The sound of notifications on Xiaomi can be annoying, especially when messages arrive at night or during important meetings. Fortunately, MIUI offers several ways to turn off the audio while preserving vibration or light signals. In this article, we will discuss all the current methods for Redmi, POCO and Mi smartphones based on MIUI 14/13 and Android 13/12.
Itβs important to understand that turning off notifications doesnβt mean blocking alerts completely. Youβll still see the status bar icons, get vibrations (if you donβt turn it off separately) and light signals, and if you only want to silence a specific app like WhatsApp or VKontakte, weβll show you how to do it point by point.
We warn you in advance: some settings may differ depending on the version of MIUI and the model of the smartphone. If your Xiaomi is running on old firmware (for example, MIUI 12 or lower), some of the instructions may not work - in this case, we recommend updating through Settings β About Phone β System Update.
1. Completely disabling the notification sound in the system settings
The most versatile way is to turn off the audio for all notifications through the settings menu. This won't block the alerts, but will make them silent. POCO any version MIUI.
Instructions:
- Open the settings (cog icon on the desktop).
- Go to the section Sound and vibration.
- Slip on the Notification item.
- Turn off the notification sound slider (it will turn grey).
After that, all notifications (including SMS, messengers and system alerts) will come without sound, and the vibration and LED indicator (if you have one on your model) will continue to work.
β οΈ Note: Some models (e.g. Xiaomi) 12T or POCO F5) The Notifications section may be in the submenu Additional inside the Sounds and Vibrations section. If you can't find it right away, check all tabs.

2.Switching off sound for individual applications
If you only need to silence a particular app (like Telegram or Instagram) and leave the rest of the notifications with sound, use customized settings. This is convenient when one of the apps sends alerts too often.
How to do this:
- Press the notification from the desired application and swipe it left/right (depending on the model).
- Put the badge on. β Settings (will appear after swipe).
- In the app notification settings menu, find Sound and select No Sound or Quiet.
- Save the changes.
Alternative path:
- π± Open the Settings. β Annexes β Application management.
- π Find the right application in the list and tap it.
- π Go to Notifications and turn off the sound for each type of alert (e.g. Messages, Groups, Calls).
Some models (e.g. Redmi Note 12 Pro+) can also configure notification channels, allowing you to turn off the sound only for certain types of alerts (e.g., only for groups on WhatsApp, but not for private messages).

3.Use of the "Do Not Disturb" mode
Do Not Disturb (DND) is a temporary shutdown of all sounds and vibrations, convenient for use at night, during meetings or when you need to concentrate, and unlike completely shutting down notifications, you can set exceptions (for example, allow calls from selected contacts).
How to turn on:
- π Smash down the notification bar and find the Do Not Disturb icon (usually looks like a crossed bell.
- π To set the schedule, go to Settings β Sounds and vibrations β Don't disturb.
- β° Here you can set automatic turn on time (for example, from 23:00 to 8:00).
In the Do Not Disturb mode settings, options are also available:
- π Allow calls β you can leave the sound for repeat calls or selected contacts.
- π Allow notifications β choose which apps can bypass the mode (such as alarm clock or reminders).
- π Rules β Create separate profiles for work, sleep or appointments.
β οΈ Attention: On Xiaomi with MIUI 14 in Do Not Disturb by default, turn off all sounds, including the alarm clock. To avoid this, add the Watch app to the exception list!
Setting up the sound profile to "No sound"
If you need to quickly turn off all sounds (not only notifications, but also calls, signals), switch to a No Sound profile, which is the equivalent of a "vibro" on older phones, but with flexible customization.
Switching methods:
- π Through the notification bar: swipe down and tap on the current sound profile (usually displayed as Sound, Vibration or No Sound).
- π΅ Through Settings: Settings β Sounds and vibrations β Sound profile.
In the profile Without sound, you can additionally configure:
- π³ Vibration upon touch (tactile recoil).
- π Notifications Vibration (if you need to leave).
- πΆ Media sound (music and video will be played as usual).
| Profile | The sound of notifications | Sound of bells | Vibration. | Media |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sound. | β On. | β On. | β On. | β On. |
| Vibration. | β Off. | β Off. | β On. | β On. |
| No sound. | β Off. | β Off. | β Off. (setting up) | β On. |
| Don't disturb. | β Off (with exceptions) | β Off (with exceptions) | β Off. (setting up) | β On. |
On Xiaomi models with an infrared port (for example, Redmi Note 11 Pro), the βNo Soundβ profile does not affect the remote control β it will continue to send signals even in silent mode.
5. Disable the sound of notifications via ADB (for advanced)
If standard methods fail (e.g., on custom firmware or after resetting), you can turn off the notification sound via ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which requires connecting your smartphone to your computer and basic command line knowledge.
Step-by-step:
- Turn on Developer Mode on Xiaomi: Go to Settings β About Phone. Tap 7 times on MIUI Version until the notification appears You became a developer!

To return the sound of notifications, use the command:
adb shell settings put global notification_sound "content://settings/system/notification_sound"β οΈ Attention: Misuse of the right ADB If you're not sure what you're doing, use the standard methods in the previous sections.
What if the ADB canβt see the device?
6. Resetting the sound settings to factory
If after experimenting with audio profiles, the notifications stopped working correctly (for example, the sound is lost or duplicated), you can reset the sound settings to the factory. This does not affect personal data, but returns all sound parameters to the state out of the box.
How to reset:
- Go to Settings β System and device β Resetting.
- Select Reset sound settings (on some models, the item may be called Reset all settings - then the sound will reset along with other parameters).
- Confirm the action.
Check all of the listed items and reset the sound settings if necessary (Section 6).
