Vibration when typing on Xiaomi can be a useful feature for tactile feedback, but for many users it interferes with the thought process, reduces the speed of printing or just annoying. This is especially true for owners of budget models Redmi or Poco, where the vibration response is often set too intensively. Fortunately, MIUI has several ways to disable this feature โ both through system settings and using third-party tools.
In this article, weโll look at all the available methods, from standard keyboard settings to hidden developer settings and even alternative keyboards. Itโs important to consider that the interface may vary slightly depending on the version of MIUI (12, 13, 14) and smartphone model โ for example, the Xiaomi 13 Pro will have a different path to vibration settings than the Redmi Note 10.
If you want to not just turn off the vibration, but completely customize it for yourself โ there is a bonus section at the end of this article with fine calibration of the tactile response. And for those who have encountered a bug (for example, the vibration does not turn off after an update), we have prepared separate solutions.
1. Disabling vibration in the settings of the standard keyboard
The most obvious and quick way is to use the built-in Gboard keyboard settings (if it is set by default) or the standard one. MIUI-Most people don't even know that you can adjust your vibration response right here without digging through the system menus.
The instructions are relevant for MIUI 12-14 and most Xiaomi models, including Redmi Note 11, Poco X5, Xiaomi 12T and others. If you have custom firmware (for example, xiaomi.eu), the path may vary slightly.
- ๐ฑ Open any application where you can type text (such as Messages or Notes).
- โ๏ธ Click on the gear icon (โ๏ธ) on the keyboard to open its settings.
- ๐ In the menu, find the Sound and Vibration section (or the Tactile Response in the new versions).
- ๐ซ Translate the slider Vibration when pressed to the off position.
If you have a Gboard installed, the path will be: Settings โ Sound when pressed โ Vibration when pressed. In some versions of MIUI, the standard keyboard may be called the Xiaomi Keyboard or Mi Keyboard.
โ ๏ธ Note: On some models (e.g. Black Shark 5), the keyboard vibration is tied to the system vibration settings. If the keyboard is not available, move to the next section.
Is the keyboard open in the text field?
Is the standard Xiaomi keyboard used instead of a third-party one?
Is the software updated to the latest version (older versions of MIUI may not have an option)?
Are the sound settings checked in the system menu?
-->
2. System vibration settings in MIUI
If the keyboard's vibrations are not turned off, the problem may lie in MIUI's global parameters, because some firmwares have a tactile response tied to the overall system vibration setting, such as the Xiaomi Mi 11 or Redmi K50 models on MIUI 13.
To completely disable vibration when typing through system settings, follow the following steps:
- Go to Settings. โ Sound and vibration.
- Choose Vibration (or Tactile Effects in the newer versions).
- Turn off the option of Vibration on touch or Vibration interface.
- To completely disable, also check the Vibration section when typing (if any).
Some devices (e.g. Poco F4) may need to disable all vibration effects, including notifications and calls. If critical, use alternative methods in the following sections.
| Xiaomi model | MIUI version | The path to vibration settings |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10 Pro | MIUI 12.5 | Settings โ Sound โ Vibration when touched |
| Xiaomi 12 | MIUI 13 | Settings โ Sound and vibration โ Tactile effects |
| Poco X3 Pro | MIUI 12 for Poco | Settings โ Additional โ Vibration |
| Black Shark 4 | JoyUI (based on MIUI) | Settings โ Sound โ Interface Vibration |
โ ๏ธ Attention: On devices with MIUI 14 (e.g. Xiaomi 13 Lite) The path to vibration settings can be hidden behind an additional menu.If you don't find an option, try searching by settings (the magnifying icon in the upper right corner).

3. Disable vibration through the developer settings
If standard methods don't work, you can try turning off the vibration through the developer menu, which is suitable for power users because it requires activation of hidden functions, but it often works where other methods are powerless, such as the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 or Redmi K40 with custom firmware.
First, you need to turn on the developer mode:
- ๐ฑ Go to Settings. โ The phone.
- ๐ง Find the item Version. MIUI and press it 7 times in a row.
- ๐ You will receive a notification: You have become a developer!.
Now open Settings โ Additional โ For developers and follow the following steps:
- ๐ Find the option to turn off vibration when touching (or Haptic feedback in English version).
- ๐ซ Move the slider to the off position.
- ๐ Restart the device to apply changes.
On some devices (like Poco F3), you may need to turn off Vibration when typing in the same menu. If you donโt have the option, try resetting your keyboard to factory settings (more on this in the next section).
๐ก
If the developer menu doesn't open after 7 taps, check if the meter has reset, sometimes you need to click faster or more accurately on the MIUI version.
4. Reset keyboard settings to factory
Sometimes the vibration of typing doesn't turn off because of a keyboard failure, which can happen after you update MIUI or install third-party themes, and then resetting the keyboard to factory values will help.
The procedure is secure and does not affect other data on the device (photos, contacts, messages).
- ๐ฑ Open the Settings. โ Annexes โ Application management.
- ๐ Find the Xiaomi Keyboard (or Gboard if you use it) in the list).
- ๐๏ธ Press Warehouse. โ Clear the data and confirm the action.
- ๐ Reboot your smartphone.
After the reboot, the keyboard will return to its standard settings, and the vibration should turn off when typing. If the problem persists, try reinstalling the keyboard via Google Play (for Gboard) or updating MIUI to the latest version.
โ ๏ธ Note: On some devices (e.g. Xiaomi Mi) 10T) Keyboard reset can cause the user vocabulary to be lost. To avoid this, pre-backup the keyboard settings โ Dictionary โ Exports.
What if the reset didn't help?
5.Use of third-party keyboards without vibration
If none of the above methods worked, the radical solution is to install a third-party keyboard that shuts down the vibration by default or is easily customizable, which is also a good option for those who want more features than the standard MIUI keyboard offers.
Here are the best alternatives with the ability to turn off vibration:
- ๐น Gboard (Google) is the most popular keyboard with flexible vibration settings. โ Pressed sound โ Press vibration.
- โก SwiftKey (Microsoft) โ supports disabling tactile response in Settings โ Sound and vibration.
- ๐ Fleksy โ Minimalist keyboard without unnecessary effects, vibration is turned off in Settings โ Tipping.
- ๐ค AnySoftKeyboard โ open source, completely disabling vibration in Settings โ Vibration.
To install a third-party keyboard:
- Download it from Google Play.
- Go to Settings โ System โ Language and input โ Current keyboard.
- Select the keyboard installed and activate it.
- Open the keyboard settings and turn off the vibration.
On some devices (such as Xiaomi 12S Ultra) you may need to allow the keyboard to access special features in the security settings. If the keyboard does not appear in the list after installation, check if the MIUI Optimizer has blocked it (in the battery settings).
๐ก
The keyboard side not only solves the vibration problem, but often offers better autocomplete, themes, and gesture support.
Problems and bugs: why does the vibration not turn off?
Sometimes the vibration of typing doesn't turn off even after all the manipulations, and this can be due to software failures, conflicts, or firmware errors, and these are the most common causes and solutions.
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Vibration returns after rebooting | Failure in the system cache | Clean the cache in Settings โ Storage โ Clear the cache |
| Vibration option is not available in the settings | An outdated version of MIUI | Update the software in Settings โ About the phone โ System update |
| Vibration only works in some applications | Conflict with the subject of design | Reset the theme to standard in Settings โ Screen โ Theme |
| Vibration too weak/strong | Incorrect calibration of the vibromotor | Use EngineerMode to customize (Section 7) |
If the problem occurred after the MIUI update, try to roll back to the previous firmware version.
- Download the desired version of MIUI from the official Xiaomi website.
- Go to Settings. โ The phone. โ Updating the system โ Three points (โฎ) โ Select a firmware file.
- Select the downloaded file and confirm the rollback.
On devices with a Snapdragon processor (such as the Poco X4 Pro), a firmware rollback can result in a bootloader lock. Before the procedure, check if the bootloader is unlocked!
7. fine tuning vibration through EngineerMode (for advanced)
For those who want to not just turn off the vibration, but adjust its intensity, there is a hidden EngineerMode mode (engineering menu), which is suitable for devices on Qualcomm processors (for example, Xiaomi 11T or Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G).
To get into EngineerMode:
- Open the Phone app.
- Enter the code: ##4636###.
- In the menu that opens, select Hardware testing โ Vibrator test.
- Here you can test the vibrator and adjust the vibration force.
For deeper settings (for example, changing the duration of vibration) you will need to access the file Root and edit. /system/vendor/etc/haptic_feedback.conf. This is a risky procedure that can lead to a device blinking, so we do not recommend it without experience.
If you do, here are some basic options you can change (for power users only!):
Example of configuration haptic_feedback.conf
vibrator.strength=50 # Intensity (0-100)
vibrator.duration=20 # Duration in MS
keyboard.feedback=0 #0 - disabled, 1 - enabledโ ๏ธ Warning: Changing system files without Root could cause a crash MIUI. Before editing, make a backup copy through TWRP Or Mi Flash Tool.
