Xiaomiโs robot vacuum cleaners have long been an integral part of smart homes, but their first Wi-Fi connection is often a challenge for users. Even experienced Mi Home owners can encounter bugs like โfailed to connect to the networkโ or endless torsional indicator. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways of connecting for models from 2020 to 2026, including the Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, Dreame Bot Z10 Pro and Viomi V3, and explain how to fix typical failures without contacting the service.
Xiaomi vacuum cleaners are a feature of the Mi Home app (or Xiaomi Home for new devices). However, even with official software, users face problems: the router does not support the desired protocol, the smartphone does not see the device. We tested all methods on real devices and collected unique solutions for Russian networks, where Xiaomi servers are often blocked. If your vacuum cleaner refuses to connect, here you will find the answer.
1.Preparation for connection: what to check before starting
Before you start the pairing process, make sure that the basic conditions for a successful connection are met, and neglecting these points is the cause of 70% of the setup errors.
- ๐ถ Router: Must support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi (5GHz is not suitable for most Xiaomi models) except for new flagships like DreameBot X30 Ultra that operates on both frequencies.
- ๐ Type of encryption: only WPA2-PSK (AES). If you WPA3 or mixed mode, switch in router settings.
- ๐ฑ Smartphone: Android version is not lower than 8.0 or iOS 12. On older devices, Mi Home may not correctly determine the location (important for region binding).
- ๐ Region in Mi Home: choose Russia or Mainland China (for some models.
Pay attention to the name of the network (SSID): It should not contain Cyrillic, spaces or special symbols like!, @, #. If your Wi-Fi is called "Apartment Ivana", rename it in Latin (for example, if you have a Wi-Fi name, MyHome_5G โ MyHome_2G). Also, disable the Hidden Network function. SSID) โ Xiaomi vacuum cleaners can not connect to hidden networks.
โ ๏ธ Note: If your router uses 160 MHz channel width in the 2.4 GHz band, reduce it to 20 MHz or 40 MHz. Wide channels can cause conflicts with IoT devices, including vacuum cleaners.
2. Step-by-step instruction: connection via Mi Home
This is the main and recommended way of connecting for all modern models. Follow the instructions strictly by steps - skipping any point can cause a failure.
- Install the Mi Home app: ๐ฑ For Android: Google Play (version no lower than 6.5.0). ๐ For iOS: App Store.
When you first start, select the region of Russia and create a Xiaomi account (or sign in through an existing one).
Add the device to the app
Click + โ Add device โ Household care โ Robot vacuum cleaner. Choose your model from the list. If you don't have one, try the option of "Other Sweeping Robot."
Transfer the vacuum cleaner to pairing mode
Press the Wi-Fi (or Reset) button on the case for 3-5 seconds until you hear a voice message โConnect to Wi-Fiโ or flash the indicator.
Connect your smartphone to the temporary vacuum cleaner network
In the list of Wi-Fi on the phone will appear network type mirobot-XXXX or rockrobo-XXXX. Connect to it (password is not required).
Choose a home network
Return to Mi Home โ the app will automatically prompt you to select your primary Wi-Fi. Enter your password and wait until the process is completed (up to 2 minutes).
If you have an Unable to connect to the network error at the connection stage, check:
- ๐ Restart the router (turn off for 30 seconds).
- ๐ต Turn it off. VPN Proxies on your smartphone โ they can block access to Xiaomi servers.
- ๐ Make sure the vacuum cleaner is at least 20% charged (at low charge, some models refuse to connect).

3. Alternative ways of connecting
If the standard method didnโt work, try one of the backup options that are relevant for older models (like Mi Robot 1) or when locking Xiaomi servers.
Method 1: Through the Dreame app (for Dreame vacuum cleaners)
Vacuum cleaners of the Dreame brand (part of the Xiaomi ecosystem) are connected through a separate application:
- Download Dreamehome (Android/IOS)
- Register (you can use your Xiaomi account).
- Click + โ Add the device and select the model.
- Follow the standard procedure (pairing mode + connection to the temporary network).
Method 2: Manual IP indication (for power users)
If the vacuum cleaner โhangsโ at the stage of connecting to Wi-Fi, try manually prescribe a static IP in the router settings:
- Find out. MAC-vacuum cleaner address (usually indicated on a sticker under the cover).
- In the router administrator panel (192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1), find the DHCP โ IP reservations section.
- Tie it up. MAC-vacuum-dress IP (for example 192.168.0.100).
- Restart the vacuum cleaner and reconnect.
โ ๏ธ Note: Not all routers support reservations IP For IoT devices, if your model doesnโt have this feature, try turning it off. AP Isolation โ it can block communication between the vacuum cleaner and Xiaomi servers.
Why is the vacuum cleaner not connected to 5GHz Wi-Fi?
4. Solving common mistakes
Even with the right setup, users experience typical crashes, and weโve compiled accurate solutions for each bug based on an analysis of forums and support for Xiaomi.
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Unable to connect to the network | The router locks the device or the wrong region in the Mi Home | Change the region in Mi Home to Mainland China. Turn off Firewall or Parental Control in your router. Reboot the vacuum cleaner (press the power button for 10 seconds). |
| Device offline after connecting | Vacuum cleaner can not communicate with Xiaomi servers | Check if the antivirus (e.g. Kaspersky) blocks access to api.io.mi.com. Install Singapore or Hong Kong in Mi Home. Update the vacuum cleaner firmware via USB (instruction in Section 6). |
| The vacuum cleaner is constantly reconnected to Wi-Fi | Weak signal or conflict IP-address | Move the router closer to the vacuum cleaner (or use a repeater). In the router settings, reduce the DTIM Interval to 1โ2. Assign a static IP to the vacuum cleaner (see Section 3). |
| Incorrect password (incorrect password) | Password contains inadmissible symbols | Make sure the password contains only Latin letters and numbers. If the password is longer than 32 characters, shorten it. Reconnect to the vacuum cleaner's time network and re-enter. |
If none of the solutions worked, try resetting the vacuum cleaner settings to factory:
- Turn off the vacuum cleaner.
- Press the Wi-Fi and Spot Cleaning buttons for 10 seconds at the same time.
- Wait for the beep and voice message "Reset successful".
- Repeat the connection procedure from scratch.
๐ก
If the vacuum cleaner connects to Wi-Fi, but in Mi Home it is displayed as offline, try manually synchronizing the time on the router with NTP servers. To do this, in the router settings, find the System Tools โ Time section and select the pool.ntp.org server.
5.Configure after connecting: what to do next
Successful Wi-Fi connection is just the first step, and to make the vacuum cleaner work efficiently, you need to:
- ๐บ๏ธ Create a map of the room: Start the first cleaning in Full Cleaning mode. The vacuum cleaner will create a map that can then be edited in Mi Home: add zones, virtual walls, forbidden areas.
- โฐ Set up a schedule: Go to Cleaning on schedule and select days/times. To save battery power, we recommend that you install cleaning for a time when you are not at home.
- ๐ง Update the firmware: In the Device Settings section โ Update software, check firmware relevance. New versions fix connection errors and add features (e.g. carpet recognition).
- ๐ Set up notifications: Enable the Push Notification option to receive messages about cleaning completion, errors, or low charge.
For models with moping (wet cleaning) function, set up:
- Water supply level (Low/Medium/High โ choose Low for laminate).
- Type of flooring in each room (in the map editor).
- Automatic lifting of the moping on carpets (if supported).
โ ๏ธ Note: If you use a vacuum cleaner in a multi-level apartment (such as a two-storey house), create separate maps for each floor. To do this, transfer the vacuum cleaner to another level and start cleaning - the device will save the new card automatically.
๐ก
After the first connection, be sure to check the settings of the Voice Assistant in Mi Home. If you use Alice, Google Assistant or Siri, allow access to the vacuum cleaner - this will allow you to control it with your voice (for example, "Alice, start cleaning in the living room").
6. Update firmware via USB (if Wi-Fi is not working)
If the vacuum cleaner refuses to connect to the network because of outdated firmware, you can manually update it through a flash drive, which works for most models, including the Mi Robot 1S, Viomi V2 and Dreame Bot D9.
You'll need:
- FAT32 flash drive (up to 32 GB).
- Firmware file for your model (you can download it on the MIUI or 4PDA forum).
Instructions:
- Download the firmware archive and unpack it. The firmware file must have the.pkg extension.
- Rename the file to miio_robot_vacuum.pkg (for Mi Robot) or dreame.vacuum.pkg (for Dreame).
- Copy the file to a flash drive (to the root directory, no folders!).
- Turn off the vacuum cleaner, insert the flash drive into USB-port (usually located under the cover).
- Press the Reset button and hold it, simultaneously turning on the vacuum cleaner.
- Wait for the beep (3-5 minutes) and the vacuum cleaner will automatically refresh and restart.
After the update:
- Remove the flash drive.
- Reset the vacuum cleaner settings (see Section 4).
- Reconnect to the Wi-Fi.
Important: Not all models support USB updates. For example, Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro requires an Internet connection for updates. Check compatibility on forums before you do the procedure.
