Robot vacuum cleaner Xiaomi Mijia 2C (model STYJ02YM) β One of the most popular cleaning assistants, but many users face a problem: the device comes with Chinese firmware and an interface in English or Chinese by default. Russian is often absent from the official Mi Home app, making it difficult to set up cleaning areas, schedules or voice commands. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods of Russification - from standard to alternative, and also explain why sometimes the language is reset after updates.
A contrasting example is that Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite owners get Russian-language firmware out of the box, while the Mijia 2C requires manual manipulation. This is due to Xiaomi's regional limitations β the STYJ02YM model is originally designed for the Asian market. However, you can bypass this restriction, and we will show how.
Before you start, check the firmware version of your vacuum cleaner.
- Open the Mi Home app.
- Select your Mijia 2C from the list of devices.
- Go to Settings β About the device β The firmware version.
If the version is older 3.5.9_0040, First, update the software through the app β this can automatically add support for Russian.
1.Official method: change of region in Mi Home
The easiest way is to change your Mi Home account region, which will force Xiaomi servers to load localized firmware, and importantly, it only works for accounts that are linked to China or Singapore, and if your account is registered in Russia, you first need to reconfigure it.
Instructions:
- π± Remove the Mi Home app and install it again.
- π When you first start, select Singapore (Singapore).
- π Register a new account or sign in through an existing one (unless it is linked to Russia).
- π€ Add a vacuum cleaner to the app through Add the device β Vacuum cleaner.
- π After connecting, check the presence of Russian in Settings β Language.
Why Singapore? Because Xiaomi provides multilingual firmware for the region, while China only has Chinese, and Russia only has English. If there is no Russian even after a change of region, try updating the software manually (see section 3).
π‘
If the vacuum cleaner "disappears" from the list of devices when you change region, don't panic. Just restart the application and repeat the search for devices through Add manually.
2. Russification through alternative software (Valetudo)
If the official method didnβt work, you can use Valetudoβs firmware, the open source software for Xiaomiβs robot vacuum cleaners, which requires more effort but gives you full control of the device, including the Russian interface and additional features (for example, integration with Home Assistant).
What you need:
- π₯οΈ Computer with Windows/Linux or smartphone with Termux.
- π USB-cable (Type-C or Micro-USB, depending on the model).
- π‘ Access to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (Valetudo does not work with 5 GHz).
- π οΈ Python and mirobo (installed via pip install mirobo).
Step-by-step:
- Download the latest version of Valetudo from the official website.
- Connect the vacuum cleaner to your computer via USB and turn on the firmware mode (press the Home button for 5 seconds until the indicator flashes).
- Start the command in the terminal: python -m mirobo discover --handshake=1 This will receive a device token (needed for authorization).
- Switch Valetudo through the web interface http://[IP_vacuum cleaner] by selecting a firmware file with Russian localization.
Important: Once you install Valetudo, you will lose access to the official Mi Home app, which can only be returned through a full vacuum cleaner reset.
Download firmware with Russian |Install Python and mirobo|Connect vacuum cleaner to USB|Write token device |Disable antivirus (can block firmware)
-->
3. Manual loading of localized firmware
If previous methods have failed, you can manually download Russian-language firmware through Restore mode, which is suitable for advanced users, as it requires working with the console.
The list of verified firmware for Mijia 2C:
| Firmware version | Support for Russian | Download link | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3.5.9_0040 | Yes (partially) | Download | Official, but there may be translation errors |
| 4.6.1_2136 | Yes (full) | Download | Unofficial port, requires Valetudo |
| 3.3.9_1850 | No. | β | Old version, not recommended |
How to stitch:
- Download the firmware and unpack the archive into a folder.
- Connect the vacuum cleaner to your computer and start the command: adb sideload update.zip (if adb is not installed, download Platform Tools from Google).
- Wait until the end (the vacuum cleaner will restart automatically).
What do you do if the firmware is "hung"?
4. Solving Problems After Russification
Even after a successful language change, mistakes can occur, and here are the most common ways to correct them:
- π£οΈ Voice commands do not work in Russian: Check in Settings β Voice assistant, which language is Russian (Russia). If you do not have an option, update your firmware to version 4.6.1+.
- π± Mi Home app doesnβt see vacuum cleaner: Remove device from account, dump vacuum cleaner (Reset button for 10 seconds) and add again by selecting Singapore region.
- βοΈ Resets after update: Turn off automatic update in Settings β System system β Update: Use only manual firmware.
β οΈ Warning: If after Russification the vacuum cleaner starts to "stutter" or misunderstand commands, check the font encoding. UTF-8, and β CP1251. This can only be corrected by re-flashing.
5. Alternative ways of management without Russian language
If the vacuum cleaner is not Russified, you can use workaround solutions:
- π€ Voice Assistant Alice or Google Assistant: Set up integration via Yandex Smart Home or Google Home. Teams will be in Russian, even if the vacuum cleaner interface is in English.
- π± Third-party apps: Apps like Robot Vacuum Controller (Android) or Home Assistant allow you to control the vacuum cleaner without being tied to the Mi Home.
- π Web interface Valetudo: If you have stitched alternative software, a full-fledged Russian-language interface is available at the address http://[IP_vacuumer].
Example of settings through Alice:
- Open the Yandex application with a tied account.
- Go to the Devices. β Add β Xiaomi.
- Enter the username/password from Mi Home (region must be Singapore).
- After synchronization, say, "Alice, turn on the vacuum cleaner" or "Alice, start cleaning the living room."
6. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
Mistakes in the russification of Xiaomi Mijia 2C are usually associated with firmware incompatibility or incorrect settings of the region.
- π« Valetudoβs βUnsupported deviceβ error: So your vacuum cleaner model is not supported by the current version of the software. Check compatibility on Valetudoβs website.
- π Cyclical reboot after firmware: Most likely, the firmware file is corrupted. Download it again and repeat the process.
- π΅ Vacuum does not connect to Wi-Fi: Make sure the network is running at 2.4GHz (vacuum does not support 5GHz.
β οΈ Note: If after a failed firmware vacuum cleaner stopped turning on (only the red indicator burns), do not try to disassemble it yourself. Contact the service center with the problem "bricked after firmware update" - this will help specialists to restore the device faster.

Before any firmware, back up your current settings through Mi Home (Settings β Backup) and this will save room maps and cleaning schedules.
