The voice assistant in Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners is not just a functional element, but part of the daily interaction with the device. 1.Official method: change voice through the Mi Home app
The easiest method is to use the Mi Home app (or DreameHome for Dreame devices), which works for most modern models released after 2021. Importantly, make sure you have the latest version of the app and vacuum cleaner firmware installed before you start.
Step instructions:
- Open the Mi Home app and select your vacuum cleaner from the device list.
- Go to Settings → Voice prompts (in some models, the item may be called Voice Settings or Voiceover).
- In the Voice Type section, select the male variant (usually indicated as "Male" or the icon with the male silhouette).
- Confirm the changes and wait for the synchronization (vacuum cleaner may restart).
If you don’t have this menu item in your app, it means one of three:

If your model is not in the table, check the information on the official website or in the user community (for example, on the 4PDA forum). For older models (released before 2019), voice change is possible only through informal firmware - we will talk about this later.
3. Alternative method: firmware custom voice
For models where official voice change is not available, there is a radical way to replace voice files via firmware, which is suitable for advanced users and requires:

- 🔧 Backup copy of the current firmware.
- 🔧 Voice packets in.wav format or.mp3 (You can find it on Githab or specialized forums).
Step-by-step:
- Download ADB Tools and connect the vacuum cleaner to your computer via USB (developer mode activation may be required).
- Check the connection command: Adb devices should display your device in the list.
- Download the archive with a male voice (for example, this repository will suit Mi Robot 1S).
- Replace files in the folder /system/media/audio/tts/ commands: adb push male_voice/ /system/media/audio/tts/ adb shell chmod 644 /system/media/audio/tts/*
- Reboot the vacuum cleaner: adb shell reboot

4. Change voice through third-party applications (for Chinese firmware)
Owners of Chinese firmware vacuum cleaners (such as the Viomi V2 or Xiaomi STYJ02YM) may find that the global version of the Mi Home does not have a voice change option, in which case the Mi Home China app (Chinese account is required) or alternative clients like Aqara Home will help.
How it works:
- 📱 Install Mi Home China (APK You can download it from APKPure).
- 📱 Register a Chinese account (phone number required) +86 or email).
- 📱 Connect the vacuum cleaner to the application in the region of China (Mainland).
- 📱 In the settings of the device will appear an additional item (Manage voice packets), where you can select a male voice.
Important: Linking to a Chinese server can limit the functionality of other Xiaomi smart devices in your home (for example, Yeelight light bulbs).
5.Switching off the voice completely: if nothing helps
If your model doesn't support voice change, and the firmware seems too risky, the radical option is to completely disable voice prompts.
- Open Mi Home → pick a vacuum cleaner.
- Go to Settings → Voice prompts.
- Turn off the Slider Enable Voice (or Voice Prompts in English version).
Cons of this method:
- ❌ You will not hear error warnings (such as a stuck brush).
- ❌ Some models stop sounding the cleaning status (beginning/end).

If you need a male voice, but it is not in the settings, try installing firmware from another model (for example, for Mi Robot 1S, Viomi V2 firmware will suit. The main thing is the coincidence of the hardware platform (check on the forums before firmware).
6. Frequent errors and their solutions
When changing voices, users often face typical problems, and let's look at the most common ones and how to fix them:
Problem 1: There is no "Voice prompt" item in Mi Home.
- 🔄 Solution: Update the vacuum cleaner firmware through Settings → Update of the PO.
- 🔄 If there are no updates, check the model for compatibility (see table above).
Problem 2: After the firmware, the voice became robotic or distorted.
- 🔄 Solution: Make sure that voice files are in format 16-bit PCM, 16kHz, mono. Reconvert them through Audacity.
- 🔄 Check the file access permissions (should be 644).
Problem 3: The vacuum cleaner stopped talking after the region changed to Mi Home.
- 🔄 Solution: Reset the region back and reconnect the device. If the voice doesn't come back, reset the button. RESET.
