Why Xiaomi Smartphone Is Voiced in Incoming Calls and How to Fix It
Are you tired of the intrusive voice assistant that loudly announces the caller's name or number every time a call comes in?This feature, useful to some users, is often annoying in public places or during important meetings. On Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones running MIUI, voice alerts can activate for several reasons:
First, it could be a standard feature of the MIUI Voice Assistant that automatically triggers incoming calls. Second, the Phone app with the contact voice option enabled may be to blame. Finally, some users accidentally activate this feature through Special Features or third-party call management apps. In this article, we will look at all possible ways to disable, from basic settings to hidden MIUI settings.
Itβs important to understand that the shutdown algorithm may differ depending on the firmware version (e.g. MIUI 12, MIUI 13, or HyperOS) and the smartphone model. If youβre using a pure Android device (e.g., Xiaomi 13T Pro with global firmware), some methods may not work β weβll mention that too.
Method 1: Disabling the voice assistant MIUI
The most common reason for calling is Xiaomi's built-in voice assistant, which can automatically give you a contact name or number without you knowing it, to turn it off:
- Open Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- In the search bar, type in the Voice Assistant (or Mi AI on newer versions).
- Select the app and click Disable (or Remove Updates if the button is active).
- Reboot your smartphone so that the changes take effect.
On some firmware (MIUI 14+), the path may be different: Settings β Additional β Special Features β Voice Assistant. Here you need to deactivate the option to voice incoming calls.

If there is no Voice Assistant in the list of applications, check the System Applications folder or search for settings with the keyword βvoiceβ.
β οΈ Note: On HyperOS devices (e.g. Xiaomi 14 or Redmi Note 13 Pro)+) Voice assistant can be integrated into Xiao AI. Disabling it will lead to the termination of all voice commands, including the management of the smart home.
Method 2: Settings of the Phone application
The Phone app in MIUI has its own voice-over options, which are often ignored, to turn them off:
- Open the standard Phone app (Trainer icon).
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Settings.
- Go to Incoming Calls (or Call Alerts) section.
- Find the options: π Voice alert for a call - turn off the slider. π Call the contact name β deactivate. π Quiet mode for calls β turn on if you want to completely remove the sound.
On some models (POCO F5, Redmi K60) these settings may be hidden behind optional or special features within the Phone application. If there are no options, then the voice control is at the system level (see Method 1).

Method 3: Special features of Android
If previous methods didnβt work, the problem could be in system-specific features. Android has a built-in voice-over function that sometimes conflicts with MIUI:
- Go to Settings. β Special facilities.
- Select Oral Output (or TalkBack if activated).
- Turn off the option to voice notifications or voice incoming calls.
- Return to the main menu Special features and check the section Hearing β here too, voice options can be active.
On Xiaomi with HyperOS, the path might look like this: Settings β Additional β Special Features β Sound settings. Look for items related to Text-to-Speech (TTS) or Voice Output.
β οΈ Warning: Disabling TalkBack or Select to Speak may affect other accessibility features, such as screen reading for visually impaired users.

Method 4: Reset the settings of the Phone application
If the voice calls appeared suddenly and did not turn off through the settings, the problem may be a failure of the configuration of the Phone application.
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the phone (or com.android.dialer in the list of system applications).
- Click Warehouse β Clear the data and Clear the cache.
- Warning: This will delete the call history!
After reset, open the Phone app again and check if the voiceover has gone away. If the problem persists, try updating the app via Google Play (if it supports updates) or reinstall it manually.
What if the reset didn't help?
Method 5: Completely reset (if nothing helps)
If all the previous methods were powerless, the radical solution was to reset to factory settings, which would remove all the data from the device, so first, you'd have to:
- π± Backup your contacts, photos and important files.
- π Remember or write down account passwords (including Mi Accounts).
- π‘ Make sure you have access to Wi-Fi or mobile network to reconfigure.
For discharge:
- Open Settings β About the phone β Reset settings.
- Select Reset all settings (or Delete all data).
- Confirm the action by entering PIN-code.
Once you reboot, the device will go back out of the box. Call voice should disappear, but you'll have to reconfigure the phone. If the problem comes back, it's a sign of hardware failure or firmware damage, and you should contact the service center.

Resetting to factory settings is a last resort. Before you do, be sure to check all the software methods and make sure that the problem is not in the third-party application.
Additional Advice and Frequent Mistakes
When you turn off the voice calls, you often have a problem with the typical voice, and here's what you need to know:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The voice option is not in the settings | Outdated version of MIUI or custom firmware | Update the software through Settings β About the phone β System update |
| Voiceover returns after reboot | Conflict with a number-defining application (for example, Truecaller) | Remove or update third-party calling apps |
| The voice speaks English despite the Russian language of the system | Failure in Text-to-Speech (TTS) settings | Go to Settings β Additional β Language and Input β Voice I/O and select Russian |
| Only unknown numbers are voiced. | The βSpam Alertβ function in the Security app is activated | Open Security β Spam Protection β Settings and Turn Off Notifications |
Another nuance: on some models (Redmi Note 10 Pro, POCO X3 Pro), voice calls can be tied to Driving Mode. Check its settings in Settings β Connected Devices β Driving Mode.
If you use Xiaomi with global firmware (for example, Mi 11 Lite for the European market), some of the features of MIUI can be simplified or ported, in which case we recommend installing Xiaomi.eu or another custom firmware with a full set of settings.
