Xiaomi Redmi Go is a budget smartphone on Android Go Edition, which is still used by many users due to its simplicity and reliability. However, due to the simplified shell of MIUI Go and limited hardware resources, standard methods of creating screenshots may not work like on flagships. In this article, we will discuss all the available ways to take a screenshot on Redmi Go, including combinations of buttons, gestures and third-party utilities, as well as solve typical problems (for example, when screenshots are not saved or obtained in black).
The feature of the model is that there is no touch panel gestures (as in modern Xiaomi), so the classic βfinger-to-screenβ will not work here. But there are alternatives that not everyone knows about. If you just bought this device or have difficulty creating screenshots, read on.
1. Standard method: button combination
The most reliable method that works on all versions of Redmi Go software is to press physical buttons simultaneously.
- Open the screen you want to capture (for example, a dialog in the messenger or a page in the browser).
- Press the power button (right) and the volume down button (left) at the same time.
- Hold them for 1-2 seconds until you hear the camera shutter sound and see the save animation.
β οΈ Note: Redmi Go has buttons close together, so users often accidentally press volume up instead of down. If you don't get a screenshot, check if you've pinned the key.

Where to look for a screenshot? By default, files are saved to the DCIM β Screenshots or Pictures β Screenshots folder. To quickly open the last shot, pull down the notification bar and tap the notification βScreenshot savedβ.
2. Alternative method: food menu
If the buttons on your Redmi Go are worn out or not working well, use the built-in feature in the off menu. This method works on all Xiaomi devices, including Android Go models:
- Open the screen.
- Press the power button for 2-3 seconds until the menu with the options to Turn off, Reboot and Screenshot appears.
- Slip the screenshot icon (usually located at the bottom of the menu).
β οΈ Note: Some Redmi Go firmware (such as custom ones) may not have a screenshot in the power menu. If it's not available, use a button combination or install a third-party app.
The advantage of this is that you don't accidentally turn off your phone, like you would with a long hold on a button, and it's also easier to take screenshots with one hand.
3. Screenshots with gestures (if feature is enabled)
Unlike modern Xiaomi smartphones, Redmi Go does not support three-toed swipe for screenshots out of the box, but in some versions of MIUI Go you can activate an alternative gesture:
- Go to Settings β Additional settings β Buttons and gestures.
- Find the "Gestural Screenshot" item (if any).
- Turn on the option and select a gesture β for example, double tapping the screen or holding the Home button.
If there is no such item, do not worry: on Redmi Go gestures for screenshots are not officially supported due to the limitations of Android Go Edition.

4. Screenshot applications: when standard methods don't work
If the buttons are broken and the power menu does not contain the screenshot option, third-party utilities will come to the rescue.
- π± Screenshot Easy is a simple widget utility for quick access, even on weak devices.
- πΌοΈ Super Screenshot β allows you to take screenshots with a delay (useful for menus that disappear when you press the buttons).
- βοΈ Screenshot Touch β Adds a floating button to create screenshots in one tap.
β οΈ Note: Check reviews before installing β some apps may show ads or request unnecessary permissions (e.g. access to a website) SMS). For Redmi Go, choose utilities marked βFor Android Goβ or weighing less than 5 MB.
How to determine:
- Download. APK-file from an official website (such as APKPure) or from Google Play.
- Allow installation from unknown sources in Settings β Security.
- Launch the app and follow the instructions on the screen.

5. Editing and cropping screenshots
Once you've created a screenshot, you can edit it right away. On Redmi Go, the built-in editor starts automatically when you click on the save notification.
- βοΈ Cutting β changing the boundaries of the image.
- ποΈ Drawing β adding arrows, text or notes.
- π¨ Filters - brightness/contrast correction (limited).
- π€ Share - quick sending to messengers or social networks.
If the built-in editor isnβt enough, install Google Photos or Snapseed (both utilities are optimized for weak devices) to crop the screenshot manually:
- Open the file in the Gallery.
- Slip on the icon "Edit" (pencil).
- Select the βPruningβ tool and drag the corners of the frame.
- Save the changes (Ready or Save as a Copy button).
π‘
If the screenshot is blurry, try to do it again with the No Sound mode on β vibration when you press the buttons sometimes shifts the picture.
Typical problems and their solutions
Redmi Go users often have difficulty creating screenshots, and we'll look at the most common ones:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshots are not saved | Run out of memory or Screenshots folder crash | Clean up memory or create a folder manually through a file manager |
| Black screen on the screenshot | Conflict with an application (for example, banking or with a DRM-protection) | Take a picture through a third-party app or turn off protection in the app settings |
| The buttons don't work. | Wear of machinery or pollution | Try the food menu or clean the buttons with alcohol |
| No sound when creating a screenshot | Shutter sound turned off in settings | Turn on the camera shutter sound in the settings β Sounds β |
If screenshots are saved but not displayed in the gallery, check the DCIM/Screenshots folder through a file manager (like Files by Google). Sometimes files are hidden due to a media scanner failure, in which case a phone reboot will help.

Redmi Go cannot screenshot secure applications (e.g., banking or DRM) because Android Go blocks this feature at the system level.
7.Where screenshots are stored and how to transfer them to the PC
By default, all screenshots are saved in the phoneβs internal memory along the way:
/storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Screenshots/
or
/storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Screenshots/To transfer them to the computer:
- Connect Redmi Go to PC via USB-cable.
- Select File Transfer (MTP) mode in the notification curtain.
- On your computer, open the phone folder and search for the Pictures or DCIM directory.
- Copy the desired files to any folder on the PC.
Alternative modes of transmission:
- π Cloud Services β Upload screenshots to Google Drive or Mi Cloud.
- πΆ Messengers β send files to yourself in Telegram (save in βFavoritesΒ»).
- π‘ Wi-Fi Direct β if your PC supports this technology.
