Why is the alarm on the Poco X3 not switched off in the standard way?
You woke up to the annoying alarm on the Xiaomi Poco X3, reached for the phone to turn it off β but the screen does not respond to touch, and the sound continues to tear the eardrums. Familiar situation? Unlike many smartphones, where there is enough swipe on the screen, MIUI (especially in versions 12-14) sometimes behaves unpredictable.
First, Poco X3 has the default activation of Settings β Display β Ambient display β Lift to wake, which conflicts with alarm clock gestures. Second, if the phone is down or in the case, the sensor may simply not work. Third, the alarm clock freeze bug is a common problem on devices with MIUI 13.0.4+ after updates. And finally, some users are faced with the alarm clock continuing to ring even after pressing the button, the sensor may simply not work.
In this article, we will not only discuss the standard ways to turn off the alarm clock, but also emergency methods that will work even with a hung screen or a discharged battery, and you will also learn how to permanently eliminate the problem with the βnon-switchedβ alarm clock through system settings.
Method 1: Standard shutdown through the alarm screen
If the smartphone responds to touch, and the alarm clock interface is displayed correctly, use the basic method:
- π Swipe up or right - most of them MIUI You just swipe your finger in any direction to turn off the signal.
- βΉοΈ Cancel button β if you have a dialog box with two buttons (Delay and Cancel) on the screen, click on the second button!
- π Double press β on some custom firmware (for example, Pixel Experience), the alarm clock is turned off by a double tap on the screen.
If the screen doesnβt respond to the first touch, try:
- Hold your phone to your ear as if you were taking a call β sometimes it works with a proximity sensor.
- Press the physical power button 1-2 times (do not hold!) This can wake the sensor.
- Connect the charger β if the battery is discharged to 5% or below, the system may block some of the functions.

If the alarm goes off too soon or too late, check the time settings in Settings β Additional β Date and Time. Turn off the Auto option and select the time zone manually β this solves the synchronization problem for 70% of devices.
Method 2: Turn off through volume buttons (emergency method)
When the screen doesnβt respond and the alarm keeps screaming, the combination of physical buttons will save you, and this method works on all versions of the Poco X3 (including the Poco X3 Pro and the Poco X3 NFC), regardless of the firmware:
- Hold the Volume Down button for 3-5 seconds and the sound should gradually fade.
- If the first step didnβt work, try pressing the power button at the same time. + Increased volume (Power) + Volume Up) and hold 5 seconds. This will trigger a reset menu where the alarm clock will automatically turn off.
- In extreme cases, press both Volume Up + Volume Down buttons for 7-10 seconds, which will force all media sounds (including the alarm clock) to be silenced.
β οΈ Note: After using the second or third method, the phone may restart. If this occurred during an important process (for example, a system update), wait for the full load. MIUI β You can't interrupt it!
Check if the volume button is stuck (wiggle your finger)
Make sure the cover does not block access to the buttons
Try pressing buttons with a lot of force (sometimes contacts are oxidized)
Connect your phone to charge β sometimes it will wake up the system-->
Method 3: Forced Stop through the Notification Menu
If the alarm rings but the screen is unlocked and reacts to touch, try turning it off through the notification curtain. This method works on MIUI 12-14 and does not require root rights:
- Swipe your finger down from the top of the screen to open the notification bar.
- Find a notification with the name of the alarm clock (for example, βAlarm clock: 7:00β) and swipe it left or right.
- Click on the Undo or Delete button (depending on the MIUI version).
If the notice is not displayed:
- π Reboot the phone by holding the power button β the alarm will turn off automatically.
- π± Open the Clock app manually and brush the active alarm in the Alarms menu.
Screen swipe | Volume buttons |Through notifications |Clock app |Reboot-->
Method 4: Turn off all sounds via Do Not Disturb mode
If the alarm goes off at the wrong time (such as during an important call or meeting) and standard methods don't work, activate Do Not Disturb (DND) mode. This method drowns out all sounds, including alarm clocks, so use it only in extreme cases.
How to turn on:
- Open Settings β Sound and vibration β Do not disturb.
- Activate the switch at the top of the screen.
- Select the option for an indefinite period or set a timer (for example, 15 minutes).
β οΈ Attention: In mode DND won't work:
- π¨ Alarms (including repetitive alarms)
- π Calls (except selected contacts if configured)
- π¬ Notifications from messengers
To keep alarm clocks running in DND mode:
- Go to Settings β Sound β Do not disturb β Permissions.
- Enable the alarm clock option (it may be called the clock in some versions of MIUI).
What if DND doesn't turn off? If it doesn't automatically deactivate after Do Not Disturb mode is activated, try it.
Method 5: Removing the alarm clock via ADB (for advanced users)
If the alarm is active and does not turn off any of the above methods, you can force it to be removed via Android Debug Bridge (ADB).
Instructions:
- Install ADB Tools on your PC.
- Turn on USB Debugging on your phone: Settings β About Phone β MIUI version (click 7 times to activate Developer Mode), then Settings β Additional β Developers β Debugging over USB.
- Connect Poco X3 to your computer and execute the commands at the terminal: adb devices adb shell am force-stop com.android.deskclock adb shell pm clear com.android.deskclock
β οΈ Attention: pm clear will reset all alarm clock and timer settings:
- π You will have to reset the repeat alarm clocks.
- π± The Watch app may temporarily work unstable (reset).

Use ADB only if other methods have failed, and incorrect commands can cause a system to crash or delete important data.
How to get rid of alarm clock problems on Poco X3
If the alarm clock doesn't turn off regularly or it crashes, the problem is the settings.
| Problem. | Decision | Where to set up |
|---|---|---|
| The alarm clock doesn't swipe off. | Turn off "Rise to wake up" | Settings β Display β Raise to wake up |
| The alarm clock sound is too quiet. | Increase the volume of the media to the maximum | Settings β Sound β Media Volume |
| The alarm clock is not working in time. | Turn off automatic time synchronization | Settings β Additional β Date and time |
| The screen doesn't respond to touch. | Reset your gesture settings | Settings β Display β Full-screen display β Reset |
| The alarm clock turns on on itself. | Delete the cache of the "Clock" app | Settings β Applications β Application Management β Watches β Clear cache |
Additional advice:
- π Update regularly MIUI β In new versions, bugs with alarm clocks are fixed (the last stable firmware for Poco). X3: MIUI 14.0.4).
- π± Use third-party alarm apps (like Google Clock or Sleep as Android) if the standard one doesnβt work properly.
- π Watch the battery charge β at levels below 10%, the system can ignore alarm clock shutdown commands.
