Xiaomi TVs with Android TV or MIUI TV automatically sync time over the Internet, but sometimes users face problems: incorrect display of the date, the wrong hours after the update or lack of synchronization. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to adjust time, from manual installation to solving typical errors.
The Xiaomi Mi TV, Redmi Smart TV and Xiaomi TV A Pro are all about using Google time servers or Mi servers to automatically adjust. If your TV is showing the wrong time, it doesn't always mean a breakdown β most often the problem lies in network settings or regional settings. We'll take a closer look at each step, including hidden options for power users.
Why is Xiaomi TV running out of time?
Before you start setting up, it is important to understand the cause of the failure, most often the problem is due to one of the following factors:
- π No Internet connection β without a network, the TV cannot sync with the Internet NTP-Network Time Protocol (Network Time Protocol).
- β³ Incorrect time zone β even when synchronized, time may not be displayed correctly if the wrong region is selected.
- π Resetting settings β after updating the firmware or resetting to factory settings, the watch can reset.
- π οΈ Software bugs β firmware bugs (especially on Mi models) TV 4A mi TV 4S 2018β2020) sometimes lead to a permanent time reset.
- π Power outage β if the TV is completely powered down (e.g. when moving), internal battery CMOS may discharge.
On Xiaomi TV Q2 and later, the time problem is less common due to improved synchronization, but even these are not immune to failures in unstable Internet. If your TV is connected to the network, but time is still confused, check your DNS settings - sometimes changing servers helps (for example, on Google DNS 8.8.8.8).
Method 1: Automatic time synchronization via the Internet
This is the easiest and most recommended method. The TV will pull up the actual time from the servers of Google or Xiaomi if:
- The device is connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
- Automatic synchronization function is enabled.
- The right time zone is chosen.
To enable automatic synchronization:
- Open Settings (cog in the upper right corner of the main screen).
- Go to System and Updates β Date and Time.
- Activate the Autosynchronization Date and Time Switch.
- Make sure your region is listed in the Time Zone field (e.g. Moscow, GMT+3).
If Auto Sync is not available, your TV model (Mi TV 3S, Mi TV 4 early versions) uses a stripped-down firmware, in which case you will have to update the software or adjust the time manually (see next section).
π‘
If after turning on autosynchronization time still does not update, try to restart the TV: press the power button on the remote for 5-7 seconds until the reboot menu appears.
Method 2: Manually set date and time
If automatic sync doesnβt work or you need to set a different time temporarily (for example, to test apps), use manual mode. Note: after manual setting, the TV wonβt automatically update the time until you turn on sync again.
Instructions for manual installation:
- Go to Settings β System and Updates β Date and Time.
- Turn off the Autosynchronization option for date and time.
- Click on the Set a date and select the current date in the calendar.
- Click on Set time and enter current time using the digital keyboard.
- Check the time zone β when manually set up, it can reset to GMT+0.
On some models (Redmi Smart TV X, Xiaomi TV A2), a notification may appear after manually setting the time: "Time is not synced with Google servers." This can be ignored, but remember that without synchronization, time will be lost every time the power goes off.
Check your internet connection (even if the setting is manual)
Record the current time on your phone for accuracy
Make sure your time zone is appropriate for your region
Disable autosynchronization before manual input-->
Method 3: Sync through your Mi Account
Xiaomi TVs with MIUI TV firmware (e.g. Mi TV 5 Pro, Xiaomi TV Q1E) support time synchronization through your Mi Account. This method is useful if standard autosynchronization does not work, but the TV is connected to your account.
To enable synchronization through Mi Account:
- Open Settings β Accounts and Security β Mi Account.
- Make sure you are logged in (if not, log in).
- Return to Date and Time and enable the Sync with Mi Account option (if available).
- Restart the TV (Settings β About TV β Reboot).
This method doesn't work on all models, it's only available on TVs with MIUI TV 3.0 and later. If the option isn't on the menu, then your firmware doesn't support it.
What if synchronization through Mi Account does not work?
Method 4: Alternative synchronization methods (for power users)
If standard methods don't work, you can try more advanced solutions, which require access to developer mode or third-party tools.
1.Amendment NTP-manually
Xiaomi TVs default to time.google.com or ntp.miui.com servers. If they are not available, you can specify an alternative. NTP-server:
Settings β System β For developers β Selection of NTP-server
Enter: pool.ntp.org or en.pool.ntp.org (for Russia)Resetting the cache of the watch app
Sometimes a time failure is due to a system application error to reset its cache:
- Activate the developer mode (click 7 times on the Software version in Settings β About TV).
- Go to Settings β System β For Developers β Application Management.
- Find the Watch (or Clock) app and select Clear Cache.
3.Use of ADB-team
For advanced users: if the TV is connected to the PC by ADB, you can force the time to update the command:
adb shell date -s YYYYMMDD.HHmmss
Example: adb shell date -s 20260515.143000 (set May 15, 2026, 14:30:00)On Xiaomi models TV with an Amlogic processor (e.g., Mi) TV 4A) post-discharge CMOS-The battery time can be lost even when the synchronization is enabled, in which case you need to change the battery on the motherboard (contact the service center).

If none of the methods did not help, check the stability of the Internet connection: ping to time.google.com should be no more than 100 ms.
Solving problems: the clock goes off after switching off
One of the most common complaints users have is the time-reset every time they disconnect their TV. CMOS-A battery that powers a real-time internal clock (RTC). If the battery is discharged, the TV "forgets" the time when it is turned off.
How to check and fix the problem:
- Power leak test: Turn off the TV for 10 to 15 minutes, then turn it on. If time goes wrong, the battery is dead.
- Temporary solution: Turn on Quick Start (Settings β Energy Saving β Quick Start) in this mode, the TV does not shut down completely, but consumes minimal power to maintain RTC.
- The radical solution: a replacement CMOS-Battery (requires disassembly of the TV) Most Xiaomi models use a battery CR2032.
On Xiaomi TV P1 and Q2, CMOS is less common due to the improved power scheme. If your model is older than 2021 and time is knocked down regularly, you will likely need a battery replacement.
π‘
To extend life CMOS-In the battery, avoid completely turning off the TV. Use a network filter with a switch off button or a smart socket that does not break the power chain.
Table: Compatibility of methods with Xiaomi TV models
| Model TV set | Autosynchronization | Manual setting | Synchronization through Mi Account | Replacement CMOS-battery |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mi TV 3/3S (2016β2017) | β (renewal) | β | β | β (CR2026) |
| Mi TV 4/4A/4S (2018β2020) | β | β | β | β (CR2032) |
| Redmi Smart TV X (2021) | β | β | β (MIUI TV 3.0+) | β οΈ (lessen) |
| Xiaomi TV Q2/Q1E (2022β2023) | β | β | β | β (battery-in) |
| Xiaomi TV A2/A Pro (2023β2026) | β (improved servers) | β | β | β |
If your model is not listed in the table, focus on the year of release: Xiaomi TVs until 2020 often require replacement CMOS-Battery, while newer models (Q-series, A-series) are less likely to face this problem due to hardware improvements.
