Xiaomi smart lamps are convenient until you need to reconfigure the remote or transfer it to another device. Most often, the problem occurs when you sell a lamp, change your smartphone, or when the remote starts to conflict with several light sources at once.
Many users mistakenly think that it is enough to simply remove the lamp from the Mi Home or Yeelight app โ but this only works to reset communication with the smartphone. The remote remains tied to the lamp at the hardware level, and without the right procedure it is impossible to connect to another device. In this article, we will analyze all the current ways of detachment, including hidden commands for models without a reset button and solutions for cases when the lamp does not respond to standard methods.
If you are faced with a situation where the remote controls several lamps at once or, conversely, stopped working after updating the firmware, do not rush to buy a new one. In 90% of cases, the problem can be solved softwarely without disassembling the device. The main thing is to accurately determine the lamp model and the remote version, since the reset algorithms for Xiaomi Mi LED Desk Lamp and Yeelight Bedside Lamp are different.
โโโ
1. How to determine the model of the lamp and remote before resetting
Before you start to unbundle, be sure to specify the model of the lamp and remote control. This is critical, since, for example, the Yeelight series of remotes (white plastic box with 4 buttons) are reset differently from the round remotes from the Mi LED Desk Lamp (touch control).
- ๐ฆ On the device box โ usually the model is indicated on a barcode sticker (for example, YLDP02YL for Yeelight or MJTD01YL table lamp).
- ๐ In the Mi Home app, open the lamp card, tap three dots in the upper right corner, and select Device Informationยป.
Pay special attention to the firmware version โ if it is older than 2022, some methods (for example, reset via ADB) may not work.
If the model is not possible to determine, use the universal method: count the number of buttons on the remote and their location:
โ ๏ธ Note: Xiaomi and Yeelight remotes are not interchangeable, even if they look similar.Attempt to tie the Yeelight remote to the Mi lamp LED This will cause synchronization error.
โโโ
2. Method 1: Standard reset via button on the remote (for most models)
This is the simplest method that works for 80% of Xiaomi and Yeelight remotes. The algorithm is the same for most devices, but there are nuances depending on the number of buttons.
Instructions:
If you have a touch ring on the remote (like the Mi LED Desk Lamp), instead of holding the button, do the following:
โ๏ธ Preparation for remote discharge
If the lamp does not respond to the button holding, try an alternative method:
- ๐ Cyclical pressing: Press the button quickly ON/OFF 5 consecutively 1 The lamp should blink. 3 once.
- ๐ Power Reset: Disconnect the lamp from the socket for 30 seconds, then repeat holding the button.
โ ๏ธ Note: On remotes with infrared control (for example, for Mi). LED Ceiling Light resetting via a button may not work. In this case, use the method via an application (section 3).
โโโ
Method 2: Uncoupling via Mi Home or Yeelight
If the hardware reset didnโt help or the remote doesnโt have a physical reset button, try untieing it software-based.This method is suitable for lamps that are already added to the Xiaomi ecosystem and are displayed in the app.
For the Mi Home app:
For the Yeelight app:
If the settings do not have the option of detachment of the remote, try an alternative path:
- ๐ Reboot: In some firmwares, the detachment option appears only after restarting the lamp (turn it on / off 3 times in a row).
| Annex | The path to settings | Option to detach | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Home | Devices โ lamp โ โฎ โ Settings | โUntie the remoteโ or โReset the accessoriesโ | Works for lamps with firmware 2020+ |
| Yeelight | My Devices โ lamp โ โ๏ธ โ Remote Control | ยซUnpairยป | The latest version of the application is required |
| Aqara Home | Devices โ lamp โ Settings โ Accessories | ยซRemove Remoteยป | Only for Aqara lamps compatible with Xiaomi |
๐ก
If after detachment the remote does not want to connect to the new lamp, try to reset it yourself: remove the battery for 1 minute, then insert back and repeat the binding.
โโโ
Method 3: Reset via a sequence of commands (for lamps without a button)
Some lamp models (e.g. Xiaomi Mi LED Smart Bulb or Yeelight E27) do not have a physical reset button on the remote, and the application does not have an elbow option, in which case you can use a hidden command combination that resets communication at the firmware level.
Instructions for Yeelight lamps:
Instructions for lamps Mi LED Desk Lamp (with touchscreen):
If the combination doesnโt work, try an alternative for color-lit bulbs:
- ๐จ Color reset: Turn on the lamp, then switch colors quickly (red) โ green โ blue-colored โ 0.5 seconds apart, and after the 5th switch, the lamp will flash yellow.
- ๐ Brightness cycle: Set brightness to maximum, then minimum, repeat 3 times. The lamp should go out and turn on again.
What if the lamp does not respond to commands?

5. Method 4: Hardware lamp reset (extreme case)
If all previous methods fail, you can completely reset the lamp to the factory settings, which will remove all the attached remotes, reset the brightness and color settings, and untie the lamp from your Xiaomi account. Use this method only as a last resort!
For reset button lamps (e.g. Yeelight E27):
For lamps without a button (for example, Mi LED Desk Lamp):
โ ๏ธ Warning: After the hardware reset, the lamp will have to be re-introduced to the Mi Home app and adjusted to all the parameters (brightness, color temperature, schedules) if the lamp was part of the smart home scenarios, they will also need to be restored.
If the lamp doesn't drop even after holding the button, the firmware may be damaged, and only flashing through the ADB or contacting the service center will help.
๐ก
Hardware resets are the last chance to bring the lamp back to life, but they erase all settings. Use them only if other methods have not worked.
โโโ
Method 5: Uncoupling through ADB (for advanced users)
This method is suitable for lamps that do not respond to standard reset methods, but are connected to the Xiaomi network and displayed in the application.
Step-by-step:
- Connect your smartphone to your computer and open the command line (cmd).
- Enter the command to check the connection: adb devices (should display the serial number of your device).
- Launch the Mi Home app and find your lamp ID: adb shell dumpsys activity top | find "com.xiaomi.smarthome"
- Reset the remote tether with the command (replace) DEVICE_ID real ID lamps): adb shell am broadcast -a miui.intent.action.UNPAIR_REMOTE --es device_id DEVICE_ID
- Reset the lamp (turn off/turn on the power).
If the command didnโt work, try an alternative for Yeelight lamps:
adb shell am start -n com.yeelight.yeelink/.device.DeviceResetActivity --es did DEVICE_IDImportant: This method only works for lamps that are tied to a Xiaomi account via the same smartphone that executes commands from. If the lamp is tied to another account, add it to your Mi Home app first.
๐ก
If you donโt have experience with ADB, use the Mi Home ADB Tool (available on GitHub) to automate the process and reduce the risk of errors.

7. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
Even following the instructions, users often encounter problems when untiing the remote, and here are the most common errors and their solutions:
- ๐ด Lamp doesn't blink after holding the button: Check that the remote is in range (maximum 10cm). Replace the battery in the remote - even if the indicator is on, the voltage may not be enough. Try to reset the lamp through the application (method 3).
- ๐ Remote untied but not connected to new lamp: Reset remote: remove battery for 1 minute. Make sure new lamp is compatible with your remote (see section 1). Update the lamp firmware via app.
- โ ๏ธ The lamp has dropped, but the remote controls it anyway: This means that the reset was incomplete. Repeat the hardware reset (mode 5.
Another common problem is firmware conflict, where if the lamp and the remote have different versions of the software, they may not sync correctly.
- Update the lamp firmware through Mi Home.
- Reset the remote (remove the battery for 10 minutes).
- Repeat the binding.
If none of these methods work, you may have damaged the Bluetooth module in the lamp or remote control, and you just have to go to the service center or replace the device.
