Modern appliances require a careful approach to the first launch, and Xiaomi robotic systems are no exception. Proper assembly of a device with a wet cleaning function is not just a mechanical connection of parts, but an important step on which the durability of electronics and the efficiency of cleaning floors depends. Many users make mistakes at the start, ignoring the nuances of installing a water tank or calibrating sensors, which subsequently leads to incorrect operation of the gadget.
In this article, we will take a closer look at the process of unpacking, installing consumables, and initially configuring the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum with a wet wipe module. You will learn how to avoid common errors that can break the pump or clog filters. A competent approach to primary assembly ensures that your smart assistant will last for years without the need for expensive repairs.
Before you start the action, you need to prepare the workspace, make sure that the surface on which you will be assembled is dry, clean and stable. This is especially important for models that combine dry and wet cleaning, as dust entering the wet compartments during the installation phase is unacceptable.
Unpacking and checking of equipment
Unpacking is often underrated, but it is at this stage that you can detect transport defects. Carefully remove the main body of the robot vacuum cleaner from the box, taking it by special handles or side faces. Do not lift the device by the top cover or sensors, as this can damage the internal mounts or knock down the calibration of the lidar.
Special attention should be paid to checking accessories. In the box with models that support wet cleaning, there must be a special combined container or a separate module for water. Check the integrity of the rubber seals on the tank - they prevent water from leaking to the electronic components of the device. Also included are side brushes, the main turbobrush, spare HEPA filters and a charging station.
Be sure to check for protective films on charging contacts and sensors. Often, manufacturers will glue sensors and contact areas with bright stickers labeled "Remove" that must be removed before first switching on. If you skip this point, the robot will not be able to correctly determine its charging status or will mistakenly read the data about the environment, which will lead to constant navigation failures.
Installation of side brushes and main roller
Mounting the side brushes is the first step of mechanical assembly. Turn the robot vacuum cleaner upwards, making sure that the surface you put it on is soft so as not to scratch the topcase. Find the side brush sockets around the perimeter of the bottom. Set the brushes up by combining the sleeves on the bushing with the engine's response protrusions. The characteristic click when pressed signals correct fixation.
Importantly, side brushes are often labeled "L" (left) and "R" (right). While in many Xiaomi models they are interchangeable due to the symmetrical shape of the bristles, in some versions, the angle of inclination of the pile can be optimized for a particular side of the rotation. Installation of a brush with violation of the marking can reduce the efficiency of sweeping debris from corners.
Then we move on to the main roller. Open the center cover of the brush module, remove the transport cap (if any) and install the combined brush. When you build, pay attention to the shape of the gears: they should easily enter the slots of the drive mechanism. After you lay the roller, close the lid until the characteristic snap of the locks. A loosely closed cover can cause the brush sensor to fail, and the robot will give an error.

Installation of a wet cleaning system and a water tank
Installing a wet cleaning system is the most critical step, requiring maximum care. Unlike dry models, a water tank is the key element here. Before installation, be sure to remove all transport films and plugs from the rubber valves. If the model is equipped with an electronic tank, make sure that the contacts on the tank and in the body of the robot are clean and dry.
Fill the tank with water according to the instructions. It is strictly forbidden to use hot water, as it can deform plastic parts and damage the pump. It is also not recommended to pour water from the tap without first filtration or boiling, since the mineral salts quickly form a scale on the pump membrane, which will lead to a decrease in pressure or complete failure of the unit. Use distilled or well filtered water.
Why can't you add detergents?
Once filled, place the tank in the robot body, and in models with a combined dust collector, the tank is inserted into a special compartment, after which a lid with a lid is installed on top of the tank. Charging station setting and base placement
The correct location of the charging station directly affects the success of navigation and return of the robot to base. Set the base on a flat hard floor against the wall. On the sides of the base and in front of it should be free space: at least 0.5 meters on the sides and 1.5 meters in front, this is necessary so that infrared sensors on the base and on the robot can correctly interact when docking.
Do not place the base in niches, under low-hanging objects (for example, under a table with a high countertop), or opposite mirrors and glass surfaces. Mirrors and shiny surfaces can distort sensor signals, creating “phantom” obstacles or, conversely, hiding real boundaries. Also avoid places with direct sunlight falling on the base signal receiver.

Once installed, connect the power supply to the grid. The base indicator should catch fire. If a model with a powerful power supply is used, make sure that the socket is grounded, although most modern Xiaomi units are double insulated and do not require grounding.
First incorporation and pairing with annex
To activate the robot, you need to press and hold the power button. Depending on the model, it can be a separate button or a combination of buttons. Usually you need to hold for 3-5 seconds before the voice message or audible signal appears, at which point the device goes into standby mode.
Download the official Mi Home or Xiaomi Home app from the App Store or Google Play. Sign up for your Mi Account if you don't already have one. When you add a device, the app automatically determines the region. It's critical to choose the right server region, because if you make a mistake (e.g., a server "Russia" and a device from "China" or "Europe"), you may not see your vacuum cleaner on the list or be unable to control it remotely.

If the app doesn’t find a device, try switching the region in the Mi Home profile settings. For devices purchased in the global market, the “Russia” or “Germany” region is often suitable, and for Chinese versions, “China” is often the right one.
Turn on Bluetooth and geolocation on your smartphone. Bring your phone to the robot and follow the instructions on the screen. You will be prompted to select your Wi-Fi network. Note that most Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner models only work in the 2.4 GHz band. If your router broadcasts 2.4 and 5 GHz networks under the same name, there may be connection problems. First start and calibration of sensors
After a successful Wi-Fi connection and software update, it is recommended that you start the first manual cleaning cycle, while you are near the device, so that the robot can calibrate the gyroscope and build a primary map of the room, and let the device drive around the perimeter of the room so that the laser rangefinder (Lidar) or optical sensors can read the geometry of the space.
During the first pass, watch the robot closely, it should not ram furniture with force or get stuck on the doorsteps. If you notice that the robot is too aggressive in contact with obstacles, check if any item of the package (for example, a piece of foam) is stuck in the wheels or under the bumper. Also make sure that the protective film from the bumper sensors is completely removed.

The first run is best done in the afternoon in good lighting, as optical flow sensors (Odometer) require enough light to correctly track movements.
If you have a map-building feature in your model, wait until the full cycle is complete, and then you'll see a map that you can edit: divide into rooms, name them, install virtual walls. For wet-cleaning models, you can set areas on the map where you want to wash the floors more intensively, or you can forbid entry to carpet areas.
