While typing on Xiaomi smartphones is a feature that is not popular with everyone, tactile feedback creates a pleasant sensation of βpressingβ buttons for some users, for others it becomes a source of irritation: It distracts from work, drains the battery and can even cause discomfort with prolonged use. AMOLED-screens where the vibrating motor often works louder than on the LCD-display.
In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to turn off the vibration response, from standard MIUI settings to hidden developer parameters. The instructions are relevant for all modern devices of the brand: Xiaomi 13/14 series, Redmi Note 12/13, POCO F5/X5 and others based on MIUI 12-15 or HyperOS. You will also learn how to turn off vibration only for specific applications (for example, WhatsApp or Telegram) and what to do if the settings reset after the system update.
Why the vibration response can interfere: 3 key problems
Before we get to the instructions, itβs worth understanding why many users want to get rid of this feature.
- π Increased battery consumption: Vibration motor is one of the most energy-consuming components of a smartphone, and when typing is active (for example, in messengers), it can eat up to 5-7% of the charge per hour.
- π― Distraction: Constant microvibration makes it difficult to concentrate, especially if you type quickly or use your smartphone in a quiet environment (in lectures, meetings).
- π οΈ In the cheap Redmi models, the vibrating motor eventually starts to "rattle" or work unevenly, which only increases the irritation.
In addition, on some firmware (especially custom) the vibration response is delayed, which creates the effect of sticking the keys, especially in games or when using swipe input (for example, in Gboard).
β οΈ Note: On HyperOS devices (new shell instead of HyperOS) MIUI) The path to vibration settings may be different. If you don't find the right item on the menu, check the firmware version in Settings β The phone.
Method 1: Turn off vibration in keyboard settings
The simplest and most obvious method is to deactivate the vibration response directly in the settings of the keyboard used. Most Xiaomi users use either the standard MIUI keyboard or Google's Gboard. Instructions for both versions:
For the standard MIUI keyboard:
- Open any field to enter text (for example, in Messages or Notes).
- Touch the badge. βοΈ (gears) on the keyboard panel to open the settings.
- Go to the section Sound and vibration.
- Turn off the Vibroresponse switch when pressed.
For Gboard (Google Keyboard):
- Launch Gboard and tap the icon βοΈ.
- Select Settings β Basic settings.
- Find the Vibration item when you press the keys and deactivate it.
If you still feel the vibration after these actions, check the system vibration settings (for more on this in the next section), and make sure you have the latest version of the keyboard installed: sometimes bugs with a vibration response are fixed in updates.

Method 2: Global Vibration Shutdown in MIUI
If the vibration response interferes not only with typing, but also in other situations (for example, when touching buttons in the menu or unlocking the screen), you can turn off the vibration at the system level.
- Go to Settings. β Sound and vibration.
- Select Vibration (on some firmware, the item may be called Tactile Feedback).
- Turn off switches: Vibration when touching Vibration when typing (if any)
On HyperOS, the path might look like this: Settings β Display and Sound β Vibration. Note that global vibration shutdown affects all system notifications, including alarms and calls. If you only need vibration for important alerts, this is not the right way to go, you better use vibration profiles (discuss them below).
| MIUI/HyperOS version | The path to vibration settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 12β13 | Settings β Sound and vibration β Vibration | The item may be called "Tactile feedback" |
| MIUI 14 | Settings β Display and sound β Vibration | In addition, there is a set of vibration intensity |
| HyperOS 1.0 | Settings β Sound and vibration β Vibration and tactile feedback | Separated settings for keyboard and system events |
β οΈ Note: Some models (e.g. Xiaomi) 12T or POCO F4 GT) After upgrading to HyperOS, the vibration settings may reset. If this happens, check the Settings section. β Annexes β Application management β Keyboard and cache.
Method 3: Use of the "Do Not Disturb" mode
If you need to temporarily turn off the vibration response (for example, during a meeting or at night), it is convenient to use the Do Not Disturb mode. It allows you to flexibly adjust which notifications and vibrations will be blocked.
- Open Settings β Notifications and Status bar β Do not disturb.
- Select the Rules and create a new rule (e.g., Work or Sleep).
- In the settings of the rules, activate: Turn off vibration Disable touch sounds (optional)
Set a schedule or activate the rule manually through the notification panel.
The advantage of this method is that you can create multiple profiles for different situations, for example, one profile will turn off all vibrations at work, and another will only vibrate the keyboard at night. However, note that in the Do Not Disturb mode, calls and notifications are also blocked (unless exceptions are configured).
π‘
If you only need vibration for calls, but not for the keyboard, create a "Do Not Disturb" rule with an exception for the Phone app, so you don't miss important calls, but you get rid of the extra vibration when typing.
Method 4: Turning off vibration for individual applications
Sometimes the vibration only gets in the way of certain applications, like Telegram or Instagram, where it works when you send messages or like, and in those cases, you can turn off the vibration selectively without affecting the rest of the system.
For messengers (WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber):
- π± WhatsApp: Settings β Notifications β Vibration. β Choose No Vibration.
- π¬ Telegram: Settings β Notifications and sounds β Vibration. β Turn off the switch.
- π Viber: More β Settings β Notifications β Vibration. β Choose No. No.
For games and social media:
In most games (like PUBG Mobile or Genshin Impact), the vibrancy is set directly to the audio menu. Look for items like Haptic Feedback or Vibration. On Instagram and TikTok, the likes vibration is turned off in the notification settings.
If the app doesnβt provide this option, you can use special utilities to control vibration, for example, the Vibration Tuner app (available on Google Play) allows you to create whitelists of applications for which vibration will be turned off, but it requires ADB rights to work (we will discuss them in the next section).
What to do if the vibration settings in the application are not saved?
Method 5: Advanced Methods (ADB and Developer Settings)
If standard methods donβt work (for example, on custom firmware or after updating), you can use hidden Android settings. This method requires a little more effort, but is guaranteed to turn off vibration response at the system level.
Method 1: Through Developer Settings
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone and tap on MIUI Version 7 times.
- Go back to the basic settings and open a new section for developers.
- Find the option to turn off vibration when touching (or Haptic feedback) and activate it.
Method 2: Through ADB-Teams (for experienced users)
If the previous method did not work, you can turn off the vibration through ADB.
- Install ADB Tools on your computer and connect your smartphone via USB (with debugging enabled).
- Adb shell settings put global settings haptic_feedback_enabled 0
- To turn off the vibration of the keyboard, use: adb shell settings put system haptic_feedback_enabled 0
- Reset the device.
To get the vibration back, replace the 0 with 1 commands. This method works on all versions of Android, but it takes care - the wrong commands can disrupt the system.
π‘
ADB-commands are the most reliable way to disable vibration response if the standard settings don't work. However, before using them, back up your data via Settings. β Additionally. β Backup and reset.
What to do if the vibration returns after the update
Many Xiaomi users experience vibration resets after upgrading MIUI or HyperOS, which is because newer versions of the firmware overwrite user settings. Here's how to avoid this problem:
- π Reverse to the previous firmware version (if the update brought more bugs than pluses). To do this, download the old firmware from the official Xiaomi website and thread it through Fastboot.
- π± Use third-party launchers (like Nova Launcher) that allow you to turn off vibration regardless of system settings.
- π§ Set up automatic application ADB-commands after updating using scripts (for example, via Tasker).
If you donβt want to roll back, check to see if the new firmware version has added separate vibration settings, for example, in HyperOS, they can be in Settings β Special Features β Vibration.
Also worth keeping an eye out for keyboard updates. Sometimes the vibrating response returns after updating the Gboard or the standard MIUI keyboard. In this case, try to roll back to the previous version of the application via APKMirror.
