The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is still one of the most popular budget smartphones thanks to its reliable โstuffingโ and up-to-date firmware. But even experienced users sometimes have questions about basic features, such as how to quickly take a screenshot, in this article we will analyze all the available methods, from the classic button combination to hidden MIUI chips, which few people know about.
Immediately note: the instruction is relevant for all versions of the firmware - from MIUI 10 (on which the smartphone was supplied out of the box) to the latest MIUI 14. And if you have custom firmware (for example, LineageOS or Pixel Experience), the methods may differ - this will also be discussed separately.
1. Classic method: power and volume buttons
Itโs a versatile method that works on 99% of Android devices, including the Redmi Note 7.
- Open on the screen what you want to capture (message, page in the browser, game moment, etc.).
- At the same time, press the power button (right) and the volume reduction button (left).
- Hold them for 1-2 seconds until you hear the shutter sound or see an animation of the screenshot.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you press the buttons too long (more than 3 seconds), you will be forced to restart or call Fastboot. on the Redmi Note 7 this is especially true because of the sensitive mechanical buttons.
โ๏ธ Checking before screenshot
Where do I look for the finished screenshot? It's automatically saved in the folder:
Internal Memory โ Pictures โ Screenshots2. Screenshot by gesture (for MIUI only)
Xiaomi has added a unique feature to the firmware, which is to swipe a screenshot across the screen to activate it:
- Go to Settings โ Additional โ Buttons and gestures โ Screenshot gestures.
- Turn on the swipe switch with three fingers.
- Choose the direction of the gesture: down or up (we recommend down - so it is more convenient).
Now, to take a screenshot, just swipe your three fingers across the screen in a given direction.
- ๐ฎ Games (no need to release the screen).
- ๐ฑ One hand (if power and volume buttons are not available).
- ๐ง Quick access (for example, to save checks or tickets).
What to do if the gesture does not work?
โ ๏ธ Note: on some custom firmware, this gesture may conflict with system functions (e.g., calling the notification bar). If a screenshot is not created, try turning off other gestures in Settings. โ System system โ Gestures.
3. Screenshot via notification panel
Few people know, but MIUI has a built-in button for screenshots right in the notification curtain.
- Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
- Find the Screenshot icon (usually hidden under the Edit button).
- Slip on it โ the smartphone will immediately take a screenshot.
If the button is not in the curtain:
- Click Edit (pencil in the upper right corner).
- Find a screenshot in the list and drag it to the active area.
- Save the changes.
The advantage of this method is that it works even if one of the physical buttons on your smartphone is faulty, for example, if you break the volume button, this will become the main method.
4. Advanced method: Scrolling screenshot (long screenshot)
If you want to save not only the visible part of the screen, but also what is below (for example, a long chat or a web page), use the Scrolling Screenshot feature. It is available in MIUI 11 and later.
Algorithm:
- Take a regular screenshot of any of the above methods.
- Immediately after the miniature appears in the lower right corner, tap it.
- In the editor that opens, select Scroll (an icon with two arrows down).
- Wait until the smartphone automatically scrolls through the page and connects the parts into one long screenshot.
Limitations of function:
- ๐ซ It doesnโt work in games and some apps (like TikTok or Instagram Stories).
- ๐ฑ Requires enough RAM (on the Redmi Note 7 with 3 GB of RAM can brake).
- ๐ Sometimes you cut the bottom of the page, so try again.
๐ก
If a long screenshot is cut, try scrolling the page manually to the end before saving it, which helps 80% of the time.
5. Screenshot via Google's voice assistant
If you have Google Assistant enabled, you can take a screenshot with a voice command, which is convenient when hands are busy or buttons are not available.
Instructions:
- Activate the assistant with your voice (OK, Google) or hold the Home button.
- Say, Take a screenshot or take a picture of the screen.
- Confirm the action (if required).
โ ๏ธ Note: This method only works if:
- ๐ถ Internet access (assistant needs synchronization).
- ๐ The microphone is enabled for Google Assistant.
- ๐ฑ Smartphone unlocked (on a locked screen voice commands are limited).
The disadvantage of the method is that the screenshot is stored with a delay (1-2 seconds), so it is not suitable for dynamic content (video, animation).
6. Alternative methods: for custom firmware and root
If your Redmi Note 7 has an unofficial firmware installed (like LineageOS, Pixel Experience, or Havoc-OS), standard methods may not work.
| Method | How to activate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| ADB-team | Connect your smartphone to your PC and execute: adb shell screencap -p /sdcard/screen.png | Debugging is required by USB and PC. |
| Screenshot applications | Install Screenshot Easy or Super Screenshot from Google Play. | They may require root or special permissions. |
| Fastboot | Follow: fastboot devices fastboot reboot Then use the standard button method. | Suitable if the smartphone โhangsโ on the logo. |
โ ๏ธ Attention: no firmware MIUI The swipe gesture and the button in the notification curtain do not work, in which case only physical buttons or third-party utilities remain.
๐ก
On custom firmware, first check for the screenshot feature in the system settings - sometimes it is hidden in the Buttons or Gestures section.
Problem Solving: Screenshot is not saved or working
If your smartphone doesnโt take screenshots, check out the following:
- ๐ Screenshots folder is crowded โ delete old files or transfer them to PC.
- ๐ System sound is turned off - because of this, you can not hear the confirmation of the screenshot (include in Settings) โ Sound).
- ๐ ๏ธ Firmware failure โ restart your smartphone or reset the Gallery app settings.
- ๐ Application restrictions โ some banking apps or games block screenshots (e.g. SberBank Online or SberBank Online) PUBG Mobile).
If a screenshot is taken but not saved:
- Check if there is enough space in the internal memory (Settings โ Memory).
- Make sure that the Gallery app has permission to access files (Settings โ Applications โ Permissions).
- Try saving the screenshot to another location through a file manager (e.g., Mi File Manager).
