Randomly playing tracks in a Xiaomi player can be annoying when you want to listen to albums in the original sequence or follow the playlist in a given order. This is especially true for users who use the standard Music app or third-party players like Spotify, YouTube Music, where the mixing settings are sometimes confused after MIUI updates. In this article, we will examine all ways to turn off shuffle mode - from basic to hidden settings that work even if the mix button is inactive or gray.
Complicating the problem, different versions of MIUI (12 to 14) and different models β Redmi Note 11, POCO X5, Xiaomi 13T β the player interface may be different, and some users experience a bug when settings are reset after rebooting the device, and we tested all the methods on the current firmware in 2026 and identified the ones that are guaranteed to work.
Why is music played randomly?
The shuffle mode can be activated automatically for several reasons:
- πΉ Accidental press: the mix button in the Xiaomi player is located next to the repeat button, it is easy to touch with a finger.
- πΉ Update MIUI: After installing a new version of the firmware, the player settings can be reset to factory (including shuffle).=on).
- πΉ Sync with Mi Account: If you are logged in to a Xiaomi account on another device that has been randomly activated, the settings may be reset.
- πΉ In-app bug: Some versions of Mi Music (e.g. 4.5.8) have bugs when the player ignored user settings.
Xiaomi also has two levels of mixing settings: global (applies to all playlists) and local (only for the current album or playlist). If you have turned off shuffle in one place but the music is still mixed, check both options.
Method 1: Disable shuffle in the standard Mi Music player
If you use the built-in Music app (an icon with a note on an orange background), follow this instruction:
- Open the Mi Music app and start playing any track.
- In the bottom panel of the player, tap the miniature of the album cover to turn the player on the full screen.
- In the lower right corner, find the Stir icon (two cross-haired arrows) if it's illuminated in orange, the mode is active.
- You tap the icon once, it's supposed to turn grey, which means that random order is off.
If the button is inactive (grey, but the music is still mixed), try the additional steps:
- π Restart the player: Close it in recent apps and reopen it.
- π Remove the current playlist from the queue and add the tracks again.
- π Check the album settings: some compilations (like "Favorite Tracks") may have their own shuffle settings.

β οΈ Attention: B MIUI 14 on some models (Xiaomi 12 Pro, Redmi) K50) The shuffle button can hide behind a long tap on the album cover. Hold your finger in the picture for 2 seconds to open up additional options.
Method 2: Playback settings in MIUI (hidden section)
If the standard method didn't work, check the global playback settings on the system, which is relevant for users who have the player ignore manual changes:
- Open the Settings. β Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down and select Music Settings (or Additional Settings, depending on the MIUI version).
- Find the βReproductionβ section and tap it.
- Turn off the option Random default order (if any).
- Save the changes and restart the player.
On some firmware (POCO F4, Redmi Note 10 Pro), this section may be called Player Settings or hidden behind the "More" item (three dots in the upper right corner of the sound settings screen). If there is no option, then your version of MIUI does not support global shuffle management.
| Xiaomi model | MIUI version | The presence of hidden shuffle settings |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 13/13 Pro | 14.0.5+ | Yes (in Additional settings) |
| Redmi Note 12 | 13.0.9β14.0.2 | No (only in the player) |
| POCO X5 Pro | 14.0.3 | Yes (Player Settings section) |
| Xiaomi 11T | 12.5.7 | Partially (for playlists only) |

If you donβt have shuffle disable in the settings, try resetting the Mi Music app through Settings β Apps β App Management β Music β Storage β Reset. This will bring the player back to factory settings without removing your tracks.
Method 3: Disable shuffle in third-party players (Spotify, YouTube Music)
If you're using third-party apps rather than a standard Xiaomi player, the algorithm will be different.
Spotify
In Spotify, random order can be activated automatically for playlists marked "For You" or "Recommendations" to disable:
- Open a playlist or an album.
- At the bottom of the screen, find the "Shuff" icon. If it's green, tap it.
- For playlists with auto-play (e.g., Daily Selection), stirring is only disabled in the premium account.
YouTube Music
In YouTube Music, the algorithm is similar, but there's a caveat: the app remembers the last playback mode.
- π΅ Open any track or playlist.
- π΅ Slip the shuffle icon at the bottom of the screen (it will turn grey).
- π΅ Restart the application to keep the settings.
β οΈ Warning: In the free version of YouTube Music, after a pause of more than 10 minutes, the player can again turn on random order. This is a limitation of the service, not a Xiaomi bug.
Method 4: Reset player settings via ADB (for power users)
If none of these methods worked, and the music is still played randomly, the problem may lie in the damaged settings of the app, in which case a reset via ADB (Android Debug Bridge) will help, which requires connecting the smartphone to the computer.
Instructions:
- Turn on Developer Mode on Xiaomi: go to Settings β About Phone β MIUI version and tap it 7 times.
- Return to Settings β Additional β For developers and activate Debugging over USB.
- Connect the phone to your PC, open the command line and type: adb shell pm clear com.miui.player This command will reset the settings of the standard Mi Music player.
- If you use Spotify, replace the command with: adb shell pm clear com.spotify.music
After you execute the command, restart your smartphone. All playlists and downloaded tracks will remain in place, but the playback settings will be reset to the factory.
What if the ADB does not recognize the device?
Method 5: Checking for conflicts with other applications
Sometimes random order is not triggered by the player, but by third-party utilities that control playback.
- π Equidistant (applications for leveling track volume, such as Volume Booster).
- π Automatic playlists (applications like Musicolet or Poweramp that may conflict with a standard player).
- π Desktop widgets (some music control widgets have their own shuffle settings).
To check it out:
- Close all music-related apps through recent tasks.
- Open Settings β Applications β Application Management and sort the list by the date of last use.
- Check if there are any recently active programs that can affect playback.
- Disable Overlay rights and Special Access for suspicious applications.
π‘
If the problem disappears after the third-party applications are closed, the conflict is confirmed.
What do you do if nothing helps?
If all of these methods have not yielded results, radical measures remain:
- MIUI Update: Check for updates in Settings β About Phone β System Update. Newer firmware versions often fix player bugs.
- Installation of an alternative player: If the problem is only Mi Music, try VLC, AIMP or Musicolet β they are not dependent on Xiaomiβs system settings.
- Resetting your phone to factory settings: an extreme measure that is guaranteed to remove all user settings, including damaged player configurations.
Itβs also worth checking out the official Xiaomi forum β there may be specific instructions or patches for your model (Redmi 9A, POCO M4 Pro, etc.).
