The vibration of unlocking the screen on Xiaomi smartphones is one of those little things that gets annoying over time, especially at night when the tactile response seems louder than usual, or in public places where unnecessary noise is undesirable. Fortunately, the manufacturer has provided several ways to turn off this feature, both through standard MIUI settings and using hidden developer settings.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods for Redmi, POCO and Mi devices based on MIUI 12-14 and Android 11-14. You will learn how to remove vibration not only when unlocking, but also when pressing buttons, and what to do if the standard settings do not work. For convenience, we have added screenshots from different versions of firmware and video instructions for visual perception.
Why does vibration when unlocking interfere?
At first glance, tactile feedback seems like a useful feature: it confirms that the screen is responsive to your touch, but it has a few drawbacks that make users look for ways to turn it off:
- ๐ Battery consumption: Vibration motors use energy, even if it's not very high, on weak models like Redmi. 9A or POCO C31) This can reduce battery life by 5-10%.
- ๐ด Nighttime use: In silence, the vibration seems louder and can wake you or others, especially if you check notifications in bed.
- ๐ฎ Conflict with games. In dynamic games (e.g., games, PUBG Mobile or Call of Duty: Excess vibration distracts from gameplay.
- ๐ ๏ธ Wearing of the machinery: In cheap models, the vibrating motor may eventually start to rattle or run unstablely.
Also, on some devices (such as the Xiaomi 12T or Redmi Note 11 Pro+), the vibration works even when you unlock your fingerprint, which lengthens the process and creates discomfort, and if you encounter one of these problems, then you will find a solution.
Method 1: Disconnecting through the basic MIUI settings
The easiest method is to use the standard settings menu, which is suitable for most Xiaomi devices on MIUI 12-14 and does not require superuser rights.
- Open the Settings app (the gear icon on the desktop).
- Go to the Sound and Vibration section (some firmware may refer to Sounds and Tactile Effects).
- Scroll down to the Vibration block and click on Vibration when touching.
- Turn off the slider near the Vibration item when unlocked (or Tactile Feedback when unlocked).
If your version of MIUI does not have a separate unlock point, try to turn off all vibrations in this section โ this will also remove the response when you click on the keyboard buttons and in the menu.
Open sound and vibration settings |Point "Vibration upon touch" found |Slip "Vibration upon unlock" disabled |Suppressed after reboot-->
โ ๏ธ Note: On certain devices (e.g, POCO F4 GT Xiaomi 13 Ultra after disabling vibration in the settings it can return after the update MIUI. In this case, use the method with the developer parameters.
Method 2: Using Developer Parameters
If the standard settings didn't work or the right item didn't work, try turning off the vibration through the developer menu, which is more flexible and allows you to fine-tune the tactile feedback.
First, you need to activate the developer mode:
- Go to Settings. โ The phone.
- Find the MIUI version and click on it 7 times in a row. You will be notified of becoming a developer!
- Return to the main settings menu and open a new Developer section (usually at the bottom of the list).
Now turn off the vibration:
- In the Developer section, find Touch Vibration or Tactile Feedback.
- Turn off the sliders: ๐ฑ Vibration when unlocked ๐ Vibration when pressing buttons (optional)
Restart the device to apply the changes.
What to do if there is no item "Vibration when unlocking"?
| Xiaomi model | Availability of the item in the settings | Is a Developer Regime Required |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 12 Pro+ | Yeah (on "Sound and Vibration") | No. |
| POCO X5 Pro | Yeah (in "Tactile Effects") | No. |
| Xiaomi 13 Lite | No. | Yes. |
| Redmi 10C | Yes (hidden in "Additional") | No. |
Method 3: Disconnect via ADB (for power users)
If previous methods have failed, you can use Android Debug Bridge (ADB), a deep-tuning tool that is suitable for devices with unlocked bootloader or without root rights.
You'll need:
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Computer with installed ADB-driver.
- ๐ฑ Included Debugging by USB on a smartphone (in settings for developers).
- ๐ USB-cable (preferably original).
Instructions:
- Connect your smartphone to your PC and open the command line (or Terminal on Mac/Linux).
- Enter the command to check the connection: Adb devices should appear the name of your device.
- Execute the command to turn off vibration when unlocking: adb shell settings put global haptic_feedback_enabled 0
- To turn off vibrations when pressing buttons: adb shell settings put global virtual_key_vibe 0
- Reset the device.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Teams ADB If you get the syntax wrong, it can cause a malfunction in the interface. Before you execute the commands, back up your data via Mi Cloud or locally.
๐ก
If the vibration returned after using ADB, check if the settings reset after the MIUI update. In this case, repeat the procedure or use the MacroDroid application to automatically apply commands.
Method 4: Third-party applications for vibration control
If you don't want to dig into the settings or use ADB, you can install a specialized app.
- ๐ ๏ธ MacroDroid โ allows you to create macros to turn off vibration in certain situations (for example, at night or in games).
- ๐ Vibration Tuner โ fine-tuning the strength and duration of vibration for different events.
- ๐ฑ Button Mapper โ Disables vibration for specific buttons (including unlocking).
Example of settings in MacroDroid:
- Create a new macro with trigger screen unlocked.
- Add the action Change the system setting โ haptic_feedback_enabled โ significance 0.
- Save and activate the macro.
The advantage of this method is flexibility, for example, you can only turn off vibrations at night or when you plug in your headphones, but note that some applications require root rights to work properly.
Method 5: Resetting settings to factory (extreme case)
If the vibration when unlocking appeared after updating MIUI or installing custom firmware, and you can not turn it off, resetting to factory settings will help, this method should be used only as a last resort, since it deletes all data from the device.
Instructions:
- Back up important data (photos, contacts, messages) through Settings โ About Phone โ Backup.
- Go to Settings โ Additional โ Recovery and Reset.
- Select Reset and confirm the action.
- After the reboot, set your smartphone as new and check if the vibration has disappeared.
โ ๏ธ Note: On some devices (e.g. Xiaomi) 11T Pro) after the reset, you may need to re-authorize in the Mi Account, otherwise some of the features (for example, themes or cloud storage) will not be available.
๐ก
Resetting is a radical method that should only be used if other methods have not worked, and 90% of the time, the problem is solved through MIUI settings or developer settings.
Frequent problems and their solutions
Sometimes users are faced with situations where the vibration does not turn off or returns after a reboot.
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Vibration returns after MIUI update | Resetting user settings with firmware | Repeat the shutdown via developer or ADB settings |
| No item "Vibration when unlocked" in the settings | Cut-down firmware (for example, for the European market) | Use ADB or third-party apps |
| Vibration only works when fingerprint unlocks | Separate setting for biometric scanner | Turn off vibration in Settings โ Password and security โ Fingerprint |
If your problem doesnโt make it to the table, check:
- ๐ Updates MIUI: Sometimes bugs with vibration are fixed in new versions of firmware.
- ๐ฑ Custom firmware: If you use informal firmware (e.g. Pixel Experience), the vibration settings may be elsewhere.
- ๐ ๏ธ Hardware malfunctions: If vibration becomes constant (even without touching), the vibration motor may be damaged.
