Voice control of Xiaomi’s robot vacuum cleaner via Yandex’s Alice makes cleaning a convenient and technological process. However, many users face difficulties in integrating the two ecosystems. Unlike native support for Google Assistant or Siri, the Xiaomi + Alice bundle requires additional customization through intermediary services.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways of connecting (including the official one through Yandex Smart Home and the alternative one through Mi Home Automation), consider the hidden limitations of Xiaomi models from 2023-2026, and also give solutions for typical errors like “Device not found” or “No access rights”. If your vacuum cleaner does not support direct integration, there is a workaround.
1.What Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner models are compatible with Alice?
Not all Xiaomi devices can work directly with Alice. Official support through Yandex Smart Home is available only models with Mi Home protocol (not MiOT!) and up-to-date firmware.
- 🔹 Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite (2022–2026)
- 🔹 Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro (with laser rangefinder)
- 🔹 Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop P10 (Support from firmware 3.5.9+)
- 🔹 Xiaomi DreameBot D9/D10 (requires manual binding)
Models older than 2021 (Xiaomi Mi Robot 1S, Mi Robot Vacuum 1C) are not officially supported, but there are workarounds for them via Home Assistant or IFTTT (discussed below).
Before setting up, check the vacuum cleaner firmware version in the Mi Home app (Settings → About Device section). If the version is below 3.3.0, update it through the official software, otherwise Alice will not see the device.
⚠️ Attention: Xiaomi vacuum cleaners with Chinese firmware (CN In the model number) are not compatible with Yandex Smart Home. They require flashing to the global version (EU or RU).
2.Official method: connection via Yandex Smart Home
This is the most reliable method, but it only works for certified models, and the instructions are relevant for Yandex 23.12+ and Mi Home 6.5+.
- Sign in to Mi Home and Yandex under the same phone number (required!). If the accounts are different, link them through Settings → Accounts → Add an account.
- In Mi Home, add the vacuum cleaner to Smart Home → Devices and wait for the synchronization (can take up to 5 minutes).
- Open the Yandex app, go to the Smart Home → Add the device → Xiaomi.
- Select your vacuum cleaner model from the list and confirm access to your Mi Account.
If the vacuum cleaner is not displayed in the list of Yandex devices, try:
- 🔄 Reboot the router (sometimes reset helps) DHCP).
- 📱 Remove and re-introduce the vacuum cleaner in Mi Home.
- 🔧 Manually specify the region of Russia in the settings Mi Home (Profile) → Region).
The device is on and connected to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi |
Mi and Yandex accounts are tied to the same number |
Version of the vacuum cleaner firmware not lower than 3.3.0|
The router does not block ports 80 and 443 (check in the firewall settings)-->
3. Alternative method: Connecting via Home Assistant
If your Xiaomi model isn’t officially supported, use the Home Assistant intermediate server, which is more complicated but works for 90% of devices, including older models.
You'll need:
- 🖥️ Computer or Raspberry Pi to install Home Assistant.
- 🔌 Connecting the vacuum cleaner to Mi Home with an access token (instruction below).
- 🔑 Yandex Developer Account to Create Skills.
Step 1: Getting the Mi Home token
Download the Mi Home Token Extractor utility (for Android) or use a Python script for iOS. After logging in to Mi Home, copy the device token (did and token).
Step 2: Set up Home Assistant
Add the following code to the configuration.yaml file (replace) YOUR_TOKEN and YOUR_DID data):
vacuum:
- platform: xiaomi_miio
host: [IP_ address vacuum cleaner
token: YOUR_TOKEN
name:"Xiaomi Vacuum"Step 3: Integration with Alice
In Home Assistant, go to Settings → Voice Assistants → Yandex Alice and follow the instructions for creating a skill. After synchronization, the vacuum cleaner will appear in the list of Yandex devices.
⚠️ Note: When using Home Assistant, the vacuum cleaner will only be available when the server is running. For round-the-clock access, set up Home Assistant autorun on Raspberry Pi or cloud-based VPS.
4. Connection via IFTTT (for older models)
IFTTT (If This Then That) is an automation service that can link Mi Home and Alice via webhooks, a technique that is suitable for models without official support, but requires API skills.
Algorithm of action:
- Create an account on IFTTT and connect the Webhooks service.
- In Mi Home, you will get a device token (as in the Home Assistant method).
- Create an Applet with a Webhook Trigger → Receive a web request (specify an event, for example) vacuum_start).
- As an action, select Mi Home and the vacuum cleaner command (e.g. start cleaning).
- In Yandex Smart Home, create a script with a webhook to the address https://maker.ifttt.com/trigger/vacuum_start/with/key/YOUR_KEY.
Now, with the voice command "Alice, start cleaning," IFTTT will send a signal to Mi Home, and the vacuum cleaner will start working.
| Connection method | Difficulty | Supported models | Required SOFTWARE |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official (Yandex Smart Home) | ⭐ | Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite/Pro, P10 | Mi Home, Yandex |
| Home Assistant | ⭐⭐⭐ | All models with Mi Home token | Home Assistant, Python |
| IFTTT | ⭐⭐ | Anything but Chinese firmware | IFTTT, Mi Home |
| Cloud Bridge (Alice2Mi) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | All models. | Docker, Node.js |
5. Solving typical connection errors
Even with the right setup, users face problems, and here are the most common ways to fix them:
- 🚫 Error: "Device not found" Reason: Vacuum cleaner connected to a different Wi-Fi network than phone Solution: Reconnect both devices to the same 2.4 GHz network (5 GHz not supported!).
- 🔒 Error: "No access rights" Reason: Mi and Yandex accounts are not synchronized. Solution: Remove the vacuum cleaner from Mi Home, then add again and repeat the binding to Yandex Smart Home.
- 🔄 Error: "Device offline" Reason: Xiaomi servers are blocked by provider.Solution: Change DNS at 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1 in the router settings.
What if the vacuum cleaner does not respond to Alice's commands?
If after all the manipulations the vacuum cleaner has not appeared in Yandex Smart Home, check whether the antivirus (for example, Kaspersky or Avast) blocks access to Xiaomi servers.
6.Voice commands for vacuum control
After a successful connection, Alice recognizes the following commands (the full list depends on the model):
- 🎤 «Alice, turn on the vacuum cleaner – the beginning of cleaning.
- 🎤 «Alice, bring the vacuum cleaner back to base – return to the dock.
- 🎤 «Alice, pause the vacuum cleaner – suspend cleaning.
- 🎤 «Alice, how much charge the vacuum cleaner has – checking the battery level.
- 🎤 «Alice, find a vacuum cleaner" - activation of the beep (if supported).
For models with the function of floor washing (Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro) additional commands are available:
- 💧 «Alice, wash the kitchen floor" (requires pre-setting areas in Mi Home).
- 🔄 «Alice, set the average suction power».
💡
Create a time-triggered “Schedule Cleaning” scenario in Yandex Smart Home, such as “Every day at 10:00, if no one is home, run a vacuum cleaner.” Use geofences or presence sensors to do this.
If Alice doesn't recognize the command, try paraphrasing it. For example, instead of "start cleaning," say "run the vacuum cleaner." Also make sure that the device settings in Yandex Smart Home have voice recognition enabled.
7. Security and confidentiality
When you integrate Xiaomi and Yandex, your data passes through the servers of both companies.
- 🔐 Mi Home access tokens give you complete control over your device, and don't share them or store them in open repositories (e.g. GitHub).
- 🌍 Geolocation: When using a Home Assistant or IFTTT yours IP-The address may be fixed by third-party servers, for anonymity, configure a proxy or VPN.
- 📡 Local commands: If the vacuum cleaner supports MiOT, commands can be sent directly over the local network (without the cloud.
To minimize the risks:
- Use two-factor authentication in Mi and Yandex accounts.
- Regularly update the vacuum cleaner firmware (in Mi Home enable auto-updates).
- For Home Assistant, set up HTTPS and a password for the web interface.
💡
Never use Mi Home tokens in public scenarios (such as open GitHub repositories or forums).Attackers can access your vacuum cleaner and other Xiaomi devices.
