Introduction: Why connect a robot vacuum cleaner to a smartphone?
Xiaomiβs modern robot vacuum cleaners are not just cleaning devices, but full-fledged smart home components. Connecting Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop Pro to your phone gives you access to remote control, scheduling, mode choices, and even integration with voice assistants. Without synchronization with your smartphone, you lose half of the functionality of the device.
In this article, we will discuss all the stages of connection, from preparing a robot and a phone to solving typical errors. The instructions are relevant for Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop Pro models (including versions of the S7 Pro, S7 MaxV and similar), as well as for the Mi Home and Mi Home Lite applications. If you have just unpacked the device or encountered problems after resetting, here you will find the answers.
We will focus on setting up Wi-Fi, because this is where users are most likely to encounter difficulties, and consider alternative ways to connect if the standard method did not work.
Preparing a robot vacuum cleaner and phone for connection
Before you start synchronizing, make sure both devices are ready for the procedure, and skipping this step often results in an application malfunctioning or the robot being unable to detect.
For Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop Pro, do the following:
- π Charge the robot to a minimum of 20% (optimally 50% or higher). Low charge can interrupt the connection process.
- πΆ Make sure the robot is in standby mode (not in the cleaning process).Push and hold the power button. 2-3 seconds until you hear the beep.
- π± Check that the body of the robot does not have a protective film on the IR sensors or buttons β it can block signals.
For the phone:
- π± Install the latest version of the Mi Home app (or Mi Home Lite for restricted regions: π€ Google Play π App Store
- π Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your phone. The robot first connects over Bluetooth and then switches to Wi-Fi.
- π Connect the phone to the same 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network that you'll be connecting the robot to. Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop Pro doesn't support 5GHz networks!
If your router is only running in the 5GHz band, you'll have to temporarily switch to 2.4GHz or use a guest network. How to do that, see the next section.
Setting up Wi-Fi to connect a robot vacuum cleaner
The most common mistake when connecting Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop Pro is trying to sync with a 5 GHz network. The robot only supports 2.4 GHz networks with WPA2-PSK encryption (AES). If your router is running in-band mode (at the same time 2.4 and 5 GHz), try the following solutions:
Methods of network preparation:
- π Separate networks in router settings: Create two separate networks with different names (e.g, MyWiFi_2G and MyWiFi_5G). Connect the phone and robot to 2G-variant.
- π‘ Enable Compatibility Mode: In the router control panel, find the Wireless Mode option and select 802.11 b/g/n (without ac/ax).
- π Check the type of encryption: the robot does not support WPA3 or WEP. In the router settings, select WPA2-PSK (AES).
| The Wi-Fi problem | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Robot can't find the net | Network hidden (SSID is not broadcast) | Enable network visibility in router settings or manually enter SSID in Mi Home |
| The "wrong password" error | Special characters in the password (Cyrillic, spaces,!@#$) | Use a password of Latin letters and numbers (e.g. Xiaomi123) |
| Connection is interrupted by 99% | Router blocks new device (MAC-filtering) | Turn it off. MAC-filtering or adding MAC-whitelisted address |
| The robot is connected but loses communication. | Weak Wi-Fi signal or network congestion | Move the router closer to the robot or reduce the number of connected devices |
π‘
If your router does not support network splitting, try temporarily disabling the 5GHz band in the settings, and once you connect the robot, you can return the previous settings.
If you use public Wi-Fi (such as in a hotel or office), the connection may not work due to portal authentication, and in such cases you will have to configure the hotspot on the phone and connect the robot to it.
Step-by-step: Connection via Mi Home
Now, to the synchronization process itself, follow the instructions strictly by step, and even one point can fail.
Connection algorithm:
- Launch Mi Home and log in (or sign up if you donβt have an account) and make sure the region on your profile matches your country (e.g. Russia or China for Xiaomi servers).
- Press"+" β"Add the device" in the top right corner. In the search bar, type in Robot Vacuum or scan. QR-robot-code.
- Select a model from the list (e.g. Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop Pro or Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro).
- Follow the clues: π The robot will emit an audible signal and flash the indicator. π± The phone will be asked to connect via Bluetooth β confirm it. π Select your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and enter your password.
Wait for completion
2-3 minutes
βοΈ Checklist before connection
If the app doesnβt find your Wi-Fi at the network selection stage, try:
- π Reboot the router and robot.
- π± Enter the name of the network (SSID) and the password manually in Mi Home.
- π‘ Check if the phone is running traffic savings or VPN β They can block the connection.

Alternative ways of connecting
If the standard Mi Home method didn't work, try one of the alternatives. They can help in cases where:
- π΅ The robot is not detected by Bluetooth.
- π Wi-Fi network is not available or is unstable.
- π± The Mi Home app doesnβt work properly.
Method 1: Connect via the phone access point
If home Wi-Fi is not suitable (for example, only 5 GHz), you can temporarily use the phone as a router:
- On the phone, turn on modem modem (Settings β Access Point and modem).
- Create an access point with a name Xiaomi_Robot password 12345678 (spaceless).
- In Mi Home, select this network when connecting the robot.
- After successful synchronization, connect the robot to your home Wi-Fi via the settings in the app.
Method 2: Connecting with Mi Home Lite
In some regions (e.g. Europe), the standard Mi Home app may block the addition of devices.
- Remove Mi Home and install Mi Home Lite (available in APKPure).
- Sign up with the same Xiaomi account.
- Repeat the process of adding the device.
Method 3: Manual Wi-Fi data entry
If the robot does not see the network automatically:
- In Mi Home, at the Wi-Fi selection stage, click Enter manually.
- Enter the SSID (network name) and password without errors.
- If the network name contains spaces or Cyrillic, replace them with the Latin alphabet (for example, MyWiFi instead of MyWiFi).
π‘
If the robot has previously been connected to another Xiaomi account, reset: press and hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds until you hear a double beep.
Setting up the robot after connecting
Once synchronized successfully, the robot will appear on the device list in Mi Home, and now you can start a basic setup that will make cleaning more efficient.
Basic parameters:
- πΊοΈ Map of the room: start the first cleaning in Scan mode, so the robot can create a map, and then you can break it into zones and install virtual walls.
- β° Cleaning schedule: set up automatic starts by day of the week and time, such as cleaning on weekdays at 10:00 when you are not home.
- π§ Washing modes: Choose the intensity of floor washing (weak, medium, strong) depending on the type of coating.
- π Battery settings: Turn on the Return to Base option at low charge so that the robot doesnβt run out of power in the middle of the room.
To access the advanced functions:
- Go to the robot card in Mi Home.
- Press Settings (cog in the upper right corner).
- Select additional settings β Cleaning modes.
- Activate options: π§Ή Cleaning by zone - setting priority areas. π« No-go zones: areas where a robot cannot enter. π Repeated cleaning β passing through one place twice.
π‘
If the robot is not building a map well, make sure there is enough lighting in the room. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop Pro uses a laser rangefinder (LDS) that performs worse in the dark.
For integration with voice assistants (such as Alice or Google Assistant):
- In Mi Home, go to Profile β Settings β Voice control.
- Connect your Xiaomi account to the appropriate assistant.
- Now you can give commands like, "Alice, start the robot vacuum cleaner" or "OK Google, get the robot back on the base."
If none of the methods worked, perform a complete reset of the robot:
- Press and hold the power and home buttons for 10 seconds.
- After restarting, repeat the connection process from scratch.
