Why keyboard vibration is annoying and how to turn it off
Keyboard vibrating on Xiaomi smartphones is one of those features that you either enjoy at the first touch or start to annoy after an hour of use. For some, easy recoil when you press the screen creates the illusion of a โphysicalโ keyboard, and for others it becomes a source of discomfort: distracts from typing, eats battery power and can even provoke headaches with prolonged use.
Compounding the problem, the manufacturer doesnโt always make this setting visible. Depending on the model (Redmi Note 12 Pro+, POCO F5, Xiaomi 13T) and the shell version (MIUI 12-14), the path to turning off vibrations can be drastically different. Moreover, after system updates, settings are sometimes โresetโ or moved to other menus. In this article, we will examine all the current methods, from basic to hidden, which work even where standard methods are powerless.
It's important to understand that keyboard vibration and system vibration (at notifications, calls) are different functions. If you turn off one, you won't touch the other. Also, on some models (Black Shark, gaming smartphones), the vibration can be tied to the Game Turbo, which we'll talk about separately.
Method 1: Turn off vibration in the settings of the standard MIUI keyboard
If you use Xiaomi's native keyboard (it's called the Mi Keyboard or Google's Gboard in some firmware), the easiest way to do that is to go to its settings. Here's how to do it:
- Open any application where you can type text (such as Messages or Notes).
- Tap the input field so that the keyboard appears.
- Press the gear icon (โ๏ธ) In the top panel of the keyboard - it is quick access to settings.
- Select the keyboard Settings โ Review when pressed (or Vibration when pressed).
- Move the slider to the off position.
On some versions of MIUI 13/14, the path may be slightly different:
- ๐น Keyboard settings โ Additionally. โ Vibration.
- ๐น Preferences โ Tactile feedback
- ๐น Sound and vibration โ Vibration of the keyboard (meeting on the POCO X5 Pro)
You use the standard Xiaomi keyboard (non-third-party) |
Make sure the keyboard is updated to the latest version|
Check if Do Not Disturb mode is enabled (it can block changes)|
Restart your smartphone if the settings do not apply-->
If there's no vibration, don't panic, which means either your version of the keyboard doesn't support the setup (rarely, but it does happen on very old models like the Redmi 5A), or it's hidden somewhere else.
Method 2: Globally shutting down vibration in system settings
When the keyboard doesn't go off vibration through its own settings, you can go the "go-around" of locking it at system level. This method works on all Xiaomi models, but has a side effect: it will stop vibrating everything else (notifications, calls, system alerts) along with the keyboard. If you're comfortable with it, follow the instructions:
- Open the Settings. โ Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down to the Vibration block.
- Turn off the slider Vibration when touching (or tactile feedback).
- For full effect, also turn off Vibration when dialing, if such a item is available.
At POCO and some Redmi, the path might look like this:
Settings โ Notifications and Status String โ Additional โ Vibration๐ก
If the vibration still works after the shutdown, check if the older person mode is on (Special features โ Simplified mode).
| Smartphone model | MIUI version | The path to vibration settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 13/13 Pro | MIUI 14 | Settings โ Sound โ Vibration and tactile feedback | There is a separate switch for the keyboard |
| Redmi Note 12 Pro+ | MIUI 13.5 | Settings โ Additional โ Special. capabilities โ Vibration | It may need to be rebooted. |
| POCO F5 | MIUI 14 (Global) | Settings โ Notifications โ Vibration when touching | Some firmwares don't have a point. |
| Black Shark 5 | JOYUI 13 | Shark Space โ Game settings โ Vibration | Turns off vibrations only in games |
On smartphones with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor (for example, Xiaomi 13 Ultra), there may be a bug: after turning off the vibration in the settings, it returns after rebooting, in which case only resetting the keyboard settings (see Method 4) will help.
Method 3: Turn off vibration for third-party keyboards (Gboard, SwiftKey, etc.)
If you use a keyboard from Google (Gboard), SwiftKey or other third-party, the vibration settings are hidden in its own menu. Consider Gboard, as it is most popular among Xiaomi users:
- Open any text field and call the keyboard.
- Click on the three-point icon (โฎ) top-panel.
- Select Settings โ Preferences.
- Scroll to the Vibration block when you press the keys and turn it off.
For other keyboards, the algorithm is similar, but the paths may differ:
- ๐น SwiftKey: Settings โ Sound and vibration โ Press vibration
- ๐น Samsung Keyboard (if installed): Settings โ Style and layout โ Press feedback
- ๐น Fleksy: Settings โ Vibration (only in the paid version)

Important! Some keyboards (like Chroom or Typewise) don't have built-in vibration settings and rely on system settings, in which case you'll have to use Method 2 (global shutdown) or install a different keyboard.
Method 4: Reset keyboard settings to factory
If the vibration is not turned off either through the keyboard settings or system settings, there may have been a software failure, in which case resetting the keyboard settings will help, which is a method that is safe and does not affect other data on the phone.
Instructions for the standard Xiaomi keyboard:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- In the search bar, type in the Keyboard and select the Mi Keyboard (or Gboard if you use it).
- Click Storage โ Delete data (or Reset settings).
- Confirm the action and restart the smartphone.
What if the vibration returns after the reset?
On Redmi with MIUI 12 and below, an additional step may be required:
Settings โ System and device โ Additional โ Resetting settings โ Resetting application settingsโ ๏ธ Warning: Resetting your keyboard will remove all saved words from the user dictionary and your input history. If you use non-standard words or jargon, pre-export them through your keyboard settings. โ Dictionary โ Export (if the function is supported).
Method 5: Use ADB-commands for forced shutdown (for advanced)
If all previous methods failed, there is a โheavy artilleryโ โ turning off vibrations via ADB. This method requires connecting a smartphone to a computer and basic command line knowledge. It is suitable for Xiaomi on Android 11-14 and allows you to turn off vibration at the system level, even if the manufacturer hid this option.
What you'll need:
- ๐น Computer with Windows/macOS/Linux and installed Xiaomi drivers.
- ๐น Included Debugging by USB on the phone (Settings) โ The phone. โ Version. MIUI โ 7 times press the version number โ return to โ For developers โ Debugging by USB).
- ๐น Utility. ADB (You can download from the official website of Android Developers).
Step-by-step:
- Connect your smartphone to your computer via USB and select File Transfer mode.
- Open the command prompt (or Terminal on macOS/Linux) and type: adb devices If the device appears in the list, go further. If not, check the drivers and permissions on the phone.
- Enter the command to turn off the keyboard vibration: adb shell settings put system haptic_feedback_enabled 0
- To turn off vibration when typing: adb shell settings put system vibration_intensity 0
- Reboot your smartphone: adb reboot
To return the vibration, replace the 0 by 1 commands.

More tips: How to avoid vibration returning after updates
Many Xiaomi users are faced with the fact that after updating MIUI, the vibration of the keyboard is turned on again, this is due to the fact that the system resets some settings to the default values.
- ๐น Turn off automatic updates MIUI: Settings โ The phone. โ Updating the system โ โฎ โ Settings โ Auto-update (off)
- ๐น Use alternative keyboards (such as Gboard or AnySoftKeyboard) where vibration settings are not dependent on system updates.
- ๐น Create a backup of settings through Settings โ Additionally. โ Backup and reset โ Local backup, which will help you quickly recover the parameters after resetting.
- ๐น Install the patch through Magisk (root rights required). The Disable Haptic Feedback module permanently shuts down vibration at the core level.
If you often experience a return of vibration, try to roll back to the old version of MIUI via Fastboot.Downgrad instructions can be found on the 4PDA or XDA Developers forums (specify the exact phone model!).
