Why the sound of the Redmi 7A keyboard is annoying and how to remove it forever
The sound signals when typing on the Xiaomi Redmi 7A may seem like a trifle, but over time they start to get on your nerves — especially in quiet rooms or when you are actively communicating in messengers. Even if you are used to standard keystrokes, it often works inappropriately: in transport, in a meeting or at night when everyone is asleep. Fortunately, the manufacturer has provided several ways to turn off this sound, and we will analyze them in as much detail as possible.
It’s important to understand that on the Redmi 7A (as on other Xiaomi smartphones with a MIUI shell), the keyboard sound can come from three sources: the system keyboard (Gboard or standard from Xiaomi), applications (Telegram, WhatsApp) or system notifications. So there is no universal solution — you have to configure each source separately. But don’t worry: the process takes no more than 5 minutes if you know where to look.

Before you start, check the MIUI version on your device: Settings path → About phone → MIUI version. This depends on the location of some menu items. If you have MIUI 12 and newer, some of the settings may be in the section “Sounds and vibrations” instead of “Language and input”.
Method 1: Turn off sound in keyboard system settings
The most obvious and universal method is to deactivate the sound effects directly in the keyboard settings, and it works whether you're using a standard Xiaomi or Gboard keyboard (Google).
- Open the settings on your Redmi 7A.

Important! In some versions of MIUI (especially 10–11), the sound item may be called something else, such as Audio feedback or Sound signals. If you don't find the right setting, try searching by settings (the magnifier icon in the upper right corner).

Method 2: Disable audio in individual applications (Telegram, WhatsApp, Viber)
Some messengers have their own audio settings that are independent of system settings, for example, in Telegram or WhatsApp, the keyboard sound can be played even if you turn it off in the basic settings, and we will figure out how to remove it in popular applications.

In Telegram, the keyboard sound is set separately:
- Open the app and tap on three horizontal lines (menu) in the upper left corner.
- Select Settings → Sounds and notifications.
- Scroll down to the Keyboard Sounds section and turn off the slider.
On WhatsApp, the keyboard sound is tied to system settings, but you can turn off notification sounds, which are sometimes confused with typing:
- Open the Settings. → Notifications.
- Turn off notifications and message sounds.

📞 Viber
In Viber, the keyboard sound is controlled through:
- More (⋮) → Settings → Notifications.
- Turn off the sound of the keys in the section Sounds.

Method 3: Reset keyboard settings to factory
If the keyboard sound doesn't turn off through the standard settings, there may be a configuration failure, in which case resetting the keyboard to the factory will help, and it won't delete your data, but it will return all your input settings to the "post-purchase" state.
Instructions:
- Go to Settings → System and Device → Language and Enter.
- Select your keyboard (such as Gboard).
- Slip on the three dots in the top right corner and select Reset (or Restore Default Settings).
- Confirm the action.
After reset, check if the keyboard is off. If not, go back to Method 1 and repeat the steps.
⚠️ Warning: Resetting your keyboard will remove all the saved words from the user's dictionary and return the layout to the standard one. If you added specialized terms or slang, you'll have to re-enter them.
What if the reset didn't help?
Method 4: Completely reset your phone (if nothing helps)
The last resort, a factory reset of the Redmi 7A, should only be applied if all previous methods have failed.This will remove all data from the device, including photos, contacts and installed apps, so make a backup beforehand.
How to reset your phone:
- Go to Settings → About the phone → Reset settings.
- Select Reset all settings (or Delete all data).

Before you completely reset your phone, be sure to save your important data to the cloud (Mi Cloud, Google Drive) or your computer. It is almost impossible to recover deleted files after resetting!

If your Redmi 7A runs on unofficial firmware (like LineageOS, Pixel Experience, or modified MIUI), standard methods may not work.
