How to turn off the pulse from the lock screen on Xiaomi: all ways

The red dot rhythmically pulsating on Xiaomi’s lock screen irritates many users — especially at night when the bright indicator distracts from sleep.This animation (officially called Heartbeat or Pulse Notification) signals new notifications, but not everyone needs it. Fortunately, it can be turned off in several ways, both through standard MIUI settings, and using hidden features or third-party tools.

The problem is that Xiaomi regularly changes the location of options in the firmware, and in some versions of MIUI (for example, MIUI 13 for Redmi Note 11) the pulse is hidden in the depths of the system settings. We tested all the current methods on devices in 2022-2026 and collected them in this manual.

Why does the pulse appear on the lock screen?

Pulse animation is part of MIUI's signature identity, designed to visually highlight active notifications, and it appears in three cases:

• 📱 New notifications from messengers (WhatsApp, Telegram) or system alerts.
• 🔔 Missed calls – even if you ignore them, your pulse will blink before you see them.
• 🔄 Background processes (for example, downloading files or updating applications).

On devices with AMOLED-screens (for example, Xiaomi 13 Pro or Poco) F5) The pulse can speed up battery discharge because it constantly illuminates the pixels. MIUI 14 developers added a disable option, but in older versions (for example, MIUI 12.5 for Redmi 9) it is not - you will have to use workarounds.

Method 1: Disable via notification settings (MIUI 13–14)

The simplest method is to work on most modern Xiaomi devices without root rights. The instructions are relevant for MIUI 13 and later (including HyperOS):

1. Open Settings → Notifications and Status bar.
2. Scroll down to the Lock Screen section and tap it.
3. Find the option “Pulsing Notifications Indicator” (or “Heartbeat Effect” in English firmware).
4. Move the slider to the off position.

If you don’t have an option in your MIUI version, try an alternative path:

1. Go to Settings → Display.
2. Select the Lock Screen → Additional settings.
3. Look for notification animation or blocking effects.

⚠️ Note: On some devices (e.g. Poco) X3 Pro MIUI 12.5) the option is hidden behind experimental functions. To see it, you may need to reset the lock screen settings (see method 4).

Method 2: Use of the ADB-Teams (for experienced users)

If you don’t have a direct switch, you can turn off your pulse via Android Debug Bridge (ADB), which works on all versions of MIUI, but requires a computer connection.

You'll need:

• 💻 Computer with installed Xiaomi and ADB-tools drivers.
• 📱 Included Debugging by USB on a smartphone (Settings) → The phone. → Version. MIUI → 7 times to tap according to the version → return to additional settings → For developers).
• 🔌 USB-cable (preferably original).

Steps:

1. Connect your phone to your PC and open the command prompt (cmd in Windows or Terminal on macOS/Linux).
2. Enter the command to check the connection: Adb devices must appear serial number of your device.
3. Execute the pulse shutdown command: adb shell settings put global lockscreen_pulse_enabled 0
4. Reboot your phone (adb reboot).

If the pulse returns after the restart, try an alternative command:

adb shell settings put secure lock_screen_show_notifications 0

It disables all notifications on the lock screen, but it is guaranteed to remove the animation.

Method 3: Disconnect via Hidden Menu (for MIUI 12 and older)

In MIUI 12 and earlier, the option to turn off the pulse is hidden in the test menu.

1. Open the phone app and enter the code: ##4636##
2. In the menu that appears, select Phone Information (or Phone Information).
3. Scroll down to the Settings section. UI (UI Settings).
4. Find the Lockscreen Pulse option and turn it off.

If the code is not in your firmware, try an alternative:

1. Install the QuickShortcutMaker app.
2. In the search, type in Lockscreen.
3. Find the activity com.android.settings.LockScreenSettings and run it.
4. In the menu that opens, look for options related to Pulse or Notification Effects.

⚠️ Warning: Changing hidden settings may cause the lock screen to function unstable. If the phone starts to brake or not react to unlock after the changes, reset the screen settings (see method 4).

Method 4: Reset the lock screen settings

If previous methods didn't work, you can reset the lock screen settings to factory settings, and that won't delete your data, but it will return all the notification display settings to default.

Instructions:

1. Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
2. Slip on the three points in the upper right corner and select Show System.
3. Find the Settings app (com.android.settings) and open it.
4. Select Warehouse. → Clear the data.
5. Confirm the action and restart the phone.

After the reboot:

• 🔄 The pulse should disappear, but all lock screen settings will reset (including wallpaper, watch style, etc.).
• 📌 If the pulse returned, it means that it is rigidly spelled out in the firmware - try method 5.

💡

Before reset, take screenshots of the current lock screen settings (wallpaper, watch style, app shortcuts) to quickly restore them after the procedure.

Method 5: Remove system APK (root only)

If you have root rights, you can completely remove the system app that controls your heart rate, which is irreversible and can cause your firmware to run unstable if you do something wrong.

Instructions:

1. Install a file manager with root support (such as Root Explorer).
2. Go to /system/priv-app/MiuiSystemUI/
3. Find the MiuiSystemUI.apk file and back it up (copy it elsewhere).
4. Delete or rename the file (e.g., in MiuiSystemUI.bak).
5. Reboot the phone.

If you have problems after deleting (for example, notifications do not work or the status bar disappears), restore the file from the backup.

💡

On devices with MIUI 14 (such as Xiaomi 13 or Poco F5), the easiest way to turn off the pulse is through standard notification settings. For older firmware (MIUI 12 and below), you will have to use ADB or hidden menus.

What to do if nothing helps

If none of these things worked, maybe your pulse is tightly integrated into your firmware version, and there are three options left:

• 🔄 Update. MIUI until the latest version – in new builds often add options to disable irritating effects.
• 📱 Install custom firmware (for example, Pixel Experience or LineageOS), where there are no branded “chips” Xiaomi.
• 🛠️ Contact the service center – if the pulse appeared after the update and interferes with the use of the phone, it can be a firmware bug.

On some devices (e.g. Redmi Note 10 Pro with MIUI 12.5), the pulse goes off after turning off all notifications for specific applications.

1. Go to Settings → Notifications and Status bar.
2. Select an app (such as WhatsApp) whose notifications trigger a pulse.
