go to account.xiaomi.com and log in.
- In the Devices (or Connected Devices) section, find your watch.
- Click on the basket icon (ποΈ) or Delete.
- Confirm the action via SMS or email.
If the watch is not in the list of devices, then they are only tied to the Mi Fitness application, and you can only delete them through it (see the first section).
What if the Mi Account web version doesnβt show the watch?
4. Untie Xiaomi Watches via Another Phone
If the original phone that the watch is tied to is unavailable (broken, lost, sold), but you have access to a Xiaomi account, you can use another smartphone to unbundle.
- Install the Mi Fitness app on your new phone.
- Sign in with the same Xiaomi account that your watch is linked to.
- Connect your watch to your new phone via Bluetooth.
- Go to Profile. β My devices and remove the watch.
If the watch is not connected to the new phone, reset the settings on it (section 2) and try again. In some cases, you may need to update the firmware through Mi Fitness before unsetting.

5. Solving problems after decoupling
Sometimes, after the clock is set off, errors occur that prevent it from being used again, and here are the most common problems and ways to solve them:
- π Watch locked (Mi Cloud Lock): If the watch requires a password from Xiaomi account after reset, it means that it was tied through Mi Cloud Lock. Solutions: Enter the account to which the watch was tied. If you do not remember the password, restore it through account.xiaomi.com. Contact Xiaomi with a check to buy (it may take 1-2 weeks to unlock).
- π Watches don't sync with new phone: Try: Update the Mi Fitness app to the latest version; reboot the phone and watch; remove the watch from the phone's Bluetooth device list and reconnect.
- β‘ Watch discharges quickly after estrangement: Calibrate battery: completely discharge the watch, then charge to 100% without interruptions.
β οΈ Note: If you buy a used Xiaomi watch, always check if it is untied from the previous owner. Otherwise, you may get a locked device that requires a support request with proof of purchase.
6. Untiring Xiaomi watches without an account (extreme case)
If you don't have access to either your phone or your Xiaomi account, which is the watch, there's only one option left: hardware reset, but this method doesn't guarantee complete detachment from the Mi Cloud Lock and can lock the device. Use it only as a last resort!
For Mi Band 3/4/5/6/7/8:
- Connect the watch to charge.
- Press and hold the touch button (on Mi Band 3/4) or swipe up/down 5 times in a row (on Mi Band 5/6/7/8).
- Wait for the reset menu to appear and confirm the action.
For the Xiaomi Watch S1/S2/Watch 2 Pro:
- Press the physical button for 20-30 seconds.
- After vibration release the button and the clock will reset.
If the watch requires authorization after reset and you do not have account information, contact the Xiaomi service center with a document confirming the purchase. In some cases, the seller can help (if the watch was recently purchased).

Hardware reset doesn't remove the binding to your Xiaomi account! it only clears up local data. Make sure to use Mi Fitness or the web version of Mi Account to fully untie.
