Many users face problems at the interface stage: the robot does not find the network, the Mi Home application gives an error, or the device constantly resets the connection. Most often this is due to incorrect router settings, outdated firmware version or banal errors when entering a password. In this article, we will analyze the unique connection algorithm specifically for the Essential model, which is different from the instructions for Xiaomi flagship vacuum cleaners (for example, S7 or S10+).
Compilation and preparation for connection
Before you start setting up, make sure you have everything you need. The standard Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop Essential box should include:
- 🤖 The robot vacuum cleaner itself with a battery installed
- 📶 Charging base (dock station) with power supply
- 🔌 Power cable (usually with a Euro fork, an adapter may be required)
- 🧹 Removable dust container + filter HEPA

If something is missing, it's a good idea to go to the store, for example, without a docking station, the robot can't automatically recharge, and without it, it can't recharge. Step-by-step instructions for connecting a robot to Wi-Fi
Now, to the most important step, which is to pair the vacuum cleaner with the network, follow the instructions strictly by the steps.
- Turn the robot on. Put it on the charger, it should automatically turn on (white light will light up). If not, press and hold the power button on the case for 3 seconds.
- Activate pairing mode. Press the Home button (with the image of the house) and Power for 5 seconds at the same time until you hear an audible beep (two short squeaks). The indicator on the robot will flash orange.
- Open Mi Home. Press. + → Add the device → Robot vacuum cleaners → Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop Essential.
- Select a Wi-Fi network. The app will offer a list of available networks. Select yours (2.4GHz only!) and enter your password. If the network is not listed, click Other Network and enter the name (SSID) manually.
- Wait until it's done. The robot will emit a long beep, and the app will have a message, "Connected successfully." It takes 1-3 minutes to complete.
If there is an error at any stage (for example, you failed to connect to the device), try:
- 🔄 Reboot the robot (hold the power button for 10 seconds).
- 📶 Restart router (disable power for 30 seconds).
- 📱 Remove the Mi Home app cache in your phone settings.
- 🔒 Make sure there are no Cyrillic characters or spaces in the Wi-Fi password.
What if the robot doesn’t find the network?
Setting up the robot after connecting
After successfully pairing with Wi-Fi, the robot will appear in the main menu of Mi Home, and now you need to configure it for your tasks:
- Update firmware. Go to Device Settings → Update firmware. If a new version is available, install it. This will fix bugs and add new features (such as support for cleaning areas).
- Calibration of sensors. The first time a robot can move randomly, which is normal, let it complete the first cleaning (preferably in an empty room) so it can map the room.
- Schedule settings: In the Cleaning section, you can set the days and times of automatic cleaning, for example, at 10:00 a.m. every day when you are not home.
- Cleaning modes. Choose the optimal mode: Quiet for night cleaning (low power, low noise); Balanced - standard mode (recommended); Turbo - maximum power (for carpets or heavy pollution); Wet cleaning - only for smooth surfaces (laminate, tiles).

Google Assistant:
