Moving to a new apartment, replacing a router or even changing the password from Wi-Fi — and your Xiaomi Vacuum (be it Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop P or the older Mi Robot Vacuum 1S model) loses touch with the application. Unlike smartphones, where changing the network takes a couple of clicks, vacuum cleaners require a complete reconfiguration of the connection, and the process differs depending on whether the old network is stored in the device’s memory, whether the Mi Home or Mi Lite Home is used, and regional features of the firmware.
In this article, we will look at all the current ways of connecting (including hidden features for the Chinese versions), explain why a vacuum cleaner may not see the new network, and give a checklist to diagnose typical errors. And also, we will reveal an undocumented method of resetting network settings without full flashing, which works even on locked devices. If you have already tried to connect and you have an error “Device offline” or “Connection failed (5004)”, here you will find a solution.
1.Preparation: What to do before changing the network
Before you rush to reconnect the vacuum cleaner, make sure the new network meets its requirements. Xiaomi robots (especially models up to 2022) are capricious about Wi-Fi options:
- 📶 Only 2.4GHz. vacuum cleaners don't support 5GHz networks - if your router is broadcasting in two bands, make sure 2.4GHz is on and has a unique name (SSID).
- 🔒 Type of encryption: only WPA2-PSK (AES). Network with WPA3, WEP or mixed-regime (WPA/WPA2) won't fit.
- 🌐 Regional restrictions: Chinese versions of vacuum cleaners (CN-Firmware can block the connection to foreign servers Xiaomi.
- 📱 The outdated Mi Home (up to 6.0) doesn't support new models. Update the app to the App Store or Google Play.
Also check if the router has a filter on. MAC-Addresses or customer isolation – these features block smart devices from connecting if you are using a Mesh system (e.g. Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi Router). AX6000), temporarily disconnect it and connect the vacuum cleaner directly to the main router.
⚠️ Note: If you change the network on a vacuum cleaner that was previously linked to another Xiaomi account (for example, bought used), first delete it from your old account through Settings. → Devices → [Select a vacuum cleaner] → Untie, otherwise the new tether won't work.
2. Method 1: Reconfigure via Mi Home (without reset)
If the vacuum cleaner is already linked to your account and has simply lost connection to the network (for example, after changing the router password), try to update the settings without completely resetting. This method works for most models, except for the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite (it has a simplified menu).
Instructions:
- Open Mi Home and go to the Devices tab.
- Select your vacuum cleaner (if it appears as “Offline”, click on it).
- Slip on the three points in the upper right corner → Settings of the device.
- Scroll down to the Wi-Fi block and select Change Network (or Update Wi-Fi, depending on the app version).
- Follow the Connection Wizard: Choose a new network, enter a password, and wait for the audible signal from the vacuum cleaner (one long horn).
If there is no “Change Network” item, then your model does not support this function – go to the reset method.
Vacuum is charged at least 20%
The router is within a radius of 2 meters from the vacuum cleaner
Wi-Fi and mobile data are enabled on the phone (for geolocation)

Method 2: Complete reset and link to the new network
If the vacuum cleaner does not respond to attempts to change the network through the application or was previously linked to another account, a hard reset will be required.
Steps for discharge:
- Turn off the vacuum cleaner with a long hold of the power button (3-5 seconds), then turn it on again.
- Press and hold the buttons Home (🏠) and power simultaneously for 10-15 seconds until you hear a voice message in Chinese (“Reset Wi-Fi”) or flash the indicator.
- After the discharge, the vacuum cleaner will emit an audible signal and start flashing orange - this means that it is ready for a new binding.
- In the Mi Home app, click “+” → “Add device” → select a vacuum cleaner model from the list.
- Follow the instructions of the wizard: connect the phone to the desired Wi-Fi network, enter the password and wait for synchronization.
For models with LDS-lidar (for example, Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro) after reset, you may need to calibrate the sensors. Put the vacuum cleaner on a flat surface and wait for the process to be completed (it will take 1-2 minutes).
| Model vacuum cleaner | Reset button combination | Sound signal |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Robot Vacuum 1S | Keeping food at home + 10 seconds | One long horn |
| Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro | Keeping Power + Spot Cleaning 12 seconds | Voice "Reset Wi-Fi" |
| Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop P | Hold power for 15 seconds (without the second button) | Blinking white + horn |
| Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite | Keeping power + Cleaning mode 8 seconds | Double signal |
⚠️ Attention: On vacuum cleaners with CN-After the reset, the firmware (Chinese version of the software) may require changing the region in Mi Home to Mainland China, otherwise the device will not find servers for authorization.

Method 3: Alternative connection via Mi Home Lite
If the main Mi Home app is persistently unable to see the vacuum cleaner (for example, due to regional restrictions), try Mi Home Lite, a lightweight version for limited-function devices, which is especially relevant for owners of Chinese versions of vacuum cleaners who do not want to sew the device into global software.
Step-by-step:
- Remove Mi Home (if installed) and download Mi Home Lite from the official source (link: https://home.mi.com/lite).
- Sign up or sign in to an existing Xiaomi account.
- Click "+" → "Add device manually" → enter the vacuum cleaner model (e.g., "vacuum.mop.2pro").
- Select China and follow the Connection Wizard. In the network selection phase, enter the new Wi-Fi.
- After successful binding, you can return to the main Mi Home app – the device will be available in both.
Mi Home Lite does not support some features (such as zoning or voice control), but allows you to at least connect the vacuum cleaner to the network.
What if Mi Home Lite does not find a vacuum cleaner?
5. Solving connection errors
Even with the right settings, the vacuum cleaner can produce errors, and here are the most common codes and their reasons:
- 🔴 Error 5004 is a wrong Wi-Fi password or 5GHz network. Check the character register in the password!
- 🔴 Error 10008 – vacuum cleaner can not connect to the servers of Xiaomi.Solution: change the region in Mi Home to “China” or use the device. VPN.
- 🔴 Error 1203 – Device blocked by previous owner Required to unlock via Mi Account Unlock Tool (only available for authorized service centers).
- 🔴 No network (flashes red) - vacuum cleaner can't see the network. SSID, and temporarily shut down WPA3 router-setting.
If the vacuum cleaner connects to the network, but immediately falls off, the problem may be in the DHCP-- Give the vacuum cleaner a static. IP In the router settings (find it) MAC-Address in the list of connected devices and reserve IP).
💡
If the vacuum cleaner persists, try creating a guest network on a router with a simple password (for example, “12345678”) and without WPA3 encryption.
6. Features for Chinese versions (CN-firmware)
Vacuum cleaners purchased in China (for example, through AliExpress or Taobao) often have a high-quality vacuum cleaner. CN-A firmware that blocks connections to foreign servers, in which case standard methods will not work, one of the solutions will be required:
- 🌏 Change region to Mi Home: In the app go to Profile → Settings → Region. Select Mainland China and confirm the change. Restart the app and try to reconnect.
- 🔄 Global firmware (for advanced users): Download the firmware for your model from the Xiaomi Community forum (for example, roborock_vacuum_mop_p_global_*.Connect the vacuum cleaner to the PC via USB-C (Use the MiRoBoTool firmware utility (instruction: GitHub).
- 🛡️ Use of the VPN: Install. VPN Connect to a server in Shanghai or Hong Kong, run Mi Home and re-assign.
Once you’ve successfully connected to the Chinese region, you can return to Mi Home the old region (like Russia), but some features (like voice assistant) may not work well.
💡
Chinese versions of vacuum cleaners (CN) often require additional authorization through a Chinese phone number, and if you don’t have one, use virtual number services (such as SMS-Activate) to obtain a confirmation code.
7. How to save cleaning cards after network change
One of the biggest fears of reconnecting a vacuum cleaner is losing stored maps of the space, which can be exported and imported through third-party tools.
Method 1: Mi Home Backup Tool (for Android):
- Install the utility from 4PDA.
- Connect to the vacuum cleaner via Mi Home (before reset!).
- In the utility, select “Export Maps” and save the file to your phone.
- After changing the network and re-binding, import the cards through Import Maps.
Method 2: Via Valetudo (for advanced users):
If your vacuum cleaner supports alternative Valetudo firmware (compatible model list: valetudo.cloud), you can:
- Install Valetudo through DustBuilder.
- Export cards in.svg or.png format via the web interface.
- After changing the network, download the cards back.
Importantly, these methods do not work on all models, for example, Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite does not support export cards due to firmware limitations.
