Voice voice-over of incoming calls on Xiaomi smartphones may seem like a useful feature for people with disabilities or in noisy conditions, but for most users it is more of an annoying element. Especially when the phone starts to pronounce the subscriber's name or number loudly at the most inopportune moment - in a meeting, in transport or at night. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not always make this option obvious in the settings, which causes users to spend hours searching for a solution.
In this article, weβll look at all the ways you can disable voice calls, from standard MIUI settings to hidden developer settings, how to remove voice assistant on both the new Xiaomi 14 and Redmi Note 13 models, and older devices with MIUI 12, and why the feature sometimes turns on on on its own and how to avoid it.
Why Xiaomi is calling inbound calls and can it be turned off?
The voice voice voice-over feature for incoming calls was introduced in MIUI back in 2018 as part of a special feature system, originally designed for users with visual problems, but has since become available on some firmware by default, and the reasons for activation can vary:
- π± Update the firmware - after upgrading to the new version MIUI some settings are reset;
- π Reset to factory settings β the function can be turned on automatically;
- π€ Xiaomi Voice Assistant β If Youβve Ever Used Xiao AI, He could activate the voiceover;
- π οΈ Hidden developer settings β sometimes the option is hidden in the engineering menu.
The good news is that you can turn off voice on any Xiaomi model, including Redmi, POCO and Black Shark, regardless of the MIUI version. Exceptions are only devices with heavily stripped-down firmware for some regions (for example, the Indian versions of Redmi 9A), but there are workarounds there.
Method 1: Disconnect via standard MIUI settings
The easiest method is to use the built-in features, which works on most devices with MIUI 12 and later.
- Open the Settings app** (cog icon).
- Go to the Special Features section (some firmwares call Universal Access).
- Select Sound and Vibration or Speech (depending on MIUI version).
- Find the option to voice incoming calls (may be called Voice Call Alert) and move the slider to the βOffβ position.
If you donβt have this item on your menu, try an alternative route:
Settings β Applications β Application Management β Three dots (menu) β Special features β Call voiceMake sure you have the latest version of MIUI.
- Check if the "Sight-impaired" mode is on.
Restart your phone before changing your settings.
- Turn off Bluetooth headphones (they can block changes)-->
On some models (Redmi 10, POCO M4 Pro), the option may be hidden under the name TalkBack β this is Googleβs standard voice assistant. Disable it if itβs active, but be careful: this will completely turn off all voice prompts in the system.
β οΈ Attention: On devices with MIUI for Russia (e.g. Xiaomi) 12T) The path to settings may be different. If you don't find an option, check the section Additional in special features.
Method 2: Through the settings of the phone application
Sometimes voice voice voice is controlled directly in the phonebook app, a technique that is particularly relevant for customized firmware devices (e.g. MIUI by Xiaomi.eu).
- Open the standard βPhoneβ application** (green handset).
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Settings.
- Go to the section Sound and vibration when calling (or call settings).
- Find the option Voice Alert or Voice subscriber name and turn it off.
If your phone uses an alternative dialer (like Google Phone), the path will be different:
Phone β Settings (β) β Sound and vibration β Call soundingWhat to do if there is no "voicing" item in the phone settings?
On POCO devices with POCO Launcher shell, sometimes resetting the Phone app helps:
Settings β Applications β Application Management β Phone β Storage β Clear dataMethod 3: Disconnect through the developer settings
If standard methods don't work, you'll have to use the hidden parameters of the system, which is a way to be careful, because the wrong changes can affect the stability of the phone.
First, you need to activate the developer mode:
- Go to Settings. β The phone.
- Find the MIUI version and click on it 7 times in a row (you will be notified βYou became a developerβ).
Now we are looking for parameters related to voiceover:
- π In the search for settings, enter tts (Text-To-Speech).
- π΅ Turn off Enable Call announcement or Enable Call Voice.
- π Restart the device to apply changes.
π‘
If there are too many items in the developer menu, use the filter: click on the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner and enter "announce" or "voice".
On some devices (Xiaomi Mi 11, Redmi) K40) You may need to disable MiuiVoiceControl via ADB-This is an extreme method, which we'll look at in the next section.
β οΈ Warning: Changing the settings in developer mode can cause the phone to run unstable. Do not change other settings unless you are sure of their purpose. MIUI may cause a freeze.
Method 4: Use ADB-Teams (for experienced users)
If all previous methods failed, the most radical way is to disable voice voice over Android Debug Bridge (ADB), which requires connecting the phone to a computer and executing several commands.
You'll need:
- π» Computer with Windows, macOS or Linux;
- π± USB-cable (preferably original);
- π§ Installed Xiaomi drivers and package ADB Tools;
- π Included debugging by USB phone-on.
Step-by-step:
- Activate USB Debugging in the developer settings (see previous section).
- Connect the phone to your computer and select File Transfer mode.
- Open the command line (Windows) or terminal (macOS/Linux) and type:
adb devices(Your device name should appear, which is a confirmation of your connection.)
adb shell settings put global call_announce_enabled 0This command disables voice calls at the system level.
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.voiceassistThis command completely disables the Xiaomi voice assistant service (a reboot may be required).
If the function is still active after the commands are executed, try the additional command:
adb shell settings put secure tts_enabled 0π‘
ADB-Teams are the most reliable way to turn off voice, but it requires technical skills. If you're not sure what you're doing, you'd better go to a service center.
Method 5: Resetting settings to factory (last resort)
If none of these things worked, the last option is a complete reset, which is a radical solution that will bring the phone back to its original state by deleting all the data, and only use it if:
- π Voice voice is interfering with work;
- π§ Other methods have not helped;
- π± You are willing to lose all data on your device (or backup your device).
Resetting instructions:
- Go to Settings β About Phone β Backup and Reset.
- Select Resetting (or Resetting to factory settings).
- Confirm the action and wait for the reboot (it will take 5-10 minutes).
After resetting, don't restore settings from the backup - this could return the problem. Set up the phone as a new device and check if the voiceover has disappeared.
β οΈ Note: On some models (Xiaomi Mi) A3, POCO X3 NFC) Reset may result in bootloader lock if the device has been unlocked before.Before resetting, make sure you have access to the Mi Account tied to the phone.
Compatibility table with different Xiaomi models
Not all methods work equally well across devices, and the table below shows how the methods are compatible with popular models:
| Model of the device | MIUI version | Standard settings | Phone settings | Developer mode | ADB-team |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 13/14 | 14.0+ | β | β | β | β |
| Redmi Note 12/13 | 13.0-14.0 | β | β οΈ (sometimes) | β | β |
| POCO F5/X5 | 14.0 (Global) | β | β | β | β |
| Black Shark 5 | 13.5 (JoyUI) | β | β | β | β |
| Redmi 9A/9C | 12.0-12.5 | β οΈ (stripped-down) | β | β | β |
If your model is not in the table, try methods in order from the simplest to the most complex. On new devices (Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Redmi Turbo 3) there are usually enough standard settings, whereas on old ones (Redmi 7, Mi 9T) ADB may be required.
