The sound signal when connecting a charge to the Xiaomi Redmi can be annoying β especially at night when you put your phone on charging in the bedroom. By default, MIUI plays a short melodic sound every time the cable connects to a USB-C or Micro-USB connector (on older models). Fortunately, you can turn that sound off in a number of ways β both through standard settings, or using hidden features or third-party apps.
In this article, we will discuss 5 proven methods, including:
- π Disconnection through the sound settings in MIUI (easiest)
- π± Use of the "Do Not Disturb" mode with exceptions
- π§ Editing system files (for advanced users)
- π€ Application ADB-root-command
- π οΈ Resetting the sound settings to factory (if other methods have not worked)
Important: not all methods are universal. For example, on the Redmi Note 11 with MIUI 14, a standard shutdown in the menu can work, and on the POCO F5 with Android 13, an ADB will be required.
1. Disable charging sound via MIUI settings
The most obvious and safe way to do this is to use the built-in MIUI options, but not all firmware versions have direct access to this option, and if you have MIUI 12 or newer, try the following:
- Open the Settings app (cog icon).
- Go to the section Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down and find System Sounds or Other Sounds.
- Look for the option of charging connection sound (could be called USB Sound or Power Sound).
- Turn the slider to the off position. or uncheck the tick.
If you don't have one, don't worry. On some models (like the Redmi 9A or POCO M3), the manufacturer has hidden this option, so move on to the following methods.

On some firmware, the charging sound is tied to the overall notification sound. Try temporarily disabling all notifications via Do Not Disturb to check if the signal is lost.
2.Use of the "Do Not Disturb" mode
If the charging sound is tied to system notifications, it can be blocked via Do Not Disturb mode, which is suitable for all Xiaomi models, but has a limitation: along with the charging sound, other notifications (calls, SMS, application signals) will be turned off.
How to set up:
- Press the volume button down to open the Quick Settings panel.
- Find the icon Do not disturb (the bell icon with cross-out) and tap it.
- Select Before disconnecting manually or set a schedule (for example, from 23:00 to 7:00).
- In additional settings (Exceptions), allow Alarms and Media if necessary.
The downside is that when you activate Do Not Disturb, you won't hear any important notifications, but the charging sound is guaranteed to disappear.

3. editing system files (root required)
This is a method for power users, because it requires superuser rights (root), if you don't have them, skip this section, and the idea is to delete or rename the system audio file that is responsible for the charging signal.
Instructions:
- Install a file manager with root support (such as Root Explorer or Solid Explorer).
- Click on /system/media/audio/ui/ or (on some firmware): /system/product/media/audio/ui/
- Find files with names: Charging.ogg Power_connect.ogg USB.ogg
.bak
Charging.ogg.bak
Reboot the phone.
Warning: Incorrect editing of system files may cause firmware to crash. Before making changes, back up /system/media/audio/.
Create a backup copy of the folder /system/media/audio/|Install a file manager with root access|Check for Charging.ogg files or Power_connect.ogg|Rename files, not delete them-->
4.Switching off the sound via ADB (no root)
If you donβt have root permissions, but you have a computer, you can use USB debugging (ADB), which works on most Xiaomi models with MIUI 12-15 and doesnβt require unlocking the bootloader.
Step-by-step:
- Download Googleβs Platform Tools and unpack the archive.
- On your phone, turn on Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone. Tap 7 times on MIUI Version.
Settings β Additional β For Developers
USB debugging
cmd
Platform Tools
adb devices(The name of your device should appear).
adb shell settings put global power_sounds_enabled 0Reboot the phone.
If the sound is still there, try the alternative command:
adb shell settings put system charging_sound_enabled 0π‘
ADB commands temporarily turn off the sound until the next settings reset. After the MIUI update, you may need to repeat the procedure.
5. Resetting the sound settings to the factory
If previous methods didnβt work and the charging sound came up after the firmware update, try resetting the audio settings. This wonβt delete your data, but will return all audio settings to the default state.
How to reset:
- Open Settings β System and device β Resetting settings.
- Select Reset sound settings (on some firmware β Reset all settings, but without deleting data).
- Confirm the action.
After reset, check if the Sound and Vibration menu has a charging sound switch off option, sometimes hidden due to a configuration failure.
β οΈ Note: Xiaomi Redmi with MIUI 13 and later resetting the audio settings can also reset individual volume profiles for alarm clock and media.
Comparison of methods: which one to choose?
To make it easier for you to determine, we have compiled a table with the pros and cons of each method:
| Method | Difficulty | PC/root required | It's working at MIUI 14/15. | Reversibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MIUI settings | β | β No. | β οΈ Partially. | β Yes. |
| "Don't disturb." | β | β No. | β Yes. | β Yes. |
| File editing (root) | βββ | β Yeah) | β Yes. | β Yes (if there's a backup) |
| ADB-team | ββ | β Yes) | β Yes. | β Yes. |
| Resetting sound settings | β | β No. | β Yes. | β οΈ Partially. |
For most users, the best option β ADB-They don't require root, they work on all versions. MIUI If you don't want to connect your phone to your PC, try the standard settings first or do not disturb mode.
