Vibration of the keyboard on Xiaomi smartphones can be useful for tactile feedback, but it often annoys users β especially with long-term typing. The constant jitter of the body is not only distracting, but also consumes battery power, and in some cases even causes discomfort in the fingers. Fortunately, you can turn off this feature in a few steps β both in the standard MIUI keyboard and in third-party applications like Gboard or SwiftKey.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to deactivate vibration, including hidden MIUI settings, features of different firmware versions (from MIUI 12 to MIUI 14) and nuances for popular models - from Redmi Note 10 to flagship Xiaomi 13.
Why does the vibration of the keyboard interfere?
At first glance, easy recoil when you press the keys seems to be a harmless function, but it has a few hidden downsides:
- π Increased battery consumption β a vibrating motor consumes energy even with short presses. According to tests, constant vibration can reduce battery life by 3-7%.
- π€² Discomfort with long-term dialing β some users complain of numbness of the fingers after an hour of active chat.
- π± Wear of machinery β although modern motors are designed for millions of cycles, heavy use can reduce their lifespan.
- π΅ Conflict with sounds β vibration can be superimposed on system signals (e.g., when an incoming call is made) creating a cacophony.
In addition, on some Xiaomi models (such as the POCO X3 Pro or Redmi 9T), the vibration is delayed due to processor optimization, making it useless for feedback, in which case disabling the function becomes a logical solution.
Method 1: Turn off vibration in a standard MIUI keyboard
If you use a pre-installed keyboard from Xiaomi (itβs called the MIUI Keyboard or Mi Keyboard), follow this instruction:
- Open any application to enter text (such as Messages or Notes).
- Touch the gear badge (βοΈ) on the keyboard to open its settings.
- Go to the section Settings of the keyboard β Sound and vibration.
- Turn off the switch next to Vibration when pressed (or Tactile Feedback in newer versions).
In some versions of MIUI (e.g. MIUI 13 for global firmware), the path may be slightly different:
Settings β Additional settings β Language and input β Current keyboard (Mi Keyboard) β Settings β VibrationApplication open for text | Pressed icon settings keyboard | Found section "Sound and vibration" | Vibration switch turned off-->
Important! On some devices (such as the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite) the sound of the keys may disappear after the vibration is turned off. To return it, check the Sound setting when you press the same menu.
Method 2: Configure vibration in Gboard (keyboard from Google)
Many Xiaomi users install Gboard as an alternative to the standard keyboard, and this app turns off the vibration in a different way:
- Open the phone settings.
- Go to System β Language and Entering β Virtual Keyboard.
- Select Gboard (could be called Google Keyboard).
- Slip on the settings β Sound when pressed.
- Turn off the Vibration option when pressed.
If your version of Gboard doesnβt have a separate option for vibration, try updating the app via Google Play. In older versions (before 2022), this feature could have been hidden under the Additional Settings menu.
What if there is no vibration option in Gboard?
Method 3: Turn off vibration for all keyboards through system settings
If you want to completely remove vibration for all keyboards and applications, you can use the system settings MIUI. This method is suitable for devices on MIUI 12/13/14, including Redmi Note 11, POCO F4 and other models.
- Open the Settings. β Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down to the Vibration section.
- Turn off the touch vibration switch (or tactile feedback).
β οΈ Attention! This method turns off vibration not only for the keyboard, but for all system interactions (for example, when unlocking the screen or pressing buttons in the menu.
On some devices (such as Xiaomi 12T), this item may be called UI Vibration. If you donβt have an option, try updating your firmware to the latest version β in older MIUI builds (before 2021), the vibration settings were less flexible.
Method 4: Using Do Not Disturb Mode to Temporarily Shut Down
If you only need vibration in certain situations (e.g. at night or at work), you can use Do Not Disturb (DND) mode, which does not completely turn off vibration, but allows you to control it on a schedule.
- Go to Settings. β Don't disturb.
- Select the Schedule or Rules (depending on the version of MIUI).
- Create a new rule and specify a time period (for example, from 22:00 to 8:00).
- In the rule settings, enable the option to turn off vibration.
This is useful if you want to automatically turn off vibrations in the office or while you sleep, but note that DND mode can also block notifications β set exceptions for important contacts in the same menu.
π‘
If you need to quickly turn the vibration on/off, add a Do Not Disturb shortcut to the Quick Settings Panel. To do this, swipe down the screen twice, tap the pencil icon and drag the DND to the active area.
Problems and Solutions: Vibration does not turn off
Sometimes users find that the keyboard vibration continues to work despite all the settings.
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Settings are not saved | Keyboard cache failure | Clear the cache of the Mi Keyboard or Gboard app in Settings β |
| Vibration returns after rebooting | Conflict with battery optimization | Add keyboard to auto-start exceptions: Settings β Battery β Battery Optimization |
| No vibration option in the settings | An outdated version of the keyboard | Update MIUI or keyboard via Google Play |
| Vibration only works in some applications | Individual application settings | Check the audio settings in the app itself (like WhatsApp or Telegram) |
If none of the methods helped, try resetting the keyboard settings to factory:
Settings β System β Resetting settings β Resetting application settingsβ οΈ Attention! On some custom firmware devices (e.g. Xiaomi.eu), the path to settings may be different. MIUI, Check the documentation for your assembly β it may have unique settings for vibration control.
Alternative keyboards without vibration
If standard methods donβt work, consider installing a third-party keyboard with flexible vibration settings. Here are the best options for Xiaomi:
- πΉ SwiftKey - allows you to adjust the strength and duration of vibration, there is a mode "no vibrationΒ».
- π± Fleksy β minimalist keyboard with the option of completely disabling tactile recoil.
- π Chroom is an open source keyboard where vibration can be turned off in Settings β Feedback.
- π¬ AnySoftKeyboard supports vibration customization for each input profile.
When choosing an alternative keyboard, pay attention to:
- π Security β Avoid little-known apps with suspicious permissions.
- π Language support β not all keyboards work well with Cyrillic.
- π Optimization for MIUI β Some keyboards may conflict with the shell.

Third-party keyboards often offer more options for tuning vibration than the standard Mi Keyboard. However, they can consume more RAM, which is critical for Redmi budget models with 3-4 GB of RAM.
