Xiaomi Redmi 10 is one of the most popular budget smartphones, but its loud keyboard sound can be annoying in quiet rooms or at night. Even if you put your phone in silent mode, the keys still emit clicks when dialing. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to turn off keyboard sounds, including hidden MIUI settings and solutions for third-party keyboards.
Compounding the problem, different versions of the firmware (MIUI 12, 13, 14) have different settings menus, so we tested each method on Redmi 10 with the latest updates and highlighted the only one-stop-shop that works even after resetting, and we also looked at why the sound can come back on its own and how to prevent it.
Why the keyboard sound doesnβt turn off through silent mode
Many users mistakenly think that switching your phone to No Sound or Vibration will automatically turn off all system sounds, but in fact, keyboard sounds are controlled separately, and they are classified as System Sounds, not notifications or media.
- π MIUI The keyboard divides sounds into 4 categories: media, notifications, alarms and system.
- π± Xiaomiβs standard keyboard (com.miui.miuiboard) has its own sound settings, independent of system-wide.
- π Updates MIUI Sometimes reset the sound settings to the default values (especially after major updates).
If you've previously turned off the keyboard sound, but it's back, it's probably the automatic firmware update, so you'll have to reset it, and now we'll get to the practical ways.
Method 1: Turn off the sound in the settings of the standard MIUI keyboard
This is the most reliable method for Redmi 10 owners, as it works directly with the system keyboard.
- Open any application where the keyboard appears (such as Notes or Messages).
- Touch the gear badge (βοΈ) on the keyboard to open its settings.
- Go to Sound and Vibration (or Keyboard Settings β Sound in older versions of MIUI).
- Turn off the switches: π Keystroke sound π Vibration upon pressing (optional)
If you don't have a gear icon on your keyboard, you have a third-party keyboard (like Gboard), in which case you go to Method 2.
Make sure the keyboard is active in the text field
Check out the MIUI version (Settings β About the phone)
Close all background applications (they can block settings)
Restart your phone if the sound doesnβt turn off.-->
β οΈ Attention: B MIUI 14 The path to keyboard settings has changed. If you don't find the Sound section, try an alternative path: Settings β Additionally. β Language and input β Current keyboard β Settings β Sound.
Method 2: Configure sounds in Gboard (Google keyboard)
If you use Gboard, the algorithm will be different, and this keyboard is popular with Xiaomi users because of its advanced features, but its settings are hidden deeper:
- Open any text box and call Gboard.
- Click on the profile icon (or three dots) β Settings.
- Go to Settings β Sound when pressed.
- Select No Sound or move the slider to the off position.
Gboard also allows you to turn off vibration and sound with a long press (for second-level characters).
| keyboard | The path to sound settings | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Standard MIUI | The gear on the keyboard. β Sound. | May be reset after updates |
| Gboard | Profile β Settings β Sound when pressed | Requires an Internet connection for synchronization |
| SwiftKey | Settings β Sounds and vibrations | Supports individual keyboard sounds |

If you can still hear it after turning off the sound in Gboard, clear the app cache in your Android settings. Go to Settings β Apps β Gboard β Storage β Clear the cache.
Method 3: Globally shutting down system sounds in MIUI
If previous methods didnβt work, you can try to turn off all system sounds through the MIUI settings menu. This is a radical way, since it will block not only the keyboard, but also other interface sounds (for example, when you lock the screen).
Instructions:
- Go to Settings. β Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down to the System Sounds section.
- Turn off the switches: π Pressing sound π Lock sound (optional)
This method doesn't always work for the keyboard, as some versions of MIUI ignore the global settings for text input. If the sound is still there, go back to Method 1.
β οΈ Attention: B MIUI 13 and later, disabling system sounds may cause sound to be lost in some games (e.g., in PUBG If you notice this problem, turn the sounds back on and use alternative methods.
Method 4: Use Do Not Disturb (DND) Mode
MIUIβs Do Not Disturb mode allows you to flexibly manage sounds, including the keyboard, which is suitable if you want to turn off sounds only at certain times (e.g. at night).
How to set up:
- Open Settings β Sound and vibration β Do not disturb.
- Click the Schedule and set the activation time (for example, from 23:00 to 7:00).
- In the Rules section, select Quiet Mode.
- Activate the option to turn off system sounds.
Now, at a specified time, all keyboard sounds will automatically turn off, and the rest of the time will remain active, a method that is convenient for those who do not want to constantly turn on / off sounds manually.
What if DND mode does not turn off the keyboard sound?
Method 5: Disabling audio via ADB (for advanced users)
If none of the above methods worked, you can use the Android debugging bridge (ADB), a radical way that requires connecting the phone to a computer, but it is guaranteed to turn off keyboard sounds at the system level.
Step-by-step:
- Turn on Developer Mode on Redmi 10: Go to Settings β About Phone. Click 7 times on MIUI until the notification βYouβve become a developerβ appears.
Settings β Additional β For Developers
USB debugging
ADB-driver
adb shell settings put system sound_effects_enabled 0It will turn off all system sounds, including the keyboard.
adb shell settings put system sound_effects_enabled 1This method saves settings even after reboots and MIUI updates, but requires caution β incorrect ADB commands can disrupt the system.

Use ADB only if other methods have not worked. Before executing commands, back up your data via Settings β Additional β Backup and Reset.
What to do if the sound of the keyboard comes back on its own
Many Xiaomi Redmi 10 users are faced with the keyboard sound suddenly turning on again.
- π Automatic updates MIUI (especially the transition to a new version, for example, MIUI 12 on MIUI 13).
- π± Resetting settings after failure or flashing.
- π§ Conflict with SEOs (e.g. Security or Cleaner from Xiaomi).
Decisions:
- Check the keyboard settings again (see Method 1).
- Turn off automatic optimization in Settings β Battery and Performance β Optimization.
- Set a third-party keyboard (such as Gboard) and turn off the sounds in its settings.
- Reset the keyboard app settings: Settings β Applications β Application management β MIUI Keyboard β Storage β Reset settings
If the problem is repeated regularly, consider turning off automatic MIUI updates (although this is not recommended for security reasons).
