The download sound on Xiaomi smartphones is one of those little things that can be annoying for years, especially if you often reboot your phone or use it in quiet places like libraries, conference rooms or at night. Unlike system tunes, this sound is not turned off by the standard volume control - it needs to be deactivated separately.
The problem is that the manufacturer doesn't make this option into the basic settings, depending on the model (Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Xiaomi 13T) and the firmware version (MIUI 14/15), the ways are different: somewhere you just turn off one tick, and somewhere you have to use ADB or even edit system files, and we've collected all the current methods, from the simplest to the most advanced ones, that work in 2026.
Why the sound of the switch on does not turn off through the volume regulator
Many users try to remove the boot sound by simply reducing the volume to zero before turning off the phone.
- π The download sound is played at the hardware level β it does not depend on the media settings or alarm clock.
- π± On some models (Redmi) 9A, POCO M4 Pro) it is registered in bootanimation, the animation system file.
- π§ V MIUI sound-linked android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED, which is activated after the system is fully loaded.
Moreover, on phones with unlocked bootloader or custom firmware (LineageOS, Pixel Experience), this sound can disappear by itself β it just does not add to informal builds. MIUI You'll have to work hard.
Method 1: Disconnect via MIUI settings (for some models)
The easiest method is to check if your firmware has a hidden option. It works on Xiaomi 11/12/13, Redmi Note 10/11/12 and some other models with MIUI 13+:
- Open the Settings. β Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down to the System Sounds block.
- Find the item "On/Off" (may be called "Load Sound").
- Turn the slider to the "Off" position.
If there's no such item, then your model doesn't support it. Go to the following methods.
π‘
On some firmware, the option only appears after you plug in your headphones, so try inserting a wired or Bluetooth headset and revisiting your audio settings.
Method 2: Use of the "Do Not Disturb" mode
This is a temporary solution, but it works on 100% of Xiaomi devices, and the idea is to block all sounds while you download them:
- β° Turn on the mode Do not disturb (Settings) β Sound. β Don't disturb).
- π Select Always or schedule (e.g. 00:00 to 06:00 if you reboot your phone at night).
- π Make sure that the exceptions do not include "System sounds".
The downside is that the download sound will turn off all notifications, including alarm clocks, and is only suitable for one-offs.
β οΈ Attention: POCO F4/F5 redmi K50 Do Not Disturb mode can reset after rebooting. Check its status after turning on the phone.
Method 3: Disconnect via ADB (for advanced users)
If the first two methods don't work, you'll have to use Android Debug Bridge (ADB), which is Google's official tool for managing system settings through a computer.
Install Xiaomi drivers on PC| Enable USB debugging in developer settings | Download ADB Tools (platform-tools) | Connect your phone to your PC via cable (not Wi-Fi!)
-->
Next, run commands in the terminal (Windows/Linux/macOS):
adb shell
settings put global power_sound_enabled 0If the team doesnβt work, try an alternative:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
rm /system/media/audio/ui/poweron.ogg
rm /system/media/audio/ui/poweroff.ogg
mount -o ro,remount /systemOn some models (Redmi Note) 8 Pro, POCO X3 NFC) download sound is stored in the file /system/media/audio/ui/miui_power_on.ogg β Remove it instead of poweron.ogg.
β οΈ Attention: You need root access to run commands with su, and without it, the second option won't work. Also be careful: deleting system files can cause crashes.
Method 4: Editing a bootanimation file (for root users)
On Xiaomi phones, the download sound is often embedded in the bootanimation.zip animation file. To remove it, you need to:
- Download /system/media/bootanimation.zip on PC (use Root Explorer or ADB pull).
- Unclick it and delete the /audio folder (or files inside it).
- Archive back to bootanimation.zip and replace the original file.
- Set up rights 644 (rw-r----).
Alternatively, replace audio files with empty tracks of the same duration (e.g., generate 2 seconds silence in Audacity and save it to.ogg).
| Model phone | The path to the loading sound | Need root? |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 12/13 | /system/media/audio/ui/poweron.ogg | Yes. |
| Redmi Note 10/11 | /system/media/audio/ui/miui_power_on.ogg | Yes. |
| POCO F3/F4 | /system/media/bootanimation.zip (audio folder attached) | Yes. |
| Black Shark 4/5 | /system/product/media/audio/ui/power_on.ogg | Yes. |
What if the phone does not boot after editing bootanimation?
Method 5: Installation of custom recavery and modified firmware
If you didn't get the benefit of the previous methods, the radical solution is to flash the modified firmware without the boot sound.
- π Unlock the bootloader through Mi Unlock Tool (official utility from Xiaomi).
- π₯ Install. TWRP Recovery for your model.
- π Sweat the custom firmware (for example, MIUI EU without branding or Pixel Experience).
Most custom firmware has no download sound by default, and the downside is the loss of the official warranty and the risk of the phone getting βbrickedβ if it fails.
π‘
Custom firmware voids Xiaomi warranty. If the phone is warranty, use only the first three methods (without root and unlock the bootloader).
Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
When trying to turn off the download audio, users often encounter problems.
- π The phone is not determined in ADB: Check the drivers, turn on the debugging by USB and select Transfer Files mode (MTP) plug-in.
- π Team team. ADB It doesnβt work: some firmwares need to get root first or use su before a command.
- π The sound is back after the update MIUI: system files are restored. Repeat the procedure or roll back to the old firmware version.
- π« You can not edit system files: your firmware does not support writing in /system. Try using Magisk to mount partition in rw mode.
If youβre using Xiaomi with a MediaTek processor (Redmi 9, POCO M3), be careful: on these chips unlocking the bootloader and working with ADB often lead to hard-brick (irreparable damage).
