Voice time notifications on Xiaomi smartphones can be useful in some situations β for example, when you are busy and canβt look at the screen. However, for most users, automatic ads βNow 8 amβ or βNow 15:00β become an annoying factor, especially if they work at the wrong time. Fortunately, MIUI has several ways to turn this feature off, but they are hidden in different settings sections depending on the firmware version and device model.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods of turning off voice time on Xiaomi, including hidden settings for older versions of MIUI (up to 12.5) and new options in MIUI 13/14. You will also learn how to block notifications only at certain times of the day or for specific applications if you do not want to completely disable the function. All instructions are tested on Redmi Note 11/12/13 Pro, POCO F4/F5, Xiaomi 13/14 and other devices with pure MIUI (no custom firmware).
Why Xiaomiβs smartphone is voicing the time and can it be fixed?
The MIUI voice time alert feature was introduced in 2018 as part of the Xiaomi Assistant system, originally intended for users with disabilities or those who are on the move, but over time, the feature has become activated by default on new devices, which has caused a wave of complaints.
The main reasons why your Xiaomi might be voicing the time are:
- π Xiaomi Assistant is enabled β it is responsible for voice prompts, including time.
- β° Activated the function βVoice remindersβ in the settings of the clock or alarm clock.
- π± A third-party app is installed (e.g. Google Assistant or Bixby if youβve used smartphones from other brands).
- π Reset to factory settings β after that, all functions return to the default values, including voice notifications.
It is important to understand that the path to disconnect may differ on different versions of MIUI, for example, in MIUI 12 the option is hidden in the Special Options settings, and in MIUI 14 it was moved to the Sounds and Vibrations section, and some models (for example, the POCO X3 Pro) have a reduced setting due to custom firmware.
Method 1: Disconnect via Sound and Vibration settings (MIUI 13/14)
This is the easiest and most versatile way that works on most modern Xiaomi devices with MIUI 13 or MIUI 14 firmware. Instructions are suitable for Xiaomi 12/13/14, Redmi Note 11/12, POCO F4/F5 and others.
Steps to shut down:
- Open the Settings app (the gear icon on the desktop).
- Go to the section Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down to the Voice Notifications block and click on it.
- Find the option to voice the time (or voice reminders of the time) and move the slider to the βOffβ position.
- Save the changes and restart the device (optional, but recommended for settings).
βοΈ Preparing for voice time shutdown
If you donβt have Voice Notifications on your menu, your model is using a different method (see the following sections).
β οΈ Attention: On devices with MIUI for POCO (for example, POCO F3 GT) The path may be different. Try method 2 or 3.
Method 2: Deactivation through Special Opportunities (MIUI 12 and below)
On older firmware versions (MIUI 12.0-12.5), voice time is hidden in special features settings, a technique that is also suitable for some Redmi models with custom firmware (e.g. Redmi 9A or Redmi Note 10).
Instructions:
- Go to Settings. β Special facilities.
- Select the Hearing section (or Sound and Vibration if the first item is not available).
- Find the option Voice prompts or Voice Time.
- Turn off the slider next to Voice the current time.
- Go back to the main settings menu and check if notifications have disappeared.
If you donβt have this item on your menu, try an alternative route:
- π Go to Settings. β Annexes β Application management.
- π Find Mi Assistant (or Xiaomi Assistant).
- π Click Disable or Remove Updates (if the button is active).
| Xiaomi model | MIUI version | The path to settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 13/13 Pro | 14.0.5+ | Sounds and vibrations β Voice notifications | The option may be called the Voice Assistant. |
| Redmi Note 12 Pro+ | 13.0.12 | Special Opportunities β Hearing β Voice of Time | Reboot required |
| POCO F4 GT | 13.0.4 (POCO) | Google Settings β Services for People with Disabilities | Using Google Assistant |
| Redmi 10A | 12.5.2 | Applications β Mi Assistant β Disable | Cache reset may be required |
β οΈ Note: On some devices with MIUI 12 Disconnection through Special Options may reset after system updates, in which case you will have to repeat the procedure or use method 4 (disconnection through ADB).
Method 3: Disable via Google Assistant settings (if used)
If your Xiaomi smartphone is set to use Google Assistant instead of the standard Xiaomi assistant, voice timing notifications may come from there, which is true for devices with MIUI Global or firmware for the European market.
How to check and disable:
- Hold the Home button (or swipe diagonally from the corner of the screen) to call Google Assistant.
- Click on the profile icon in the upper right corner.
- Select Settings β Assistant β Routine actions.
- Find the Time Voice section and turn it off.
- Go back and check if the option Voice Alerts is active in Settings β Notifications.
If Google Assistant is not in use but voice notifications continue to sound, try resetting its settings:
- π± Go to Settings. β Annexes β Application management.
- π Find Google in the list.
- ποΈ Press Warehouse. β Clear the cache.
- π Reset the device.
π‘
If voice notifications are left after disabling Google Assistant, check the settings in the Watch app (Alarms β Voice Reminders).
Method 4: Using ADB for deep shutdown (for power users)
If standard methods don't work, you can turn off voice notifications via ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which is suitable for all versions of MIUI, but requires connecting the phone to a computer. Be careful: the wrong ADB commands can disrupt the system.
Step-by-step:
- Turn on Developer Mode on your phone: Go to Settings β About Phone. Click 7 times on MIUI Version until the "You're a developer" notification appears.
USB debugging
- Back to Settings β Additionally. β For developers.
- Turn on the debugging slider over USB.
- Connect the phone to the PC and execute the command to ADB: adb shell settings put secure enabled_accessibility_services com.miui.accessibility/com.android.accessibility.AccessibilitySettingsActivity Next: adb shell settings put global tts_enabled 0
If your Watch app doesnβt have such a item, try resetting it:
- π± Go to Settings. β Annexes β Application management β The clock.
- π Press Warehouse. β Clean up the data (this will remove all alarm clocks!).
- π Reboot the phone.
This method is particularly relevant for POCO devices where standard MIUI settings can be modified.
π‘
If voice notifications only appear when the alarm is triggered, the problem is in the Watch application, in which case it is enough to turn off the option in its settings, without affecting the system parameters.
What if nothing works? Alternative solutions
If all of these methods fail, the problem may be:
- π οΈ Custom firmware (such as LineageOS or Pixel Experience) where settings are available MIUI Replaced with standard Android.
- π Third-party app (check Settings) β Annexes β Permits β Microphone).
- π² System error (will help reset to factory settings).
Alternative steps:
- Check permissions for apps: Go to Settings β Privacy β Permissions β Microphone. Turn off microphone access for suspicious apps.
- Reset settings: Back up your data. Go to Settings β About Phone β Reset. Select Reset all settings (does not delete files, only settings).
Please contact Xiaomi for support:
- If the problem appears after the update, report the bug through Settings β Review.
If you use custom firmware, try reflashing the device to the official MIUI version via the Mi Flash Tool. Firmware instructions can be found on the 4PDA or XDA Developers forum.
