How to set up Marusya on Xiaomi speakers: from the basic installation to hidden functions

Why Marusya is needed on Xiaomi-column and what she can do

Voice assistant Marusya from Mail.ru Group is a Russian analogue of Alice or Google Assistant, optimized for working with devices based on Xiaomi. AI Speaker, Marusya supports Russian at the native level, understands local realities (for example, can find the nearest pharmacy or order a taxi in your city) and is integrated with popular Russian services: Yandex.Music, Kinopoisk, Delivery Club and others.

Setup Marousi on Xiaomi speakers (e.g. models) LX06, Mi Smart Speaker or Redmi Speaker Play offers access to advanced features: managing a smart home through Mi Home, running custom scripts, listening to podcasts and even playing with children. However, many users face problems with the first connection, from the lack of an option in the menu to synchronization errors. In this article, we will discuss all installation methods (including workarounds for old firmware) and hidden settings that the manufacturer does not advertise.

What Xiaomi speakers support Marusya: a full list of models

Not all Xiaomi smart speakers are compatible with Marusay, and the assistant is officially running on the following devices:

• 🔊 Xiaomi LX06 (and its modifications: LX06A, LX06B)
• 🔊 Redmi Speaker Play (with firmware only) MIUI 12.5+)

Marusia will not be installed on Mi Bluetooth Speaker or Mi Portable Speaker speakers (without XiaoAI support) because these devices do not have a built-in microphone and processor for processing voice commands (CN-ROM), where Russian services are blocked by default, in which case you will need a preliminary switch region (change of the firmware region).

Preparation of the column for the installation of Marousi: mandatory steps

Before setting up the assistant, make sure your column is ready for the procedure. Skipping at least one of these items can cause crashes or no installation option in the menu.

Update the column firmware to the latest version

Connect the column to Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz)

Install the Mi Home app on your smartphone

Register a Xiaomi account (if not done)

The most important step is to update the firmware.

1. Open the Mi Home app on your phone.
2. Select your column in the list of devices.
3. Go to Settings. → Update of the PO.
4. If a new version is available, download it and install it. Don't turn off the column during the process (this can lead to a "brick").

If the update is not available, check the region of your account in Mi Home:

• Open the profile in the app (the icon of the person in the upper right corner).
• Click on the line with your region (e.g. China or Russia).
• If it is not Russia, select it from the list and confirm the change.

After changing the region, restart the column (turn off power for 10 seconds) and re-search for updates.

If the column is not updated via Mi Home, try resetting it to factory settings: press the Reset button (usually on the back) for 10 seconds until the indicator blinks.

Step-by-step: how to install Marusya on Xiaomi-column

When the speaker is updated and connected to the network, you can start installing the assistant, the process takes no more than 5 minutes, but requires accurate follow-up.

Method 1: Using the Mi Home app (recommended)

1. Open Mi Home and select your column.
2. Go to Settings. → Voice assistant.
3. In the list of available assistants, select Marusya (if not, see the "Problem Solving" section).
4. Click Set and wait for the process to complete (column reboot).
5. After the reboot, say, Hi, Marusya – the assistant needs to respond.

Method 2: Voice command (for power users)

If you don’t have Marousi installed in Mi Home, try activating it with your voice:

1. Say to the column: Hi, XiaoAI (activates Chinese assistant).
2. Then say, Change your assistant to Marusya or Set Marusya.
3. If the column says Marusya is unavailable, go to the "Problem Solutions" section.

After successful installation, check the assistant with standard commands:

• 🎵 Marusya, turn on the music (starts Yandex.Music or VK Music).
• 🌡️ What is the weather like? (for your city).
• 💡 Marusya, turn on the light in the living room (if connected smart lamps Yeelight).

Solving problems: Marusya is not installed or not working

If you encounter an error during the installation phase, use this instruction, and 90% of the time, the problem is solved by one of these methods.

⚠️ Note: If your column is on Chinese firmware (CN-ROM), None of these things work until you change region to Russia or Global, and it requires unlocking the bootloader and firmware through Fastboot, a process described in a separate article.

If after all the manipulations Marusya did not appear, try an alternative method:

1. Install Marusya from Google Play or App Store on your smartphone.
2. Sign in with the same account as you do with Mi Home.
3. In the Marousi app, go to Devices → Add the device.
4. Select your Xiaomi column from the list and confirm the bundle.

This method sometimes works even if there is no installation option in the Mi Home.

Marousi’s subtle settings: hidden features and optimization

Once you have a basic setup, you can customize the assistant to your needs, and most users are unaware of the options.

1. Change in Marousi's voice

By default, the assistant speaks in a female voice, but it can be changed:

1. Open the Marusya app on your phone.
2. Go to Settings. → Voice.
3. Choose one of the available options (for example, male voice or child mode).

2.Setting up a smart home

Marusya can manage Xiaomi devices via Mi Home:

• 💡 Marousia, turn on the lamp in the bedroom (for Yeelight).
• 🌡️ Marusya, show the temperature outside (if the Mi Temperature Sensor is connected).

Marusya supports up to 20 custom scripts, but all devices must be connected to the Mi Home and be in the same Xiaomi ecosystem to work.

Security and privacy: What Marousia knows about you

Like any voice assistant, Marusya records and processes your commands, and by default, all records are stored on the servers of Mail.ru Group, but you can manage this data.

To limit the collection of information:

1. Open the Marusya app on your phone.
2. Go to Settings. → Confidentiality.
3. Turn off the options: 🔍 Personalization of recommendations (so that Marusya does not analyze your preferences). 🎤 Voice command history (will delete all previous recordings). 📍 Access to geolocation (unless you use location-based commands).

It is also recommended to periodically clean the history of teams:

1. In the Marousi app, go to History → Delete everything.
2. Confirm the action (data will be deleted from the servers within 24 hours).
