Spam calls have become a modern scourge: scammers, intrusive marketers and robot auto callers are poisoning the lives of smartphone owners. Xiaomi offers several built-in tools to combat this problem, but many users do not even know they exist. In this article, we will analyze all the available ways to block unwanted calls, from standard MIUI functions to hidden settings and third-party applications.
Xiaomi smartphones are built on a MIUI shell that is regularly updated, which means that the interface and location of some menu items may vary depending on the firmware version, and we have taken this into account and prepared universal instructions that will be suitable for most models, from the budget Redmi to the flagship Xiaomi 14.
Before you start settings, make sure your device has the latest version of MIUI installed. Updates often include security improvements, including more efficient spam filtering algorithms. Check firmware relevance at Settings โ About Phone โ System Update.

1. Built-in spam blocking in MIUI: basic settings
The easiest way to start fighting spam is to use the built-in MIUI tools. Xiaomi developers have integrated several layers of protection into the phone book, which work on the basis of a database of known spammers and machine learning algorithms.
To activate the basic protection:
- Open the Phone app (the tube icon on the home screen).
- Slip on the three dots in the upper right corner and select Settings.
- Go to Block and Filter (in some versions of MIUI it may be called Spam Protection).
- Activate the switches: ๐ Spam Definition โ Automatically Marking Suspicious Numbers ๐ซ Spam Blocking โ Complete Cutting Off Calls from Labeled Numbers ๐ Filtering Unknowns โ blocking calls from hidden numbers
Once these features are activated, all incoming calls will be checked against Xiaomiโs database, with suspicious numbers either blocked automatically or marked with a red exclamation mark in the call log. Please note: the spammer database is updated automatically, but may sometimes lag behind new scammer schemes.
๐ก
If you miss an important call after activating the lock, check the spam folder in the call log, sometimes numbers from other countries or corporate lines get there.
โ ๏ธ Note: In some regions (e.g. the EU), automatic locking may be limited due to local data protection laws. If options are not available, try the methods in the following sections.
โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ
2 Manual number locking: how to add to the blacklist
If automatic filters fail, you can manually blacklist numbers, which is useful for blocking specific scammers who bypass standard protections, taking less than a minute to complete:
Method 1: Through a call log
- Open the Phone app and go to the Journal tab.
- Find the number you want to block and tap it.
- In the window that opens, click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select Lock the number.
- Confirm the action in the dialog window.
Method 2: Through lock settings
- Go to Phone Settings โ Applications โ Phone โ Lock numbers.
- Click Add to the blacklist.
- Enter the number manually or select from contacts/login.
All blocked numbers will be redirected to voice mail (if configured) or simply reset without notice. You can view and edit the blacklist at any time in the same settings section.
Make sure the number does not belong to an important contact | Check if it is an auto dial error (e.g. from a bank) | Keep the number in notes in case of future unlock | Check if the operator is blocking this number at its level-->

3.Use of the service "Spam Protection" from Xiaomi
Xiaomi is partnering with global spammer databases to provide users with up-to-date protection, and new versions of MIUI have a separate section called Spam Protection, which is powered by cloud-based technologies.
To activate this service:
- Open Settings โ Memory and applications โ Protection against spam.
- Turn on the Spam Call Protection switch.
- Set up the filtering level: ๐ก๏ธ Basic โ only blocks confirmed spammers ๐ Medium โ Adds filtering to suspicious numbers ๐จ Aggressive โ Maximum protection (risk of false positives)
Update the database automatically
Important: Spam Protection requires an internet connection to work, and without an active connection, filtering will only be done on a local database, which is updated less frequently.
The advantage of this method is that the spammer database is updated in real time, if a number starts to call Xiaomi users in droves, it will be blocked for all subscribers within a few hours, but the service has a disadvantage: it may not recognize local scammers who operate only in your region.

4. Third-party applications to block spam
If the built-in MIUI tools don't work, you can install specialized applications that offer advanced features like:
- ๐ Global spammer databases with millions of records
- ๐ Statistics and analytics of incoming challenges
- ๐ค Automatic identification of robot-auto-telephones
- ๐ Synchronize the blacklist between devices
Top.-3 applications:
- Truecaller is the most popular solution with a database of more than 300 million numbers, and the free version shows ads, but the basic features are available without restrictions.
- Hiya is a lightweight app from the creators of Whitepages, which recognizes scammers well and offers reverse search by numbers.
- Who called? โ a Russian app with a focus on local spammers, supports offline databases.
Before installing, check the permissions the app requests. Real anti-spam services require access to call logs and contacts, but should not ask for permission to send SMS or access geolocation. If the application requests suspicious permissions, this is a reason to be alert.
โ ๏ธ Note: Some anti-spam apps may conflict with built-in protection MIUI. If after installation, the standard lock functions have stopped working - disable duplicate options in the phone settings.

5. Hidden MIUI settings: Advanced protection
MIUI has a few hidden features that are not obvious at first glance, but significantly enhance spam protection, settings that are usually designed for power users and may require additional manipulation.
Method 1: Blocking by prefix of the number
If you are flooded with calls from certain codes (for example, +375 for Belarus or +79xx for Russian scammers), you can block whole ranges:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Phone โ Lock numbers.
- Tap on Add manually.
- Enter the number mask using the * character (e.g. +7926*** to lock all numbers with this prefix).
Method 2: Set up rules for unknown numbers
MIUI 14 has the ability to create rules for handling calls from unknown numbers.
Settings โ Phone โ Call settings โ Rules for unknown numbers
Choose one of the following:
- Redirect to voicemail.
- Reject the call without notice
- Show notification, but don't call.Method 3: Use of Do Not Disturb Mode for Spamers
You can set the automatic activation of the Do Not Disturb mode for all incoming calls, except contacts from the address book:
- Open Settings โ Notifications and Status bar โ Do not disturb.
- Select Calls and set the Contacts Only rule.
- Activate the Automatic Rules option and set up a schedule (for example, around the clock).
๐ก
Hidden settings allow you to block not only individual numbers, but also entire ranges, which is especially useful against mass spam attacks from other countries.
โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ
6. Spam blocking at the operator level
Many mobile operators offer their own spam protection services, which are network-based and can block calls before they reach your phone.
How to connect protection to popular operators:
- ๐ก MTS: send SMS with the text of the PROTECTION to the number 111 or activate the option in your personal account.
- ๐ก Beeline: connect the service "Antispam" through USSD-team *110*355# or in the app "My Beeline".
- ๐ก MegaFon: activate "Spam Protection" in the "Services" section of your personal account.
- ๐ก Tele2: send SMS with the text STOP SPAM to number 1551.
The advantage of operator locking is that it doesn't depend on the model of the phone, and it works even on older devices.
- โ Spammer database updates slower than in specialized applications
- โ Some operators charge for this service (usually) 1-3 ruble-a-day)
- โ It can block international challenges, including legitimate ones.
If you travel frequently or use several SIM-Combine operator protection with built-in tools MIUI maximum efficiency.
โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ
7. Additional measures: how to reduce the amount of spam
In addition to technical blocking methods, preventive measures can be taken to reduce the flow of unwanted calls:
- ๐ Do not publish a number in the public domain โ avoid specifying the phone on forums, social networks and sites with questionable reputations.
- ๐ Use the second number โ use a virtual number to register on websites and services (for example, through Google Voice or TextNow).
- ๐ก๏ธ Sign up for the register "Do not call" - in some countries (for example, in the United States and Russia) there are public registers where you can add your number to protect against telemarketing.
- ๐ Regularly update contacts โ remove old numbers from your address book to avoid data leaks.
If spam calls are targeted (for example, you are being targeted by a specific person), consider changing numbers. Most operators provide this service for free or for a nominal fee.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Scammers often use spoofing when the call is allegedly from a contact or bank support that you know. Never give personal information over the phone, even if the number seems familiar.
