The audio signal when Xiaomi devices are turned on is a standard feature that confirms successful system boot. However, for many users, this sound becomes annoying, especially if the equipment is in the bedroom or office. Unlike other brands where it takes 2 clicks to turn off the start tune, in the Xiaomi ecosystem this process may require deep customization or even editing system files.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to turn off the sound when turned on for different types of devices, from smartphones on MIUI 14/15 to Mi TVs and Redmi Smart TVs. Particular attention will be paid to hidden settings that the manufacturer does not advertise, as well as safe workarounds for models where standard methods do not work. If you are looking for a solution for your model, use the compatibility table at the end of the section with instructions.
Why Xiaomi doesnβt just turn off the start sound?
Xiaomiβs corporate policy on system sound is based on three principles:
- π Branding: a soundscreen is part of a corporate identity, like a logo when downloaded, and the company considers this an element of recognition (similar to Samsung or Apple).
- π οΈ Diagnostics: For service centers, sound signals successful hardware loading (e.g., speakers).
- π Security: On some models, the sound cannot be turned off without root rights β it is a protection against counterfeiting devices (relevant for the markets of Southeast Asia).
As a result, users are faced with a situation where the option to turn off the sound is either hidden in the depth of the menu or not at all. For example, on Mi TV 4S and Redmi Smart TV X before 2022, the sound was βsewnβ into the firmware and removed only through ADB. New models (2023-2026) have a switch, but it does not work on all regional versions of the software.
β οΈ Attention: On devices with MIUI Global and MIUI Europe: Some methods of disabling audio can lead to resetting of Widevine certificates L1 (Responsible for Netflix playback in HD). Before you change your system files, check the Widevine status in the app. DRM Info.
Method 1: Standard settings (for Xiaomi smartphones)
If your smartphone runs MIUI 12-15, try turning the sound off through the regular menu first, a method that works on most models except the POCO F and Black Shark lines, where the sound is tied to the game mode.
Instructions:
- Open the Settings. β Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down to the System Sounds section.
- Turn off the Sound slider when you turn on/off (on some firmware, the item is called the Load Melody).
- Restart the device so that the changes take effect.
If you donβt have Sound when you turn on the menu, your model is using an alternative path. For example, on the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ and Xiaomi 12T, the option is hidden in Settings β Additional β Special Features β Notifications and Sounds.

Method 2: Disconnect via Do Not Disturb and No Sound modes
If the system sound doesnβt turn off directly, you can bypass the restriction with silent modes, a technique that works for Xiaomi smartphones and tablets, but doesnβt work on TVs.
Algorithm:
- π± Go to Settings. β Notifications and status bar β Don't disturb mode".
- π Select Schedule Settings and add a rule with time covering the time of on (for example, from 00:00 to 01:00).
- π΅ In the section Sounds and vibrations of this rule, mark Disable system sounds.
- π Save the settings and restart the device.
To permanently turn off the sound, you can use No Sound Mode (the bell icon in the notification curtain), but this method blocks all notifications, including alarm clocks and calls, so it is not suitable for everyone.

Method 3: ADB-Teams for Advanced Users
If the standard methods donβt work, youβll need to use Android Debug Bridge (ADB). This method requires connecting the smartphone to the PC, but does not violate the warranty and does not require root rights. MIUI, including POCO and Black Shark.
Step-by-step:
- Download ADB Tools and unpack the archive.
- Turn on USB Debugging on your smartphone: Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version (click 7 times), then go back to Settings β Additional β For Developers β Debugging over USB.
- Connect the phone to your PC and in the command line (in the folder with ADB) type: adb devices Make sure that the device is defined.
- Execute the command to turn off the sound when you turn on: adb shell settings put global power_sound_enabled 0
- Reboot your smartphone.
To return the sound, use the same command, replacing 0 by 1. If after executing the command the sound still plays, then on your model it will be sewn at bootanimation level - you will need to edit system files (see Method 5).

Method 4: Turn off the sound on Xiaomi TVs (Mi TV, Redmi TV)
On Xiaomi TVs, the algorithm for turning off the start sound is different from smartphones, depending on the PatchWall firmware version:
- πΊ On Mi. TV 4/4S/4X (2018β2021 d.) the sound is switched off through the settings β Sound. β Systemic sounds β Sound on activation.
- π΄ On Redmi Smart. TV X/A (2022β2026 d.) option hidden in Settings β The device β General. β Launch sound.
- π₯οΈ On Google models TV (Like Mi. TV Q2 2023) Sound tied to Android TV Launcher and only shuts down via ADB.
For PatchWall TVs older than 2022, use this ADB command:
adb shell settings put global boot_sound_enabled 0On Xiaomi firmware TVs until 2021, disabling the audio via ADB could result in a reset of the DRM licenses for Netflix and Disney+.
| Model TV set | PatchWall version | Method of turning off the sound | Need an ADB? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi TV 4S 55" | 1.0β2.5 | Settings β Sound β Systemic Sounds | No. |
| Redmi Smart TV X55 | 3.0β3.5 | Settings β Device β General | No. |
| Mi TV Q1 55" | 4.0+ (Google TV) | ADB-team boot_sound_enabled | Yes. |
| Mi TV A Pro 43" | 2.0β2.9 | There's no regular way. | Yes (editing /system/media) |
Method 5: Edit system files (root only)
If all previous methods fail, you have to delete or replace the audio files in the system partition, which requires root rights and is only suitable for advanced users. Wrong actions can lead to a device blink!
Instructions for smartphones:
- Get root access with Magisk or TWRP.
- Use a root-enabled file manager (such as Root Explorer or FX File Explorer).
- Go to /system/media/audio/ui/.
- Find poweron.ogg files or bootanimation_sound.mp3 and rename them to poweron.ogg.bak (or delete them).
- Reset the device.
For TVs, the path to files may be different: /system/media/boot_sound.mp3 or /vendor/media/boot.ogg. Before deleting, back up your files!
β οΈ Note: Some Xiaomi models (e.g. Mi) 11 Ultra and Mi TV P1) The sound when turned on is duplicated in the file bootanimation.zip, languid /system/media/. To completely remove the sound, you will have to edit this archive or replace it with an βemptyβ one (without a soundtrack).
π‘
If after deleting the system files, the sound is still played, check the /product/media/ folder - on the new Xiaomi firmware, some of the sounds are transferred there.
Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
When turning off the sound when turned on, users often face typical problems:
- π The sound is back after the update MIUI: The firmware restores standard files, so the solution is to repeat the shutdown procedure or use Magisk modules to block the update of system sounds.
- π Only the melody is turned off, but the click remains: This is the hardware sound of the speakers when initialized. It can only be removed physically (by turning off the speakers in the service center).
- π΅ ADB Does not apply settings: Check if debugging is enabled USB factory-unlock (OEM Unlock. Some models also require switching off MIUI Optimization in the Developer Settings.
If you use custom firmware (like LineageOS or Pixel Experience), the sound may disappear after installation, but on some builds it is replaced with standard Android sound, which is disabled through Settings β Sound β System Sounds.
π‘
On devices with HyperOS (new firmware Xiaomi, which replaced the new version) MIUI) The sound when turned on is turned off through Settings β Personalization β The sounds of the system. ADB-team MIUI HyperOS does not work!
