Introduction: why you need to tie the remote to a smart chandelier
Xiaomi Smart Chandeliers (Yeelight, Mi series) LED Aqara, or Aqara, offers easy control over a smartphone, but a physical remote is still essential in everyday life, and it's needed to quickly turn on the lights when the phone is discharged, lying in another room, or simply not wanting to open the application. However, after buying or resetting the remote requires re-binding β without this, it will not respond to commands.
The synchronization process seems simple, but in practice, users face typical problems: the remote is not detected, the chandelier flashes with an error, or the binding is reset after updating the firmware. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods of binding (through the Mi Home app, manually and alternative methods), and also consider the unique codes of remote control models and chandeliers, which are rarely mentioned in official instructions. If your chandelier does not respond to the remote after all the manipulations, there is a section on the diagnostics of malfunctions at the end of this article.
What remotes are compatible with Xiaomi chandeliers
Not all remotes are suitable for Xiaomi smart chandeliers, and the company uses its own communication protocols, so universal remotes (such as those from TVs or air conditioners) will not work.
- πΉ Yeelight Remote (models) YL-RC01, YL-RC02) β for Yeelight series chandeliers (e.g. Yeelight) YLXD01YL).
- πΉ Mi Remote remote (models) MJ-RC01, MJ-RC02) β chandelier LED Ceiling Light (for example, MJDY02YL).
- πΉ Aqara Wireless Switch (models) WXKG01LM, WXKG03LM) β Compatible with Aqara chandeliers and some Yeelight models via Aqara Gateway hub.
- πΉ Chandelier remote (included) - usually has a marking that coincides with the model of the chandelier (for example, YLXD01YL-RC).
Important: remotes from Yeelight and Mi LED They're not interchangeable, even if they look the same. If you lose the original remote, buy the same model, universal analogs (e.g. BroadLink). RM4) You will need to be configured through third-party applications like Home Assistant.
Method 1: Linking the remote via the Mi Home app
The most reliable method is synchronization through the official Mi Home app (or Aqara Home for Aqara chandeliers), which works for most models, including the Yeelight. YLXD01YL, Mi LED MJDY02YL Aqara ZNLDP12LM. Instructions are relevant for app version 6.5.0+ (2026).
Algorithm of action:
- Open the Mi Home app and go to the section with your chandelier (it should already be added to the system).
- Click on the gear icon (βοΈ) top-right corner of the device screen.
- Select the Remote Settings or Tied Remote (the name may vary depending on the model).
- Click the Add remote button and follow the prompts on the screen.
- When the application asks, press and hold the switch on the remote for 5-10 seconds until the chandelier blinks 3 times.
- Wait for a successful link (usually 10β30 seconds).
If the remote settings item is missing:
- π Update the chandelier firmware through Settings β Update of the PO.
- π± Reinstall the Mi Home app (sometimes cache resetting helps).
- π Check the region in the app profile β some features are only available for the China region (Mainland China).
βοΈ Preparation for remote tethering
β οΈ Note: If the chandelier flashes red after trying to tie it, it means that the remote is already tied to another device, in which case you need to reset its settings first (see section "Reset remote controlΒ»).
Method 2: Manual binding without application
If the Mi Home app doesn't see the remote or the chandelier isn't connected to Wi-Fi, you can do the binding manually. LED, It requires strict adherence to timing (time intervals).
Instructions:
- Turn the chandelier on the network (it should burn in normal mode).
- Bring the remote to a distance of 10β50 cm from the chandelier.
- Press and hold the button. ON/OFF remotely 8β10 seconds until the chandelier starts to blink quickly (usually) 2 momentarily).
- Release the button - the chandelier should blink 3 times in a row (the signal of successful binding).
- Check the remote by pressing any button (e.g. Brightness) +).
If the chandelier doesn't flash:
- π Check the battery in the remote (should be) CR2032 3V).
- π Reboot the chandelier by turning off/on the power for 10 seconds.
- π‘ Make sure there are no interference sources nearby (Wi-Fi routers, microwaves).
| Model chandelier | Model remote control | Retention time of the button | Signal of success |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yeelight YLXD01YL | YL-RC01 | 8-10 sec. | 3 flashings |
| Mi LED MJDY02YL | MJ-RC01 | 5-7 seconds | 2 flashings + sound-sign |
| Aqara ZNLDP12LM | WXKG03LM | 10s (via hub) | Blinking green. |
| Yeelight YLXD02YL | YL-RC02 | 12 seconds | 4 flashings |
β οΈ Note: For Aqara chandeliers, manually tethering the remote is only possible with an Aqara Gateway hub connected. Without it, the remote will only work through the application.
π‘
If the chandelier flashes red when manually tied, it means that it is already tied to another remote, in which case, first perform a reset (see the next section).
Resetting the remote and chandelier before a new binding
If the remote has previously been tied to another chandelier or there has been a synchronization error, it needs to be reset. The same goes for the chandelier - sometimes it "forgets" all the tethered remotes after a failure. The reset procedure is different for different models.
Reset remote:
- Remove the battery from the remote for 30 seconds.
- Put the battery back in.
- Press and hold the buttons at the same time. ON and OFF within 15 seconds until the indicator (if any) flashes 2 times.
Chandelier discharge:
- π For Yeelight: turn off/on the power 5 times in a row at intervals of 2 seconds. The chandelier will blink 3 times.
- π For Mi. LED: Hold the button on the chandelier body (if any) for 10 seconds.
- π± For Aqara: Reset only through the Aqara Home app (Device section) β Settings β Reset).
Once reset, the chandelier will return to factory settings, and it will have to be added to the Mi Home again. If the reset does not help, check whether the remote signal is blocked by a metal lampshade or wall (especially for remotes at 433 MHz).
What to do if the reset does not work?
Solving common problems
Even after successful binding, the remote may not work properly, and here are the typical symptoms and their causes:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The remote works only from close range. | Weak battery signal or interference | Replace the battery with a new one (CR2032). Remove sources of interference (Wi-Fi routers, radio phones). |
| Chandelier blinks but doesn't respond to commands | Conflict with another remote | Reset the chandelier and re-attach the remote. |
| The remote controls brightness, but not color | Incompatibility of the remote model | Use the original remote for RGB-chandelier (e.g, YL-RC02 for Yeelight Color). |
| Resetting Resets After Updating | Firmware bug | Reverse to the previous version of the software or wait for a patch from Xiaomi. |
If the remote stopped working after updating the chandelier firmware:
- Check the version of the software in Mi Home β Settings of the device β Update.
- If the version is newer than 1.6.0 (for Yeelight) or 2.1.0 (for Mi) LED), Try to revert to the old firmware through Mi Home Developer Mode.
- Write in support of Xiaomi with the chandelier model and software version β sometimes they send out patches for specific devices.
π‘
If the chandelier stopped responding to the remote after the update, try to re-attach it through the app first, and 80% of the time this solves the problem without rolling back the firmware.
Alternative ways to manage the chandelier
If the binding of the remote is not possible or it is broken, you can control the chandelier in other ways:
- π± Voice commands: via Alice (Yandex), Google Assistant or Siri (you need to connect the chandelier to the corresponding service in Mi HomeΒ».
- π₯οΈ Smart Scenarios: You can create automation by time, geolocation, or other triggers in Mi Home (e.g., βSwitch on the lights when I get homeΒ»).
- π Switch on the wall: some Xiaomi chandeliers (e.g. Mi) LED MJDY04YL) Supports physical switch connection via Xiaomi Mi Smart Wall Switch.
- π€ Third-party hubs: If you have a Home Assistant or OpenHAB, the chandelier can be integrated there and controlled via any compatible remote (e.g. BroadLink) RM4 Pro).
For voice control:
- Open Mi Home and go to Profile β Settings β Voice assistants.
- Select the service (Yandex, Google or Apple HomeKit) and log in.
- Assign a name to the chandelier (such as βBedroomβ) and save the settings.
- Now you can give commands through a column or smartphone.
If you use Home Assistant, add a chandelier through Xiaomi Miio integration:
Configuration for Home Assistant (configuration.yaml file)
